ParticipantA great movie! I’m Scot-Irish: kind of knew going in that I would come out loving it. Both mother and daughter are intelligent and strong and the movie appealed to a ‘girl’ audience without doing a romantic story! Being a newish adult, I really loved that – knowing it didn’t happen often during my childhood! I’d say a must see for fans of fairytales and folklore. Special note: had to hug my mom afterwards.

ParticipantI’m going to add to the above that they are both particularly controlling towards their offspring and set with the expectations they have for them: to ‘excel’ in life, anyway possible.

I want him to stay dead, too. I don’t get the argument that he is Emma’s true love. That wasn’t True Love’s Kiss they had. It was just Graham already waking up from the curse and Emma’s magic speeding it along.
I’m with you that Graham isn’t Emma’s true love. The kisses did nothing for her and now we know that if he had been, everyone would have gotten their memories back. I guess the Graham part depends on the rules surrounding true love that we don’t know yet. I prefer what you said, that Emma’s magic recovered his memory, but if true love doesn’t necessarily mean returned love, maybe it was true love for Graham. *Shrugs*
Anyone have any thoughts on the two new girls? Magnolia sounds like a mesh of Mulan and Pocahontas to me. Kind of hoping she’s from the realm behind the dragon door!lilred
Participant….I never said you didn’t want him gone for good.

ParticipantThe hot Irishman has a lot of fans though, who might not care how his return effects the plot. I kind of thought there would be an onslaught of them when I posted something against Graham, luckily so far just people who get it.

ParticipantI wonder if Rumple knows his name? Snow has only ever called him James or Charming, even right before the curse. The fact that she feels entitled to take both kingdoms makes me feel that she isn’t aware of the Shepherd’s story. If Rumple is the only person in FL with Charming’s name and true backstory, that is a lot of power to hold against a ‘prince’. Maybe another reason Snow gave Rumple Emma’s name, not Charming who could of know the dangers of Rumble knowing your name firsthand.

ParticipantMaybe, since he was such a big help in FINDING each other (over and over again) they thought he would help them take back the kingdom and he didn’t or appeared to be helping King George/Regina. If next season is going to have Snow and Charming ‘taking back the kingdom(s), then we now have a time slot where Rumple could be up to anything and working in a number of other fairytales.
But the most possible idea would come back to The Price of Gold. Since Snow was absent in the imprisonment of Rumple, and the curse was enacted two months or so after Rumple is imprisoned, she might have been seven months pregnant at the time. Knowing Rumple traded for his twin, was waiting for Cinderella’s baby, he had to realize Rumple could have plans for his baby as well. Hence, very protective father/husband in the first episode from the almost sympathetic towards Rumple in the last episode.lilred
ParticipantFor some reason I keep coming back to his story being the ‘Little Mermaid’….merman. He was a merman, fell in love with a human (princess?), and then made a deal with Regina to become a human for X amount of time. In the end, it went closer to the Hans Christian Anderson route: girl fell in love with someone else, not a bad person in disguise just someone else turned out to be her love. In the end, he returned to Regina brokenhearted, having to pay his end of the deal: being turned into a Whale (Monstro?) to serve her at her every whim. I am aware that Regina mentioned a ‘mermaid’ in skin deep. And that both producers and creators have acknowledged wanting to work the ‘Little Mermaid’ storyline in, noting specifically Ariel and liking her character – making a gender swap really unlikely.
I’ve always felt that the relationship Whale has with Regina is to begrudgingly serve her in Storybrooke, probably because of a deal he made in FL. Maybe it’s time for me to go back to the drawing board and think of characters that made deals with witches…At least he dealt with Regina and not Rumple, so there has to be some type of loophole in the contract.lilred
