I absolutely love that about MRJ. Just like he did research on making his Cajun accent sound more authentic on True Blood.
Also I’m pretty sure this wasn’t script either in “Manhattan”:
It really looked like a spur of the moment decision from MRJ to make that Rumple gesture. I wish he can confirm this.
OUAT deprived itself of his awesomeness… 🙁

It was something new, unique, different, complex, deep, endearing, and hopeful, but it wasn’t flashy, hip, and cool either.
I guess I need chemistry with substance. Chemistry alone doesn’t cut it for me and is very subjective. I find way more chemistry in the Neal, Emma, and Henry dynamic then Emma and Hook. Which always leaves Henry out. You remember Henry? The kid that’s Emma’s True Love? That brought her home like Neal did? That taught her about family like Neal did? That’s an example of chemistry with substance. Showing a deeper meaning towards their interaction that was established in Season 1. Where was Henry in the finale? We barely even saw him, the kid that started it all. -_- *Raging*
lunatigerParticipantI don’t understand the hold that these villains have over the audience. Sassy one-liners are great but it doesn’t make for great storytelling if you just sprinkle it here and there with no substance. All I hear is CHEMISTRY! Well chemistry is cool and all but what about story? You know getting a full beginning, middle, and end of fairy-tales? All were getting now is constant rehash arcs, character taking two steps forwards, a million steps back. And reboots of established plots and characters. It’s like a never ending circle.

She doesn’t truly know Hook, so she can’t make a fully informed choice about whether or not she wants to be with him.
Exactly. It bothers me that they’ve continually side swept the whole Rumple/Hook grudge. Which pissed me off when I was watching the finale. You can clearly tell that they’ve deliberately muted Rumple and Hook so as not to get into the deeper issue in front of EMMA! OMG I wanted to scream. I thought Rumple was lenient towards Hook given this timeline version of Rumple. Realistically he wouldn’t have played so nice and given Hook a hard time even if he was from the future.
That’s what destroyed the show for me. I actually felt ill while watching. I wanted justice for Neal and he never got it. I wanted justice for the Charmings and they never really got it. It just leaves me feeling so bitter. People say GOT is the most depressing show, I would have the disagree. At least they had some of their “good” characters paid back what was done to them, and boy did it feel good watching the payoff even if it’s brief. I need more payoff for the “Heroes” Emma got some when she realized what Home is to her and I felt happy for her, but then she ran off to suck face with Hook and not spend it with her family. Probably the most obnoxious kissing scene, inter cutting in between Rumbelle and OQ. That really ruined it for me.
The only salvage was like RG said before “No one saves me but me.” I love it. It was Emma from season 1 for a brief second. And using the tricks Neal taught her to survive was icing on the cake. Neal was her rock. I’m sure she used what he taught her in many of her bail bonds cases. The lock pick was also a call back to season 2 “Aw Hell no! I taught her that!” In Neverland there were so many instances of connection with Neal and what she remembered from him. It always leads back to him.
lunatigerParticipantAs much as I would like to let go, it’s extremely hard. Like an addiction. I woke up in the middle of the night, just crying about the injustice of Neal’s character and the show’s shitty direction. And I know the issue has been beaten to death, but it’s good to get it out of the system, perhaps even give lurkers something to relate to during this time or mourning. I was just appalled at what they did to the original fairy-tales, (Neverland and Oz being a shadow of its original glory, in my opinion) all the characters, even Hook, who isn’t really Hook anymore. I don’t know what he is now…I’m trying to pinch myself to see I’m not dreaming….or stuck in some Twilight Zone…. God I need a drink…
I finally finished watching the entire two episodes. And liked and hated it at the same time. The Emma moments in EF was awesome. Her interacting with DO Rumple was hysterical. I just pretend to paint Hook out of the picture and it gets better. Seriously Hook serves no impact on the overall OUAT story and core message. That was left to the FB Neal scene. Even after death he was still relevant to the show which is astounding, since it proves that they can’t write him out entirely no matter how hard they try. He will always be relevant to Rumple and Emma, two main core characters on the show.
I’m still angry about how things turned out. There’s a difference in being sad about a death and then there’s being totally pissed off at how badly the death affected the storyline. I’ve seen many death scenes that shocked me to my core but this was more anger then shock. I really believe something happened behind the scenes. The story just made a 180 degree turn and retcon everything it established from the first 2 seasons. Something just doesn’t smell right. I had an inkling that Neal’s death was a dramatic change in the story early on, I fully believe it now more than ever because like someone posted before the writers are pretty much making it up as they go along since they introduced freakin Frozen as the next main arc, a movie that barely came out less then a year ago. That doesn’t scream a 5 year story laid out like they always claim they know what direction they’re heading. News flash! They don’t.*SIGH*
I’m really glad after reading those TV site reviews that some people are starting to see the light and pointing out A&E’s crap. Those who can view the story as a whole can see the show just derailed and fell off the railroad tracks and into the raven and burst into flames. Others who just care about their characters will just turn a blind eye. But I don’t see anyone that happy except for CS. They’ve pretty much pissed off more the half of the fandom now. Rumbellers, OutlawQueen, SFers, Neal fans, SQ, etc… It’s just a mess.
