But I am wondering why Neal would run from Emma. It could be out of shame, but seeing as how he waited for 11 years to see her again, running would be the last thing he would do. The only reason why would be that he is afraid of seeing his father.
Can’t figure that out either. I think the shame/guilt is why he’s remained in NY – probably doesn’t feel he deserves to be reunited with Emma and have some happiness…hoping that the running isn’t just seeing Emma enter the bar, that they at least have some banter before Emma test’s the water by calling him ‘Baelfire’ and then he bolts! 😀
Interesting to see Emma take Henry on a road trip/tracking mission. Guess they couldn’t bare to be parted for possibly extended adventures so soon. If this is the big reveal of Neal also being Bae – I can’t see them having Neal or Henry learn the truth of their connection – yet. Wouldn’t be the first time I’d be shocked, but I guess I expect the writers to pull on my heart strings/drive me crazy for awhile and just have little interactions/coy comments the wreck my life between Neal and Henry. Like, if Neal is freaking out about seeing papa again, can kind of see Henry giving him a pep-talk about how he wishes he could talk to his father….but he died saving a family from a fire….
Then again, Neal isn’t an idiot. I can’t see him remaining in the dark about Henry for long. Henry is almost 11, Emma gave birth to him in jail – all pretty well known facts in Storybrooke if they don’t come up on the journey to Maine.

ParticipantI’m so happy and excited right now – my emotions will be in overdrive any second.
I remember thinking last spring 'what if Baelfire was Henry's dad?'—-then learned it was a popular theory – then became obsessed with it – and then fell in love with Neal be him Bae or not…and it really looks like he is to me. Assuming this isn't some intense misdirection, Rumple's deal did seem to be finding Baelfire (based on promo and probably wishful thinking on fans parts) and now she's in New York tracking Neal. Although I'm sure a lot of things could happen in the next few episodes that could explain this, I've assumed she couldn't pick up a trail for Neal Cassidy and had been trying to for a couple of years after Portland…so it feels weird that now she's meeting with him – and I don't see what her motivation-plotwise would be besides fulfilling a deal.
Their first meeting in 11 years and they're a'll smiles? Don't think I've read anyone guessing that – or any fanfic meetings where they just have casual drinks and laughs after everything went down. Who else thinks Emma working an angle? Bailbonds woman that she was. I'm guessing Neal is going to be lulled into a false state of security and end up drugged, spread out in the back of the bug, and hours outside of Storybrooke by the end of this meeting! 😆

ParticipantReally like this theory, too! I think it could work, especially if they haven’t been aware of the curse or Emma being the Savior for the full 28 years. Maybe gathering these people up and informing them about the curse was what Neal’s been up to. He is Henry’s father, wouldn’t put it past him to be the head of a top secret operation. 😀
Depending on what August actually told him, Neal could be aware of the ‘final battle beginning’ once Emma broke the curse. So the group could be rooted in preparing and fighting this battle for happy endings and really believe the only person to figure out the curse could have been Emma alone…

ParticipantThe thing is, for me, he isn’t what made her the way she is – not completely. The Emma Swan we see stealing the bug is just as shut off and guarded. I was actually bothered by this when the sneak peek came out – she already had her defenses up. And then Neal happened and we actually have a normal, giggly (seriously, just re-watched Tallahassee a few days ago and couldn’t get over Emma giggling.. 😆 ) young person in love..
There’s still years of Emma’s life unaccounted for and I’m thinking the first 17 years of isolation made her learn how to shut off to stay safe. With Emma, they seem to have filled in puzzle pieces so far this season – since family and allowing other’s to protect her has been missing – now she’s learned that she deserves to be protected, put first, and have a loving family: HUGE STEP FOR EMMA SWAN. The creators have been honest that romance will be tied to Emma’s story this season so that does seem like the next hurdle…
I don’t think she’ll be actively pressing for a relationship with Neal right away. Based in the Neal/Bae theory – I think he’ll have to work out some baggage first: being a father and working through his own daddy issues. When this is resolved on some level – he and Emma could both be ready for romance again…
Kind of want them to be redevelop slowly, subtlety into a functioning adult relationship.
But we know these creators love to shock! If the curse can be broken by the end of the first season, Emma and Neal may start back up before anyone could imagine.

