ModeratorI hope we’re going back to classical 2D animation….I know chances are low, but a girl can dream…
Sadly no. The article refers to this being a CG animated film. The problem is the last two 2D animated films didn’t do well enough at the box office. 2009’s The Princess and the Frog and 2011’s Winnie the Pooh, but I see bigger reasons why those films suffered. Princess and the Frog went up against Avatar, and Winnie the Pooh was released the same weekend directly against the final Harry Potter film. But of course, Disney just sees it as “moviegoers don’t want 2D animation anymore.”

ModeratorWhat, or who, is that giant warrior monster guy? I’m really bum puzzled.
Looks like some sort of ice viking to me. Since Arendelle is based on Norway, perhaps they want to introduce more Norse culture into the show?

ModeratorI had an epiphany. My main issue with Rumple as of late is not knowing what his current motivation is, but now knowing at least somewhat why he wants the hat and looking back at what’s happened, I think I have some idea. He wants the hat so nobody can control him with the dagger ever again, right? Well, if Rumple still has some goodness left in him, I think he wants that for a reason other than just wanting more power. Perhaps Rumple simply doesn’t want his powers being used against those he cares about such as Belle and Henry? After all, we saw Rumple being controlled by Zelena all last Spring, including using his powers against people he cares about. I would think that experience would make Rumple tempted by the hat’s powers again more than anything. However, that would mean he’s once again using the wrong choices for “a good cause.” He doesn’t want anybody he cares about in danger, but in turn he’s creating more problems as a result.

ModeratorMoving this to 410 spoilers, because TVLine edited their article to change it to the 10th episode. Guess it was an error on their part.

ModeratorI dunno, I doubt he’d be so wise-cracky in general if his true love were dead, after all they’ve been through. And there’s no story in it if he’s just back because she died. More likely IMO that something happened to her and he was hoping to find a clue in the book that might help him save her.
That’s what I’d like to think, because her being dead doesn’t add up to the end of Wonderland because of two reasons:
1) Anastasia was revived by Nyx’s water because “she was meant to live on as the White Queen.” Why would she be revived only to die a year later?
2) The epilogue shows Alice telling her daughter about Will and Anastasia happily ruling Wonderland as the White King and Queen.I admit I myself am a little concerned that maybe they’re going to disregard how Wonderland ended just because the show failed and they don’t want to pay for Emma Rigby to return (at least not in a regular role), but if they’re going to add Will into the show, shouldn’t they do so in a way that doesn’t upset the people who actually did watch him on Wonderland? So the more optimistic approach is that Will and Anastasia have only been temporarily separated, and now he’s trying to find a way to get back to her. For one, maybe a reason he broke into the Snow Queen’s shop in the first place has to do with all of the mirrors. A looking glass is how he got to Wonderland in the first place, so he could be looking for a new looking glass. Dead or not dead, what happened to Anastasia and how Will got back to Storybrooke in the first place remains to be seen.

– Seeing Zoso at the beginning of the episode. It was a nice throwback.
– The Apprentice turning into a mouse was an amusing shout out to the Disney Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
– The magical broomstick.
– The date between Emma and Hook was fun.
– Anna getting the best of Rumple. She came off as naive in the beginning, but when the situation arose towards the end, she used her wits. When Rumple normally has the upper hand, it’s nice to see him thwarted for once.Mixed
– The Rumple and Hook subplot. On the one hand it’s fun to see these two refuel their old feud, but on the other hand Rumple is coming across as too self centered and Hook acted a bit too stupid in the way he was trying to make deals with him.
– Henry becoming Rumple’s apprentice. It’s nice to see Grandpastiltskin bonding, but he’s doing so in order to spy on Rumple for Regina. Hopefully the experience still ends up with the two getting closer and getting to know each other more.Disliked
– Not enough Snow Queen. This felt like an episode to stall the main story arc of this half of the Season.
– The hint that Anastasia/Red Queen might be dead, based on Will’s expression at the drawing of her. Considering she was revived by Nyx’s water because “it wasn’t her time”, and the fact that Wonderland’s epilogue has Alice explain to her daughter that the two are happily ruling Wonderland together as the White King and Queen, killing her off doesn’t add up. If she’s dead, what was the point of Nyx reviving her because “the White Queen was meant to move on” if she were to only die a few years later? The optimism in me is hoping she’s still alive and their separation is only temporary, but this is still a cause for alarm for the time being.Disliked
–Emma’s outfit. Don’t get me wrong. Jennifer Morrison looked good but that was NOT an Emma Swan dress. That was something Emma Swan would never wear on a date. Look at the Pilot and 312 for evidence. Emma’s not a girly girl. She doesn’t dress in lace and frippery. She likes tight jeans and plaids and boots. She looked like something out of the 1950s and Hook was the reformed bad boy in leather. I half expected them to burst into some cliche song halfway through.
Obviously this probably won’t change your opinion, but Jennifer Morrison did give a pretty thorough explanation for the style in dress via this article:
“This is the first time that Emma is wearing something that’s softer and gentler and sweeter and romantic. To me, that was really important, because I wanted it to be symbolic of something very different than the other times we’ve seen her on a date. We’ve seen her with the guy who was a perpetrator that she was after and that was a ruse, that was her just playing a character in order to catch this guy. So she sorta played the stereotypical ‘date’ look. And then we saw her on a date Walsh when she was in New York and she was still having to make her own way and she was a single mom and she was into black leather there’s something still kinda tough and edgy about that. And now, she really likes this guy and she’s very genuine about it and it needs to be something that she found in Storybrooke, because she wouldn’t have had something like that in her wardrobe, so it needs to look like it could have come from Storybrooke, but it also needs to look like something that she feels comfortable in. It’s definitely the softest, most romantic side of her and the fact that she feels safe enough and inspired to express that part of herself to him, I think was a really important thing to show.”

ModeratorKinda random for Blackbeard to be back. Does that mean the current ep could be Hook centric?
If Blackbeard’s really back, I’m guessing either A) he’s in a flashback prior to “The Jolly Roger” or B) He survived his walk off the plank. We assumed he got eaten by sharks based on what we saw, but we never actually saw the body.
