slurpeez108 Can I just say that you are brilliant!?
Agree with everything you’ve said. Great comparison with Neal and Snow.
[adrotate group="5"]lunatigerParticipantI just want to post real quick and give an invisible high-five to all Swanfire lovers before going to bed. I absolutely LOVED this episode! The Echo caves was hands down the best scene yet. So many heartfelt moments between the characters. As much as it hurts to watch, I’m kinda relieved. No more hiding, it’s all out in the open. We knew it wasn’t going to be a smooth journey for Swanfire but this episode shown that they’ve taken their first step at healing!
I bawled into tears when Emma confessed she loves Neal and held my breath when she paused for that brief second. Like everyone I thought she was going to confess feelings for Hook since she heard his heartfelt confession. But she didn’t she just laid out all the pain and hurt she still feels from their past but that she still loves him and “ALWAYS WILL” *Cue me tearing up as I watch this scene*
I love that Neal didn’t interrupt her, he just sat their and listen to her confession. And he wasn’t upset. After she finished he just immediately embraced her and wrapped his arms around her showing how much he cared. *Cue me losing it at this point and sobbing like a baby*
Then Neal saying he had a secret too and that he “Will never stop fighting for her.” right in front of Emma. My heart just leap when he said that.
Funny how a simple embrace had me feeling like my heart was twisted in knots and my eyes welling up with tears, then a “passionate” kiss that just happens an episode ago.
Those new Swanfire GIFS are bringing me to tears again! UGH! I think this is all I can handle for tonight…
I have several boxes of tissues in the corner if anyone needs… T_T
lunatigerParticipantSnow: *Testing Ariel* “What’s this?” *Holds up a fork
Ariel: “Mini Trident!”
Snow: *Mouthing the word fork…*
Ariel: “Salad Trident?”
*Ariel pockets the mini trident/dinglehopper.*
Ariel is just too cute!!! 🙂
lunatigerParticipantThe show is back on track! Love this episode
Favorite Moments:
-Hands down the echo caves scene! It was so hard to watch but I love that the characters opened up to their REAL feelings. Hook surprised me for once. The Charmings was devastating. And Emma’s secret revealed to Neal broke my heart. But Neal stating he’ll never stop fighting for her ALOUD to Emma even after she said that to him, just blew my mind. **I’m still crying from that scene!** T_T
-Ariel is what I always imagined her to be!!!! YAY! She’s awesome and bubbly and calls a fork a trident, and can swim to other worlds.
-Rumple and Regina tag team! We all know it amounts to sheer awesome snarkiness!
-Pan tempting Rumple to be with Belle and start over with a new family. Creepy coming from Pan but I love the suggestion. LOL
-Regina getting a death threat from the REAL Ursala.
Least Favorite Moments
-Regina being Ursala. (Thought it lessened considerable when the real Ursala appeared)
-Ariel and Eric’s love story seemed a bit rushed.
-Eric not being energetic enough. But I’ll give the actor another chance.
lunatigerParticipantI’ve seen the other parallels to other Emma ships which is what prompted me to make one that ya know, was actually based on a direct parallel within the context of the show and the film. Not merely a freeze frame vague similarity which I could very easily apply to just about anyone on the show. While poking some light hearted fun at those that take sole claim over silly things like this too seriously.
Another one that I could of added but figured I could save it for another gif set was the whole name alias with Flynn Rider=Eugene Neal Cassidy=Baelfire thing
See, I could make my own silly meta too. #boom
Those are some amazingly cute GIFs! I love seeing the parallels between Swanfire and Tangled. You did an excellent job. Yeah they do look pretty similar shot by shot AND in CONTEXT of the show. I just hope they get a similar ending! I would get a kick out of seeing Emma in a fairy-tale wedding dress and Neal deck out in a princely garb. (We know he can rock a suit just like his papa 😉 ) One can only dream for now…
Phee is making an excellent point and one I’d like to back up with numbers. Going just from season 3, between 9.5 and 11 million people watch ONCE over the 7 days viewing period. Of those 9.5-11 million people, internet fan culture makes up MAYBE 5-10%. This is not to say that internet fan culture isn’t big or unimportant but we have a tendency to think it’s larger based on the fact that we actively engage with it–Twitter, Tumblr, sites like this. The vast majority of viewers of ONCE are not part of fan culture, but simply just watching TV. A and E know this and that is why time and time again Adam has said stuff along the lines of, “we don’t write ships. We write story.” OR “we’re telling the story we want to tell.”
