Wow, I haven’t been to the forums for a while either, glad to see there is some bit of life back in the Captain Swan thread! 🙂
This first half of the season was pretty amazing, not only as CS shipper, but I found it to have some pretty strong writing/stories in general. Even the new characters seemed to be far better integrated and made for some really interesting b-stories while still keeping focus on our core group (seems like they learned a bit from last season). I’m going to hold out hope that we get some more resolution to those Merida/Camelot story lines in the back half, because they seemed to setup some really interesting ideas that are now just lingering out there unresolved (I really want the Lady of the Lake to come back into play at some point, because seriously, what happened to Lancelot?!). And while yes, the seeming retcon or revisionist history some of the episodes had were quite frustrating, I found them easier to forgive as the rest of the story was so entertaining and engaging. Some nice twists/reveals for which I’m really looking forward to a rewatch of this first half to see how it all fit into place.
And lastly, just looking back on some of the older posts from this season, definitely agree with the following quote.
This thread is a little dead, but it seems people have been scared off the forum, which is a shame. I LOVED Hook’s reaction to Henry’s crush. Absolutely perfect. It made me giggle so much. Then more pain when you see how happy Emma and Hook are and compare to what happened last week. Does Emma remember all the horse riding and flowers and declarations of not giving up on them? (I assume so) And she gets a cold Hook dealing with a Dark One last week. Poor Emma, I just want to give her a hug. Bits of the ep I wasn’t too keen about, but I did like the idea that Camelot is an illusion. It still is a broken kingdom. I had a thought the other day while watching bits of the S4A arc final. Eddy/Adam (not sure which one) had mentioned S5B arc would be “hell”. In the S4A final Hook tells Gold something about the Dark One not being so fortunate in the next life. Rumple answers that Hook will have a long wait among the fire and brimstone (for that next life). The Dark One is in its ‘next life’, please don’t tell me Hook is going to hell. Hopefully I’ve just joined dots that aren’t there.
I also love that reference, I totally forgot about that exchange between Hook and Rumple! With all this going to the underworld and Rumple taking back his DO mantle, I really do wonder if this is the final season. I know it’s been speculated before, but now that Emma has seemingly come to the end of her journey (accepting being a mother, daughter, magic wielder/savior, finding TL and now going through hell to get him back) and sort of facing off against Gold/Rumpelstiltskin again ala S1, I wonder if this is that ultimate battle between good and evil, light and dark, ending with the “big bad” of the series finally being defeated? Either way, it’s going to be a fun ride with so many of our favorite baddies coming back to play for the second half!

I got over all the crap on these forums, but I do miss the fun conversations & good people that used to frequent this wonderful thread. I’ll just pop my 2 cents in for what they are worth
There’s been some talk about how CS can’t be True Love now since the kiss didn’t break the Dark One curse
I actually went back & rewatched the failed RumpleBelle TKL, because Emma “feeling woozy” & not being entirely steady on her feet after her TLK attempt was niggling at my brain …. turns out neither was Rumple when the TLK started to work on him when Belle tried it. We couldn’t see if Emma’s TLK attempt had an effect or not because Emma isn’t all scaly or sparkly. For all we know it had actually started to work, but when Killian pulled away & asked if she was OK, Emma didn’t kiss him again to finish removing it because her desire for the power kicked in again- which would mean the dark one curse would quickly over take her again, just like it did with Rumple. It makes sense that by the time we are SB & Killian tried to TLK Emma that it doesnt work- as just like Rumple- Emma’s addiction to the power is stronger for her love of Killian…. otherwise TLK would have broken Rumple’s DO curse one of the many, many times we’ve seen Rumple & Belle kiss already.
