She was lying. He wasn’t a firefighter. But many people think that there may have been a reason the writers had Emma pick that career for whoever the father is. Along with her bail bonds job. I agree with Faux Pax – not the strongest hint in the world.

There really are quite a lot of parallels between Baelfire and Emma, even if they don’t know each other yet. That being said, I could see Baelfire having a ‘troubled’ past as well. If he and Emma did have some type of relationship, if she was present during some intense nightmares – I could see that freaking her out. And, if she overheard parts of his nightmares, she could think the guy was crazy and violent. Who could blame her from getting out of that situation or lying to her son so he doesn’t go searching for a crazy guy?

In the end, I think a Baelfire/Emma relationship had two already damaged people who were not emotionally stable enough to be in any relationship in the first place. So – young adults + abandonment issues + damaged + sex don’t mix. I’m even going to skip a few levels and even throw ‘true love’ into the mix. If they are each others ‘true loves’, the intensity of those feelings surfacing could have made both of them run the other direction.

Part of me still thinks he might be a criminal, but more of a con artist/ scammer. He was dressed pretty nicely in that three-piece suit. Add in that his apartment is so ‘normal’, It doesn’t match up to me. For the argument that he seemed like a normal guy and not a bad boy – yes, but we don’t know what he’s capable of yet. He was at his apartment – at home, I’m sure criminals are like all the rest of us. And on the streets, I’m sure he’s learned how to not draw attention to himself. I will agree that he’s probably not a violent gang-banger…

Really like the idea. So many people on this forum have given such good evidence for Whale being Frankenstein that I’m convinced. But even watching the episode thinking he’s Dr. Frankenstein, missed the connection of Dr. Whale leading the mob!

    So, case closed?

The glimpse of this guy’s life does give off that ‘loner’ vibe. His reaction to the opened window, the dropped iPod – he seems pretty resigned that things aren’t going to work out.

Really do think this guy is Baelfire. Looking at the setup in the first episode, I think we can all agree that larger mysteries are going to be center stage this season. Baelfire’s identity may not be a BIG reveal – but his knowledge of Storybrooke/ possible link to whoever sent the post card add enough questions that I for one wouldn’t be disappointed that Bae’s just THERE – living in an average apartment in New York.

The only other option I kind of like would be this character being the Wizard of Oz – but I don’t see why he would get an opening, especially since Neverland is probably going to be highlighted this season. Why bring Oz into the equation yet? Shouldn’t they be stocking up on other lands for later seasons?

Interesting find on the tartan, AntBee. You might want to check out Henry’s bedroom at some point. I’d take a picture if my mac wasn’t acting up, but Henry’s bed does have a tartan blanket that looks pretty similar to Mystery Man’s bedding. I have both screens held up to each other right now (paused at the end of the Stranger, 1:12 left in the episode according to Netflix), and the colors are the same: light blue, red, and golden. Bae’s….mystery man’s bedding might be larger squares – but the colors are spot on. 😀

Thanks for that link, slurpeez. I had just started making my own list this morning and that filled in a lot of things I had questions about.

It didn’t cover the one area I’m most interested in, and I can’t find it anywhere. The poster of the red fist, what appears to be a tudor rose on the wrist, surrounded by a wreath.

    Still searching for that online.

There is a landscape poster over his bed – can’t read the script across the poster but there are mountains and desert visible. Honestly, reminds me of a picture I took in New Mexico awhile back.

A detail that really stood out after my repeated ‘pause-fest’ this morning was the different light sources in the room. Two standing lights – opposite of each other in the room. I’m pretty certain that on top of the first bookshelf, around the clocks, are two candle holders. On the other side of the room, on a hanging shelf, there is another. All three of black.

He had three *journals* stacked on his desk, all the same. With the dream catcher in the same shot, just behind, it seems to me he may keep dream journals. From what I remember from past psych classes, this is a way of dealing with incredibly traumatic events.

Why would Bae know about any of this? Henry’s dad wasn’t told about his kid – and, if it is Bae, he would have no reason to think Emma was from his world. I agree, it would be hard to like the character if he was aware of any of this nonsense going on in Storbrooke/Curse. I do think he’ll recognize magic again when he feels it and feel a ‘pull’ to Maine.

Okay, so I was in exams the last few days (when there was an onslaught of spoilers – still catching up), but where is Coney Island coming from? I’ve seen it mentioned a couple of places now and I’m very lost.

Sounds pretty cool, though. Traveling from New York to Maine would explain MJR absence for a couple for episodes. I think someone (possibly AntBee) brought up an idea of the Giant being some type of pro-wrestler – maybe Baelfire worked for some carnivals????

I can get why you find it weird that Henry and Baelfire/orhisdad are bonding while Emma is lost somewhere, hjbau. But, on top of what Faux Pax said, the show does seem to make parental bonds pretty important, instantaneous, etc. I’m thinking mainly about Snow and Emma here. I know a male adult and child aren’t going to be exact replicas of two grown females, but I do see them interacting and getting along to start. Maybe Baelfire starts talking to Henry trying to gain intel. about his dad and things pick up from there.

It will be interesting to see how Charming handles this guy. If he keeps talking and interacting with Henry, I can see Charming distrusting him – before he even learns about the guys history with his daughter.

    @AntBee
    – The reviews of the 1st episode do state we’ll have a surprise opening scene, with a character we’d never expect…I’m thinking Bae is going about his business in our world when he feels the burst of magic envelope the land. Since in my idea of canon reality, he’s linked to both Henry and Emma – he feels the pull very intensely!

So….someone tell me this isn’t real – please!

Maleficent is possibly Regina’s sister! Where did that come from???

I’m giddy right now! This is just so exciting! Never was one for chess, so I didn’t get that Rumple had ‘captured the queen’ – that is so cool! 😀

Belle reading at the family BBQ made me smile. Though I love Red walking a wolf past the Diner, it’s fun to see Emma and Henry adapt to the FT world – Henry with a bow and arrow looks awesome!

And since I’m far too emotional invested in Baelfire being Henry’s dad – I find myself wondering what he’d be doing at this BBQ scene?

Agreed! Not only are there bigger things to worry about, but Charming’s life as David didn’t have the best moments either. I honestly didn’t even think about how the one night stand would factor in now that they remember everything – but not sure I like the spoiler image of Charming punching Whale in a few episodes. Generally, fans seem to think it is because Charming learned about it. Given this review: they seem to be using Whale/Snow sex to create some drama and it probably is related back to Charming finding out about the one night stand. If Charming does overreact, I hope they somehow can convey his actions are rooted back to his own guilt from his David life and how he treated Snow: giving her the wrong valentine, lying, doubting, etc. Then again, if Whale decides to make a joke about having sex with Snow to Charming…I don’t think I’d be against Charming punching him. But – Is Whale really that stupid? 😀