Very good point. Internet fandom is only a fraction of the viewership. I just hope Adam and Eddy stick to their guns, and don’t melt under pressure. I remember hearing from their official podcast that they were sort of contemplating on changing the whole Nealfire being Henry’s father because fandom had figured it out too easily and I remember seeing a lot of complaints on how “predictable” it was on multiple threads. I’m really glad that they didn’t (because it’s such a poetic story) but it kinda scared me that they thought about it. Fandom is only a fraction of the viewers but it does gain media and the creators attention, thus do have some impact on the show.
I do have faith that Adam and Eddy will tell the story they want to tell. I’ve not been disappointed so far…
lunatigerParticipantThe abandonment issues here between both characters are what makes this such an amazingly romantic story for me. It reminds me of the quote from The Perks of Being a Wallflower: “We accept the love we think we deserve”. I don’t think Neal ever thought he deserved Emma, always half expected that she would leave him (a la Rumple and Belle) and thus never thought she’d forgive him, and didn’t go after her. He accepted Tamara, because he felt like she could be his last hope for happiness, even if it wasn’t what he truly wanted.
What a great line! Sums it up perfectly. Neal is like all human beings.
THIS! One of the many CS arguments that SF isn’t true love, is that Neal is simply a plot device for all the other characters since he has no story of his own. All the other characters have had their own story lines without him, or about/for him, so he obviously must not be important except to stand in the way of other characters happiness. I see this in quite the opposite way: His story is *central* to all the other characters, he is the one that brings them all together! And without him, we wouldn’t have this show. Rumple wouldn’t have become the Dark One, he wouldn’t have manipulated Regina into being the Evil Queen and casting the curse, which led to Snow and Charming sending Emma through the wardrobe, to Emma being in the foster care system, and eventually finding Neal to fall in love with and having Henry. How can anyone say he’s not important? And I think that being in Neverland and having to face his past will prove to everyone how important he is, and how strong of a person he truly is. He’s facing all of his fears in order to find Emma, even if she doesn’t accept him. I can not see how his story wouldn’t have a happy ending, when all he ever wanted was a happy ending for everyone he’s ever known.
This is an argument that I roll my eyes at. Boy oh boy…the reasons that people come up with to discredit Neal. You have a great point. Neal is central to the story and what motivates all the characters he’s connected to. Without him there would be no story to tell. His personal conflict with his father is what sets into motion everything else that happens.
Another one that I roll my eyes at (though not really SF related) is Neal is always criticizing his father when he has also made wrong choices. Uh…Rumple’s wrong “choices” involved torture and murder! Either from minor slights, vendettas, deal-breakers, threats, or pure pleasure. The last thing he saw his father doing was physically abusing Dr. Whale for fun. I LOVE Rumple, but I don’t excuse his actions. The fact that Neal is brave enough to tell it like it is to his father is exactly why I admire him. It’s pretty much just like the Charmings taking the hit when they tell it like it is to Regina, from some die-hard Evil-Regals. Neal “bad decision” in leaving Rumple behind involved the safety of his son. Rumple admits that he was planning on killing a child to save himself. (The only saving grace was because Henry was Neal’s child) We saw Rumple almost kill Henry but was only interrupted. He knows what his father is fully capable of. Trusting Rumple with his son was a gamble that he was not willing to make since Rumple has shown no evidence (thus far in Neal’s perspective) that he has changed, even the slightest.
I just wanna *HUG* you people. Big, squishy, group hug with Neal in the middle.
Yep hugs all around. Finally people that get Nealfire!
lunatigerParticipantWelcome to the SF thread, lunatiger! I couldn’t agree more with what you wrote from Neal unfairly getting blamed for everything and Hook getting no blame from a lot of die-hard CS fans. Also, like you, I find Neal to be a very sympathetic and very human character, despite the mistakes he’s made.