It feels like the writers have tried to fast track CS into true love status without giving it proper set up.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- totally disagree with this statement- good lord! CS is the slowest moving ship on Once: Snowing ~ married, established TL status, has 2 kids & a grandchild. Rumbelle ~ married, establised TL status. OutlawQueen ~ established Soul-mates, are dating & having sex (don’t know their living arrangements yet) CaptainSwan ~ dating & kissing ….. They are taking their time to SHOW us a new fairy tale romance. To call or even suggest CS is “fast-moving” is laughable. They have known each other for a good 2yrs now- Killian has known Emma for 3 (since he didn’t forget a year), so the fact they are still only at first base means they are taking it slow by anyone’s standards.
Throughout season 2, Hook’s behaviour has been very self-centred, so long as he was alright he didn’t give a crap about anyone else.
Given he was supposed to be a villain he wasn’t exactly meant to be the poster child for virtuousness now was he :p
In Neverland he and Neal were in a tug of war over Emma, even though Emma told them to pack it in, yet Hook just kept pushing and not in the good way. (Admittedly during the early part of the Neverland arc, I kept going back and forth between Hook and Neal over who would be the better man for Emma).
Actually she didn’t tell them to pack it in until the end & both pretty much did after that. Emma was flirting with Hook & Hook genuinely wanted to get to know Emma- hardly a crime. The problem with Neal is Emma didn’t want to be around him… again, she loved him, but being around him hurt her too deeply, that isn’t Hook’s fault.
In 3B Emma wasn’t interested romantically yet Hook kept pushing then suddenly at the end Emma is suddenly kissing him.
That’s not correct- Emma was inviting him in, she acted flirty a couple of times with him, she asked him to watch Henry & they bantered. They developed their friendship even further. Killian was more concerned with Emma wanting to run away from SB, her family & him. It’s not like Emma told him to back off- she chose to give up her magic to save him etc. Again not a crime.
CS doesn’t feel like it should be romantic quite yet, it seems like the getting to know each other phase has been missed out
This opinion has been entirely disproven on the show as well- from S2 through to S4 we’ve seen Emma & Killian learning about each other & often simply “knowing” how the other feels/thinks/needs/ having S1 Snowing level intuition about the other (most of your problems seem to be a misinterpretation of 3B Hook- he knew Emma was hiding from her feelings about everything- home, family, friendships & yes him- she could have straight up told him “I’m not interested” but she didn’t, because she was, she just could come out & admit it to herself as she was scared of it, them & him being taken away if she did- like Snowing, Emma & Killy tend to know when the other is lying, hiding things or what the other is feeling )- we’ve seen them seek each other out for comfort & advice- Emma likes to go to the docks to think these days (Hook’s haunt) & Killian’s often seen in Granny’s thinking (Emma’s haunt). We’ve seen them go on their 1st date, just hanging out together, having lunch, coffee or drinks together or even just dropping lunch off for the other etc. We’ve actually seen more of them just being “friends” (1 & bit seasons), than we have them being more than friends ( 3/4 of a single season). They are actually slower then Snowing or Rumbelle when it comes to “showing” them getting to know each other- we’ve had 3 seasons of it now & have only been together for less than 1 of those 3!
Hook’s just been chasing Emma until she’s given in
If thats the case- Charming chased Snow until she gave in- Rumple chased Milah until she caved in- Rumple entrapped Belle until she gave in- Neal took advantage of Emma until she gave in- Robin chased Regina until she gave in *rolls eyes* I must admit I loved that Killian walked away from Dark Swans advances as well (at least in that instance), it shows how much he values, respects & loves Emma that he wouldn’t take advantage of her despite how willing she is, while feeling she is not in her right mind & could regret it later. I also felt very sorry for Emma being lonely & on the outside looking again- it’s like she’s regressed back to S1E01 Emma- all alone & unable to bring herself to genuinely let people in again
The biggest kick in the guts for me was seeing both of the tables in her house only having 2 chairs each- I seriously hope the DO curse gets broken by midseason- but I have a feeling they’ll draw it out until the season finale :/Yay that this thread is back up and chatting! And yes, totally agreed with everything in that quote (also love that idea that perhaps Emma was feeling a bit woozy because the kiss WAS having an impact).
