Well… In the past, woman without husband had problems to fleed their children.
Children about 14 had to make the war too : without his father, Bae had no chance to survive more than 14.

A coward would have flee some years ago – more : knowing he has no more his woman at home, thus just his son. The weak-man that went on the boat, even knowing he cannot fight ? Or the handsome-strong man that is sure to win ? Is this not bravery, trying even when there is no hope?
(*and thus the only person who will take care of her boy)5- To save his children, he has only a “little” thing to do – something that seems impossible to succeed.
But he decides to make it. He use what he has, what he knows, he works together with his son.
The previous “dark one” is a true evil – or a true desesperate soul – as in exchange of the money-gift that makes him a man almost as poor as himself (disguised as a beggar), he offers a curse.
Did the previous dark-one choose Rample, as he can feel his despair ? (For me, the biggest flaw of Rample is to see him only through the eyes of others)
Thus, did Rample has fallen into the same trap that he later tend to his deal-partners ?
Don’t know. But the more important here, speaking about bravery, is that he has the courage to find the dague and the courage to kill the previous dark-one. I would not have this courage.
Even if the previous dark-one could not fight Rample (as he has the dague), take someone’s life is something.And well, why the king did not ask the previous dark-one, instead of helping to enlist childs as soldiers, to win the war ? He could, as it’s the firts thing that Rampling-dark-one makes.
I have the reply : to let us have the pleasure to watch this new great work of R.C.I completey agree with everything you said.
Ok, this episode is after my own heart. A Belle and Mulan girlmance, Rumbelle, a new stranger…why can’t this episode get here faster?
Personally, I love the idea of Belle and Mulan going on an adventure together. I kind of have an obsession with seeing Belle with a sword. I just want to see her kill something.
And poor Smee. He’s going to be Mr. Gold’s new guinea pig isn’t he? GOOD! He deserves it for kidnapping Belle.
Belle vs Cinderella – Belle. This girl has seen some scary things in her time. Ogre wars, strange impish magic men, evil queens, murderous pirates. I think she can handle her own.
Neal/possibly Bae vs Charming – In a fist fight, Neal. In a sword fight, Charming.
Snow vs Blue Fairy – All Snow has to do is just snatch away Blue’s fairy dust and this fight is over.
Regina vs Cora – I want to say Regina, because I want Regina to defeat Cora. But at the moment, I’m going to say Cora. Cora is ruthless on an entirely different level.
Rumple vs Hook – Rumpel has proven to be quite competent with a sword and he has the dark forces of the Dark One on his side. So, I’m going to with Rumpel.
August vs Jefferson – Jefferson. He managed to kidnap two women and hold them hostage all in one day. This dude lets it all hang out.
Red vs Mulan – Red would eat Mulan alive.
Granny vs Gepetto – Granny values the second amendment like nobody’s business.
Aurora vs Nova – Neither. They’d just spend the rest of eternity scratching and mean mugging each other.
Grumpy vs Whale – Grumpy would smack Whale over the head with his liquor bottle. Game Over.
Phillip vs Thomas – Meh…