Thanks! Slurpeez108! 🙂 I don’t post as much but after seeing soooo much hate against Neal, I really need to lend my support to that character. I feel a lot of the hate is pretty unjust and hypocritical (though that’s my opinion). I’ve loved Neal since Tallahassee and he didn’t disappoint in Nasty Habits. It was a surprise that he actually exceeded my expectations given how much I admired him before. Those GIFs are amazing! They perfectly illustrate what I’ve been saying all along. Emma and Neal are both two halves of a whole. They know what each other struggles with abandonment more then anyone.
Well, there are some hints you may get your wish!
Again, I think you’ll get your wish. Jennifer Morrison said it would happen it a way we’d never suppose. There was also a hint that it will come in a “surprising” way.
Can I give a WHOOP! in the air? I’m hyperventilating right now. That’s awesome to hear!!! Thanks for sharing that. A shame that I have to wait an extra week! I must keep my fangirling on the down low until then. @_@
lunatigerParticipantAll great thoughts and theory. Especially about Wendy! (can’t wait till we see that!)
I just want to jump in here and post my thoughts on what’s been floating around the web. Sorry if this is repeated, but just want to lay it out there. The kiss really put everyone into a tailspin. I guess since it was spicy and hyped up so much by the media. But I really can’t imagine Emma falling for Hook even after that kiss. The whole episode felt a bit off since we barely got to mutual respect between Emma and Hook and all of a sudden Hook leers at Emma trying to catch her eye oh-so obviously. I just can’t buy it. There was no gradual build up, and yet I hear CS shippers claim it was there since Tallahassee. Perhaps on Hooks part (but he was basically doing that to all the ladies) but certainly not Emma. She barely tolerated him back then. (She bashed him over the head with a trash can for crying out loud) She is starting to respect him now but falling in love? Hell no. It’s waayyy to soon for that.Another thing I’ve been commonly seeing is that people argue Neal just up and left Emma, abandoning her completely, for his own reasons. Never searched for her and never cared for her since he got engaged so quickly with Tamara. So “he can’t possibly be Emma’s TRUE LOVE~!” or so they claim. While I do think the whole jail part was a bit iffy, I don’t think he completely abandoned her.
1.) Neal REALLY did think it was best to let her fulfil her destiny. The guy is a heavy believer given all that he saw with his father and possibly Neverland. I think in Neal’s mindset you don’t screw around with destiny. August also left him without many options. And knowing Neal’s character he’s the hero type. Like Snow and Charming, he’s the type to sacrifice to save lives. Funny how everyone lays the blame mostly on Neal but none on the Charmings who pretty much did the same thing.
2.) Neal wanted Emma to find her family. FAMILY is very important to Neal. He’s been searching for that he’s whole life. He’s brief stint with the Darlings was pretty much the happiest he’s ever been since he wanted Hook to take him back to them. They are both one in the same when it comes to being orphans. A lost boy and a lost girl. He knows Emma has been searching for her parents as well. The grief there is strong when you’ve been alone most of your life. So giving Emma the chance to find her family is more important than keeping her all to himself.
3.) He left her the car and money to get back on her feet with. He left EVERYTHING to her, saved nothing for himself. (Though August took the money, darn it August!) I believed if Emma saw the money it might have soften the blow a bit. (I don’t claim that it still ok for him to leave her nor do I believe Emma should feel any less hurt) $20,000 is A LOT to help get back on her feet with and take care of herself. It could have made Emma’s thinking more along the lines of WHY DID HE LEAVE? More then WHY DIDN’T HE LOVE ME? Since she wouldn’t have thought he just used her to get the watches and get the money. Why would he use her just to give her back the money again?