Also, totally agree with the following, as my husband and I thought the exact same thing when we watched the first time. Figured she was just trying to make DO/Imaginary Rumple go away, didn’t realize it was also her attempt at a TLK. (we can be a little slow at times….)
Not really anything else can be done when one is misinterpreting what the story has clearly shown to be true- for instance I saw on another site yesterday a small group of people that can’t seem to get over the fact that Belle & Hook are friends now, so simply refuse to see the friendship & are all shocked at why they are talking to each other, despite the fact that that the show has clearly shown their friendship to be cannon since S4 at the very least.
Oh on that (and yes I know this thread isn’t a Hook/Belle thread but) I read people are thinking Hook and Belle are going to get together! No no no. How do people even think that??? Hook had just said he’s going to spend at least a century trying to save the woman he loves. He is definitely not one to get over his loves very easily.

That’s a good point. The first time I watched it I didn’t realise it was supposed to be TLK, I just thought it was a way to get rid of the darkness talking to her, since hugging Killian worked the day before. But yes, why else would she kiss him if not to rid her of the darkness totally. And you’re right, I think it did start to work. Maybe if Killian hadn’t broken it off so soon, Emma may have had a chance to really get into it and let the light take over, she wanted more when he pulled back.
I’ve read quite a few really good/cool theories for where this story arc may be going, or what these early eps may be setting up, and while I’m trying (really hard) not to get my fragile shipper hopes up too high for that CS TLK the shippers have all been waiting for, I’m hoping that if they’ve made two failed attempts in only the second episode of the season (which I suppose was also a call-back to Hook’s failed attempt in S3, as well as adding to that “rule of three” for not only the season but an ultimate 3rd try for Hook in the near future…?), that we’re actually getting that final confirmation that they are in fact TL (cue Timeless in the background). Regardless though, the hubby and I have been super intrigued by how this season is starting off, and are very excited to see how this story will play out!

1) Where did Emma go?
I agree with most others in that she will probably be with Merlin, whether that’s in Camelot, the Enchanted Forest, or otherwise I’m not quite sure. I imagine for the first episode we will get Merlin’s intro and some of his backstory tying things in with what’s currently going on in Storybrooke, and at the very end of the episode we’ll get the present day Merlin with the new Dark One at his side.
2) What is Merlin’s backstory?I could see the Once twist being that Merlin is a woman. Perhaps the darkness was a former partner/teacher/lover(?) that turned dark, became an entity onto itself, and in order to protect everyone from the darkness Merlin tethered it to the dagger and perhaps banished them to another land (Enchanted Forest).
3) Will we see Arthur/Guienvere/Lancelot?
I’m hoping so! I think with so much uncertainty over Lancelot’s death there is a strong possibility we’ll be seeing him again. Arthur being a lead character in the Merlin/Camelot story I would certainly hope we’d see him, and Guienvere would be fun, though I’d be curious as to what they’d do with her character, hopefully one of those good, Oncey twists.
4) Who was the original Dark One?
If not some already established person connected to Merlin in some way, I could see it being more of an entity that had to be harnessed, giving it personification. Who was that first person it was attached to? Perhaps an earlier apprentice? Or did Merlin somehow inadvertently attach it to someone close to them, effectively destroying that relationship and setting both indivisuals on a dark path (that is if Merlin is the actual big bad of the season)?
5) Who will have control of Emma’s dagger?
For many reasons I could see it being Hook, but it could also just be in the Charming Family loft since so many tend to gather there anyway. I agree though that having a more powerful magic wielder guarding it would make more sense, so I can also see the arguments for Regina. I could also see the combo of Regina doing some protection spell on the loft where it’s being held.
6) Will we see Zelena again? Will we see August again? Will we see Ursula again?
Zelena for sure with the whole preggers issue, but I really hope we see August more. I love his character, and was a little disappointed he wasn’t more involved with the last arc given his return, but I think they kept him an adult in order for him to be more useful with future stories. Would be fun to see Ursula too – Not ruling anything out, but if they are focussed on the sorcerer and camelot, I don’t know if they’d have much room for her character, unless perhaps she is able to help transport the gang from Storybrooke to wherever Emma is? They kept her on good terms with the group (especially with Hook) in the end for a reason, would be great if we could see more of that resulting relationship.