ParticipantYou’re right about the very different personality types, Faux Pax. I feel the same way about Neal being Peter too. I do see the clues and now think it’s a big possibility that Neal will be Peter Pan…but he doesn’t act the way I’d think an adult Peter Pan would act – especially based on how Neal wanted to settle down and live a normal life and I see an adult Peter dreading the idea of ‘settled’ and would rather be running off in adventure after adventure..
I really love the idea of Hook also being a grown up Peter Pan. Have ever since I saw this gif series about Cora confronting him being Peter, asking when he’d lost all his ‘happy thoughts.’ I think this possibility could be an epic spin!
I do feel the Neal and Bae personalities could match up very nicely… 😀

ParticipantI’m hoping you’re right, Priceofmagic!
Have you seen this tweet from Jane Espenson yet?

Had me thinking about ruby slippers too. But someone’s said OZ won’t appear until next season (haven’t read anything about this myself though…) and it feels like that will be a long time to get to Neal’s backstory – assuming it’s related back to the object in the box…
But if he’s multiple characters, leaving a connection between Neal and OZ to be handled next season could work very well.

Participant@Phee – it sadly isn’t awkward phrasing or a case of sarcasm not working right over the internet. Checked out this person’s page and they have several tweets about Neal that are just …irate! Lot of profanity so I won’t be posting screen shots but apparently they feel the show has been a failure ever since Tallahassee and the Neal storyline was introduced.
Here’s the page if anyone doesn’t mind a few choice words: https://twitter.com/bdaymouse
In the spirit of fairness, this person did try to justify their actions when other fans called them out for sending hate to MRJ (examples being they have the right to their opinion – very true, they apparently weren’t aware that when you retweet someone they get the tweet in their own feed and can read it… 🙄 – barely ever active on twitter and I know this, she hates his character Neal not him as an actor.., they’ve never and will never send out hate to an actor or writer….) apparently this person is a SwanQueen fan that tweeted something to the writers/creators about the horrible way they are dealing with adoption on the show at some point and seems to dread the idea of Neal wanting to be in Henry’s life upon his return. This is me generalizing what I’ve read though, definitely not going to contact this person to ask – they seem way too angry to try and have dialogue with for me! And I’m way too protective at this point. 😉
I guess I just need to realize that actors probably get this all the time – are used to dealing with bad ‘press’ and public opinion at times. He at least doesn’t seem opposed to laughing it off! Which is great! As people have said before on this thread, he is really a nice, funny guy with his fans – and I would hate if he had to become more guarded because of some members of the fandom disliking that his character may want some contact with the child he never knew about, carried by the girl he was/is? VERY MUCH in love with, in a situation that he’s really only tried to be noble and do what was right for said girl….yeah, I’m definitely overly protective of Neal’s character at this point… 😆

ParticipantI guess the best way to counter all this hate is just love MRJ/Neal all the more! 😀 And anyone with a twitter to drop him a line about what a great job he’s doing and how excited we are to have him back!
From what I’ve seen of this growing Neal hate, it seems to be coming from people who feel his return somehow threatens their ships – which the swan thief shipper in me is kind of proud of. It says something about the chemistry and backstory Emma/Neal share if the fact he has a new script is sending haters into a frenzy. 😆
Good news to add about his return, he’ll be back in episode 14 or 15.

ParticipantYeah, I’ve start checking the active posts – seeing thread after thread about Hook – and just leaving the forums. There’s so much more I’m interested in for this show but Hook seems to have grabbed the interest of the more active posters recently. Since shipping wars have started on other sites, I guess I should be happy everyone seems to just be loving what they love and not attacking other’s preferences right now.
Nice to know other people have noticed the sea of Hook posts – It’s almost hard to find other threads at this point.

ParticipantI really don’t understand some people! 👿
This fandom is really going down hill recently and being rude to great actors!