Phee wrote: Shiny new crack headcanon: Elsa overheard all about the Neal situation, how Emmma wanted to save him, how Rumple could have saved him but instead forgot. That combined with Emma having brought back Marian which led to Regina’s heartbreak, will lead to Elsa teaming up with Henry to restore the TL relationships of both his mothers.
I like Phee, I like…
You know what would have also made this a more emotional impactful episode. Having Emma time travel to EF with NEAL if he was still alive. Both reconciling their issues with each other. Both seeing what their parent’s life was like back then. Emma finally accepting her EF heritage and Neal witnessing firsthand his father’s dedication to finding him and opening up to being a loving person with Belle. I can imagine their quips about the Disney movies they watched while seeing real life fairy-tales unfold. I can imagine Neal teaching Emma some EF customs since he lived there for 14 years. I can imagine Emma having to flirt with past Hook and Neal getting jealous and sucker punching him as pay back for what he did to him in Neverland. (I’m sorry Hook getting jealous with himself was beyond stupid) Finally both fixing the past and Neal reassuring Rumple that his son still loves him and would forgive him and he’ll find his son again. Then Emma and Neal jumps back through the time portal. Finding their way HOME. They finally realized they found their Tallahassee. It would have been beautiful!!!!I’m thinking of writing this AU fic. hmmm….
lunatigerParticipantPhee said: Actually I will rant about one thing right now. Emma told Rumple to forget what she told him so the future wouldn’t change, at the same time as she was taking Marian back to the future where she didn’t belong, like that was totally fine and wouldn’t affect anything in the future, having a person there who didn’t belong. Hypocritical much?!?!
Yep, this clearly tells me that the writers changed the SF storyline to make way for CS. I’m sorry but that’s how I feel, because they’ve made just too many glaring OOC moments with a lot of characters so that they can keep Neal away and Emma can start her romance with Hook right away. The pacing is just off. If you love storytelling as a whole and not just one character you can see that it’s just weird for the characters to say one thing last season and then do a complete 180 the now.
Emma saying “I need you. I love you” last season and then “Never stopped loving him.” and then do a complete 180 by not even given much effort to change Neal’s fate when she so easily put effort into changing Marion. Just makes me flip the table.
This is why I feel hurt and frustrated A&E. I know you can’t hear me or care. But it’s how a lot of people feel.
Hmmm… how come the Quotes button is not working?????
lunatigerParticipantouatrandothoughts says: and get super smashed while doing so
Well speaking as the residential forum drunk…. I highly recommend it if you’re a total Neal fan…
They bring back Marion but not Neal… *pinches forehead*
You know what I’m tired of hating…and I don’t really hate… I’m just….disappointed… 🙁
OUAT did give us a lot of awesome SF moments from season 1 and 2 and I’ll hold those moments till my last dying breath…
What they could have been…I’ll just leave it to my own imagination…
Fanfiction here I come! It’s gonna be an AU season 3 that’s for sure…. 😉
lunatigerParticipantPhee wrote: I gather from everyone’s comments that they basically set it up both emotionally and logically that he could come back, but then they left him dead thanks to yet another OOC moment? What even?! *SIGH* Good thing I have both chocolate and alcohol to consume when I watch it.
I’ll join you with more alcohol. All I want is my Neal moment and I’m pretty much done.
I heard they’re bringing Elsa ? Oh boy I’m not sure I can stomach how A&E will wreck it in season 4….after Neverland and Oz…
I’m contemplating on starting up fanfiction again. What do you guys think? Do I have some readers? Warning I’m no JK Rowling….it’s been 10+ years since I’ve done it. :/
lunatigerParticipant*Hangs head low*… 🙁
I’m really emotional right now… Good or bad it’s up in the air. I didn’t watch the episode yet, but just reading everyone’s comments it’s emotional. But I’m glad that on one hand we got one more scene with MRJ
On the other hand they had the perfect opportune moment to change Neal’s fate, but *inserts lots of cursing* of course didn’t do it. argh!
And naming the baby Neal? Err… I’m not as angry as everyone, just… :/ weird out because Emma and Rumple has to be reminded of “Neal” every time they come across the little prince. As well as SF/Neal fans WTF A&E???? *big heavy sigh*
lunatigerParticipantOMG…. just reading tumblr and I came straight away here…
This might just might make me run to watch the episode when it’s available for download….
*cries softly
My baby! T_T I’ll do it just to see you one more time!
