ModeratorHas there ever been a casting call where the character was NOT referred to by a code name?
In recent years, the casting calls for the Camelot crew. Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere, and Percival used real names. However, it was already confirmed prior that we were going to explore Arthurian legend for Season 5. I know plenty of casting calls back during Season 1 used the actual character names like Cora and Jefferson. Other than that, casting calls have mainly consisted of code names. Adam and Eddy are fully aware that casting calls get reported on, so they’ll use code names and sometimes even false descriptions, in order to keep their identities secret.

ModeratorAll of this is awesome and great but means diddly squat on a show that can’t be bothered to get something like the birth order of Zeus and Hades right. I’m sure Morpheus will be the god of dreams and sleep on this show.
And that’s if he even turns out to be Morpheus at all. Like the previous castings calls, Morpheus could just be code name. WickedRegal might not be far off suggesting Aladdin’s genie.
MatthewPaul
ModeratorHypnos is the one related to sleep and Morpheus is his son and the god of dreams. Hypnos actually lives in the underworld, at least according to what i read, but im sure @RG is the one that can confirm if im mixing things.
Yeah, technically you’re right, but it’s not uncommon for adaptations to make Morpheus both the god of sleep and/or dreams. I wouldn’t be surprised if this show goes that route, knowing Adam and Eddy. After all, they called Hades “God of Death”, even though technically another Greek God holds that title.
MatthewPaul
Moderatorthe ABC series is casting for the premiere the role of Morpheus, as in the Greek god of dreams (versus, you know, Laurence Fishburne in The Matrix). He is described as “an old soul in a young body,” someone who is equally good at reading people as he is at hiding his own agenda.
I think this will tie into Rumple’s mission to wake Belle. Morpheus is the Greek God of sleep, so either Rumple is searching him out, or somebody who will fill that particular role. I can’t quite think who else it could be.

ModeratorYeah, seems like none of us predicted this title. On another note, it looks like the opposite of 501’s title.
MatthewPaul
ModeratorI wonder if that means Jafar will be back (assuming this is Aladdin and Jazz)
That depends on Naveen Andrews’ filming schedule for Sense8.

ModeratorIt’ll be nice to see everyone get back to S1 feel but…I’ll wait to see if that actually comes to fruition.
Agreed. They said the same thing about 5B, which to their credit some of it did feel like S1 again, but still not quite there.
MatthewPaul
ModeratorI’m also willing to place cookies on these two (Aladdin & Jasmine or otherwise) being the big Comic-Con footage tease reveal.
I’ve been predicting this for a while now.
MatthewPaul
ModeratorAlso, Simbad’s description sounds a lot like Aladdin (bit of a rogue, charming, quick witted)
As does Scheherazade’s description for Jasmine. A regal Middle Eastern beauty, who never backs down from a good fight.
MatthewPaul
ModeratorSeems like most of us believe this to be Aladdin and Jasmine, yes?
Yeah.
1) Both of these characters are from “One Thousand and One Nights”, like Aladdin is.
2) Aladdin and Jasmine are still on Adam and Eddy’s wishlist:
Who’s still on your wish list?
HOROWITZ: Aladdin and Jasmine are characters we love. The Princess and the Frog is a movie we really enjoyed, and we think that there are wonderful characters in there.

3) This response from the latest EW Hot Seat:
Will we ever see Aladdin or Jasmine on the show?
KITSIS: Oooh.
HOROWITZ: Can’t say.

4) They tend to incorporate fake names and sometimes even fake descriptions, when they do casting calls. Most infamous example was when they pretended to be casting Rumple’s mother, and it turned out to be Merida.
5) Both these characters’ casting calls coming out simultaneously implies that they will be connected. Sinbad and Scheherazade are both in “One Thousand and One Nights”, but they don’t actually interact directly. Scheherazade play the role of the storyteller, and Sinbad is one of the stories she tells.
6) They’re specifically casting for Middle-Eastern actors, which fits with Aladdin and Jasmine.
7) We saw two characters who suspiciously looked like they could have been Aladdin and Jasmine in the Land of Untold Stories in the Season 5 finale.