Biggest complaint from CS is that Neal didn’t sought Emma out. But according to Adam and Eddy “It’s been so long that he thought that his chance with Emma has past. And that she would never forgive him.” That makes Neal very human, to be afraid and to make mistakes. People forget that he’s ALSO been ABANDONED and rejected. Not just Emma. (Will no one think of Neal?) He was abandoned not once, not twice, but THREE times. By his mother, father, AND Hook. And it wasn’t out of love like the Charmings. Each one of those times that he was rejected was because of self-serving reason. (His mother running away with another man. His father choosing power over him. And Hook, not liking his answer to keep him on the ship.) I guess having Emma (The Love of his life) potentially reject him as well, would be too much to bear. How could Emma possibly forgive him, if he didn’t think he could forgive himself? But! He actually said ALOUD how sorry he was. He actually apologizes for the one wrong thing he actually did to another human being, As much as people talk about Emma’s walls being up, Neal also had he walls up. Afraid of Emma saying the one thing he dreads, never loving him and never wanting to see him again aloud to his face. And if Emma sought comfort from Hook. Neal sought comfort from Tamara to make being alone less painful. (Again a very human thing to do). He had no idea that he would see Emma or his father again.
We see Neal even vocalize that not seeking Emma out was the biggest mistake he’s even made. He’s shown he’s repenting, which is more than I can say for Hook who has not once mentioned how sorry he was for a SINGLE CRIME HE’S COMMITED. (His talk about honor was what I laughed at most at during the episode.) If Hook had said, “Sorry for stealing the bean and leaving you all to die.” Then perhaps I wouldn’t feel so antagonize by Hook.
My wishlist is to see a Nealfire centric episode. I don’t really count Nasty Habits because it was more of Rumple’s struggle then Bae’s. I’m not sure if there was any spoilers on this, but I desperately want a Nealfire story with NO Rumple in it. Perhaps his stint in Neverland or aftermath when he escaped. Everyone else got their centric episodes. I want Nealfire to get his.
I’m also anxiously waiting for Neal and Hook’s confrontation. How will they both react to one another after all these years? We know it’s bound to happen. I just hope the writers make it epic.
lunatigerParticipantThose GIFs are amazing!!!! How could anyone not want them to be one big happy family!!!!
I’m soooo glad I’ve found a safe haven of Swanfire shippers! I’ve battled through nasty threads of CaptSwan vs Swanfire and needless to say it gets ugly real fast. I don’t mind who Emma chooses as long as it’s consistant to the story. And the only consistency I see is Swanfire. I’ve read through all your posts and wholeheartedly agree with everything that’s said. That Coldplay video had me sobbing like a baby in the corner. They are total end game! Just take heart that Swanfire is fully realized with actual scenes while CaptSwan fans grasp at straw and examine every hand gesture and eyebrow twitch to prove that their ship is THE ship. Swanfire fans don’t need to grasp at straws, their “I love you” scene says it all.
October 28, 2013 at 10:18 pm in reply to: 3×05 “Good Form” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #219648lunatigerParticipantI have to admit this is my least favorite episode so far. But it still had really good moments.
Likes:
-Hook hitting on Emma and Charming being the protective dad
-Emma letting Regina go “dark” and do what it takes to send Henry a message. *It actually kinda made a gasp and then give a whoop! No more goody-two-shoes Emma*
-Regina, Emma and Snow using the mirror as Facetime with Henry, LOL
-Hook and Pan’s interaction, and Hook’s struggle to do the right thing.
-Hook saving David with the “Fountain of Youth” water. The “Oh Bloody Hell”, as he was chopping away at the veins made me laugh, as if he can’t believe he’s going through with saving Charming’s life.
-I like the beginning of Hook’s flashback as a Lieutenant.
-Hook and Emma’s banter then kiss, Ok I admit it was cool (But I’m still a big supporter of Swanfire!)
-Pan telling Hook that Nealfire is alive and on the island. Oooo, will Hook do the honorable thing??? Dum Dum!
-Seeing Neal hung up next to yet another mystery box of the season!
Dislikes:
-Hook’s brother Liam – He’s credibility just flew out the window when he pierced his skin with the Dreamshade. That was just plain dumb.
-Hook and crew suddenly deciding to become pirates all the while totting about “Being honorable” What’s honorable about pillaging and plundering and taking other men’s wives???
-Charming’s stubbornness was getting a little annoying.
-Not enough Neal! 🙁