7) Will we other lands besides the EF and (maybe) Camelot?
Perhaps, if only for exposition of other characters. We also still have Zelena, so Oz would be fun to explore again. Maybe in 5B we’ll have a chance to explore a new realm entirely.
8) Who is Lily’s father?
I like the Arthur idea, especially with Blue’s vague comment about the gender of the sorcerer, my crack theory is that the Once twist will be Merlin is actually a woman. I could see them doing this with Arthur though too…But with the previous uncertainty of the identity of the Sorcerer, I’d lean more towards that twist with lots of Once style parallels between Merlin and Emma.
9) Will Rumple wake up? When?
I thought I had read somewhere that there was going to be more of a time jump for the opening of season 5? If this is the case, I could see Rumple either coming out of the magic coma sometime during the time jump and we see how he has been struggling with his new role in the town, or coming out of it very early on in the first or second episode.
10) Will Henry get a new quill?
Crack theory: if the Apprentice really is dead, perhaps Henry becomes the new Apprentice? Could work really nicely if Merlin is actually the big bad and is defeated by Emma in the end, Henry being Emma’s apprentice could be a nice full-circle to the story.
11) Is the Apprentice dead?
I’m so uncertain about this. Based on spoilers for the finale I want to say he is dead, but I thought they left it open enough in the episode that I’m wondering if he’ll play more of a role in this next arc (though I could totally see a vague opening scene with Merlin and the Apprentice (starting Merlin’s backstory), giving the sense that it could be taking place in the present, but then the next scene makes it clear that no, it was in fact a flashback). To go along with my earlier theory, if he is alive, but perhaps dies in this next arc, that would be another opportunity for Henry to possibly fill that role, especially if Emma does defeat Merlin and takes the mantle as Sorcerer. (we did have an off-hand comment in 4A of “I know I’m not sorceress of the year,” could have been a tiny bit of foreshadowing? Much like the dagger comment?)
12) How will the SB gang find Emma?
Agreed that the Jolly is back for a reason, and as I mentioned earlier, with Hook and Ursula now being on good terms, perhaps she would help them take the Jolly wherever they need to go. I also wonder though, if after going through obstacles to summon Emma, plot device finally allows the summons to work (probably something to do with Merlin wanting to reach Storybrooke) and Emma comes to the group.http://lindseyabendschein.com/wp/

that the enchanted wood brings life to the page (could the paper be made from enchanted trees as well?). One thought I had since the beginning of this show was whether these characters really are just characters from a book that were brought into this world and made real by the curse (rather than living and existing in different realms). A line that kind of goes along with this idea was from Regina in the 3A finale (RE: undoing the curse): Storybrooke would no longer exist because it doesn’t belong here, none of us do. </p>
It was very much reminding me of another show I have watched (and rewatched), Fushigi Yugi, only the story of Fushigi Yugi is almost the reverse where person goes into the story book and becomes part of THEIR story. Towards the end (spoilers) the book’s characters do end up in the real world, but are met with the realization that they are made-up characters and don’t actually exist in reality, more importantly CAN NOT exist in our world. I don’t actually think this is the direction the show is going, but I have continued to find some of the similarities between the two stories very interesting and thought I’d share in case it sparked some inspiration in others. 🙂http://lindseyabendschein.com/wp/

Though I’ve been a long-time listener of the podcast and fan of the show, this is my first time posting to the forum. I love reading so many of the theories going on in the rest of the forums, and am super excited about what the end of this season may bring. This being the Captain Swan thread, and my being an avid CS shipper, I mostly just wanted to say hi to my fellow shipmates, and see if anyone has any other thoughts as to what may be in store for our ship as the season comes to a close. I’ve seen some really interesting theories based on the spoilers, and was curious if there were any other thoughts about where things may be heading, especially with regards to Captain Swan.</p>
