ModeratorSeries premiere for “For The People”: .8 in the demo/ 3.22 million eyeballs. Black-ish did a .9/.8 so while you can make the argument that FtP kept its audience that’s still pretty bad for a series premiere. Rather DoA, honestly. Wonder if it’ll be pulled off air after a few episodes.
0.8 for a series premiere screams dead on arrival. I don’t think it’ll be pulled, though, unless it starts doing 0.4s, which is typically around where ABC pulls new drama flops. Curious to see how Deception holds this Sunday, and then next Thursday is the premiere of Grey’s spinoff Station 19.

ModeratorTo think it’s actually the spinoff that gets a finale title based on the phrase “And They All Lived Happily Ever After”, while the mother show doesn’t.

ModeratorSooo Maui’s hook is the MacGuffin of the week. Wanna bet they’re gonna remove Maui from it altogether and just use it as a visual representation of the movie Moana with none of the culture or context?
To be fair, the demigod Maui and his hook are a part of preexisting mythology. Moana just borrowed them. So theoretically they could also be taking ideas from that original mythology:

ModeratorEven though we’ve been cancelled and the ratings don’t exactly matter, I was curious if the ABC gambit of picking up AI and moving it to our old time slot of Sunday at 8 (carried over into 9pm) would pay off….
A 2.1 in the first block of time and a 2.4 in second block.
I really have no idea what ABC was hoping for (ie: is that a success, soft, or a total bust) but the drama that followed (Deception) lost a full demo point and did a 1.3 so if ABC was also hoping that an AI lead in would give them another hit drama this year, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
A 1.3 at 10pm would normally be seen as good, but this was Deception’s series premiere, and its retention from Idol was awful. Especially in unroundeds:
AF Home Videos ……………… 1.096 … (1.005 … 1.187)
American Idol ………………….. 2.261 … (2.016 … 2.234 … 2.417 … 2.376)
Deception ……………………….. 1.253 … (1.444 … 1.062)Deception lost almost 4 tenths between half hours. I predict it will further crash in the coming weeks, and be another dud for ABC. Warner Bros. dramas on ABC for some reason seem to be cursed, upon research. In the past 30 years, the majority were cancelled after only 1 Season, or got 2 Seasons at the very most.ABC has other upcoming drama premieres with For the People, Station 19, and The Crossing.
I predict For the People is going to flop, as it appears to have little buzz, is in the infamous Tuesday 10pm deathslot, doesn’t have its Shondaland companions on TGIT to help it, has a weakened Black-ish as its lead-in for its premiere, and its premiere is going right up against the premiere of NBC’s Rise, which will have the This Is Us finale as its lead-in. Station 19, on the otherhand, I think could work. It’s another Grey’s spinoff, and will have said mother show as its lead-in. The Crossing seems like another Lost wannabee that will easily bomb.

ModeratorFinals for 712 are in. We kept our 0.5, as expected.

ModeratorThat would make sense. OUAT doesn’t have the same pull it used to back, like when it wanted to incorporate Disney’s precious moneymaker known as Frozen.
Plus, when they tried a similar stunt with Brave in Season 5, it didn’t work. Season 5 actually premiered tying Season 4’s finale. Aladdin was probably another ploy to increase ratings for Season 6, but that too didn’t work.

ModeratorOooh I don’t know how I feel about them introducing Maui’s fishhook from Moana. I don’t think we have any casting for anyone to play Maui or Moana and if they try to make Nook a new version of Maui….eh….Imma side eye it pretty hard.
It’s going to feel strange if the only thing we get from Moana is Maui’s hook as a MacGuffin of the Week. You’d think these writers would have jumped at the chance to include some of the actual characters, unless they were denied and given limited access by Disney this time around?
