Moderator–While I didn’t expect Alex to be Alexi I also don’t think it was a major twist because this is only the second episode and we don’t have a firm grasp on Alex to begin with. Saving the Russian twist for later would have made more of an impact.
Considering that we only have 10 episodes, I expect that each regular will only get 1 centric each. I guess they could have saved Alex’s centric for a later episode. I do appreciate the twist, because it does given some much needed dimension to Alex’s character. He’s not just some egotistical pretty boy.
I agree that episode 2 is better than the pilot, but still not must see TV. I’ll still watch the rest, since there’s not much else to really watch this Summer anyway. Note that Ian Goldberg, who wrote plenty of episodes for the first 2 Seasons of OUAT, wrote this episode.
By the way, did anyone notice that Alex’s boss at the dry cleaners was the same actor who played Isaac’s boss on OUAT? Is this actor typecast to play mean bosses? lol

ModeratorSo I take it Andrew Chambliss is writing Episode 3….hmmm….
Actually, he’s writing 602:
working on 602 right now

If I had a guess, he’s either writing it by himself, or he’s writing it with Dana Horgan, who is often his writing partner these days. The 2nd episode tends to be either a Regina centric or a Snow and/or Charming centric. Given how many Snow/Charming episodes Andrew has written, I’m guessing 602 will be one. Especially since I’m expecting 601 to be Regina centric this time around, since the Evil Queen looks to be one of the main plotlines for this Season.

ModeratorFor those interested in such things, the ratings for the series premiere weren’t great (ok, that’s sort of mild).
Eyeballs: .63 million
Demo: .2
It had the best possible spot with Pretty Little Liars–the show holding Freeform together with its ratings for the network–didn’t help at all. PLL got a .6 with 1.24 million eyeballs. That’s a pretty nasty drop given how much promotion went into DoS.
(as a side note, Freeform seems to be in a free for all…)Yeah, here are the latest ratings for the other Freeform shows:
– Baby Daddy: Last episode got a 0.3 and 0.61 total viewers.
– Fosters: Last episode got a 0.5 and 1.05 total viewers
– Guilt: Last episode got a 0.1 and 0.33 total viewers.
– Pretty Little Liars: Last episode got a 0.6 and 1.24 total viewers. It’s their best performing show.
– Shadowhunters (which last aired in April: Last episode got a 0.3 and 0.76 total viewers.
– Stitchers: Last episode got a 0.2 and 0.38 total viewers.
– Switched at Birth (which last aired in October): Last episode got a 0.4 and 0.4 total viewers.
– Young and Hungry: Last episode got a 0.3 and 0.63 total viewers. Now the thing to keep in mind is that cable is a whole other ball game, in comparison to traditional broadcast. Standards are a lot lower, and cancellations/renewals are much harder to predict. That’s why the TVGrimReaper doesn’t even bother with them. Plenty of the shows I listed were doing worse than Dead of Summer in their previous Seasons, and yet they were good enough for renewal. I guess the main thing will be to see how steady Dead of Summer is. Since it is cable, ratings don’t tend to fluctuate as dramatically as on broadcast.

ModeratorSo….thoughts?
Honestly, I think I’d need to watch a few more episodes to really digest how I feel, but I’m intrigued enough to watch more episodes. The mystery of the camp is enough to draw my interest, but I need to get to know more of the other characters. Naturally Amy was the focus of the first episode, but I expect others will get their own centrics as the show goes on. I’m most interested to learn more about Drew, Zelda Williams’ character, who appears to be trans. I also enjoy all of the 80s nods, including the use of music. Overall, the show seems alright, but it isn’t groundbreaking either.
June 28, 2016 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Season 6 Viewing Schedule (Season Premiere Date Confirmed!) #325139MatthewPaul
ModeratorWhich makes guess dates harder. Do we have a set date for the big ABC stuff that we always get off?
If we’re going back to Season 1-2 scheduling, here are my guesses:
– The first 8 episodes air, then the show takes November 20th off for the American Music Awards. The AMAs always air the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
– 1 to 2 episodes air before a brief hiatus for the Holidays in December. Or they could instead start the hiatus earlier, extending into the previous break.
– The show returns in January with 3-4 episodes. It airs for a few weeks, and takes off for the Super Bowl on February 5th. They may choose to take the week off on February 12th, since the Grammy’s typically air the Sunday after the Super Bowl.
– The show returns for about 2 episodes in February, but takes February 26th off for the Oscars.
– The show returns on March 5th, airing 4 episodes, before taking off for a Spring break hiatus. Easter is on April 16th.
– The show returns around April 23rd, and airs its final batch of episodes til the Season finale on May 14th. With the exception of Season 5, all Season finales have aired on Mother’s Day.It’s pretty complex, to say the least, but this was once the norm.

ModeratorEh gad! What a thing to say…
So what? Does the entire fandom STOP theorizing altogether, in order for them to not do this? It’s worth noting that they actually considered changing Baelfire’s identity, but ultimately chose not to because “this is the story we want to tell.” Would be nice to follow their own old advice.

ModeratorHmm… Neal, Mulan, Tinkerbell (she was Violet, right?) , Aurora, Merida, Young Ursula, Jekyll, Hyde, all had code names.
Neal was Jack, Mulan was Magnolia, Tinker Bell was indeed Violet (ironically before we got a real Violet), Aurora was Anastasia (also ironically before we got a real Anastasia), Merida was Evanna (this was the infamous casting call that said she was Rumple’s mother), Young Ursula was Miranda, Jekyll was Nathaniel, and Hyde was Jacob.
