This episode hasn’t even aired and we’re going on a few pics and already my heart is breaking.
Not to mention we haven’t even gotten any sneak peaks yet!

ModeratorEvil Snow sounds a bit strong, but she will definitely drop her morals after taking so much crap. Remember the amnesia Snow from “Heart of Darkness” with a lust for wanting to kill Regina? It looks like she’ll be back, but this time for Cora! Cora did want to turn her heart black, therefore “Heart of Darkness.” Both that episode and the upcoming episode “The Miller’s Daughter” happen to be episode 16 of their respective Seasons, too! Coincidence? 😉

I’ve also considered that, and wondered if perhaps the underwater world is sort of a bridge between worlds, which is why Hook could travel through it to get from FTL to Neverland. If so, then there could be one realm for mermaids which is accessible from either side, so to speak. I think it’d complicate matters from a storytelling standpoint if they had Neverland mermaids and then somewhere else, is some other, completely different realm, have completely different mermaids. It means they’d have to establish two separate underwater realms and convince the audience that they weren’t one and the same. Given that it’s such a unique sort of environment, I think they’d wanna stick to just having one mermaid realm. And I think that the fact that there is actually a Mermaid Lagoon in Neverland is too fun of an idea for them to pass up, so they’ll have to use it. And mermaids have already been hinted at in FTL. So I think they’ll all be connected somehow.
The one thing that complicates the matter is that nobody can age in Neverland, which I assume would include the mermaids. I always assumed that if they do introduce Ariel, it will be via a flashback connecting to what Regina mentioned. That and the squid ink are still unanswered stories I would love to see. I doubt those mentions were just planted there with no further purpose in mind. Adam and Eddy have repeatedly said that they have a plan for Ariel, and they’ve hinted before that those mentions in previous episodes could connect to said plan. Though, the portal to Neverland that Hook created could have possibly brought a bunch of mermaids along for the ride, hence their existence in Neverland. Still not personally on board for Ariel being in Neverland, but all we can do now is individually theorize and wait to see the final results.

ModeratorInteresting theory if the flowers could have cured her. After all, Snow never talked to the real Blue Fairy, and she might have offered her a cure. Cora likely made up the whole “you can only use dark magic to prevent death” thing, and there was in fact an alternate solution that wouldn’t result in the death of another person. I mean, Rumple is poisoned too, and yet he is confident that magic can save him.

ModeratorI don’t think Ariel is in Neverland for several reasons. The “certain mermaid” comment that was clearly a tease for her back in “Skin Deep” strongly implies that Ariel lives in the Enchanted Forest realm, as she is another fairy tale. Peter Pan, strictly speaking, is not a fairy tale and is a separate novel of its own right. The “squid ink” mentioned back in “Into the Deep” also implies that the ink came from Ursula (half squid herself), and yet another comment about a mermaid was made when it was brought up. Just because there are mermaids in Neverland does not mean that King Triton and his own mermaids reside there.

ModeratorI need to re-watch “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter”, but doesn’t Snow say the same exact quote to her dead father that she says to her dead mother in this episode? I am of course talking about “I miss you…SO MUCH!” If I am correct in my recollection, Bailee channeled that same line perfectly.

ModeratorI read ABC’s press release concerning the ratings this Sunday, and there were a few interesting tidbits
March 4, 2013
Quick Take for Sunday, March 3, 2013
(Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)ABC Earns its Biggest Sunday Audience with Regular Programming Since December
“America’s Funniest Home Videos” is Up 7% in Adults 18-49 Over its Last Telecast
ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” Returns as Sunday’s No. 1 Broadcast with Key Women
ABC’s “Red Widow” Debut Outdraws NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” Premiere by 35%; Generates Network’s Largest Series Audience in the Time Period in 5 Months
Sunday Night (7:00-11:00 p.m.)
With “AFHV,” “Once Upon a Time” and the debut of “Red Widow,” ABC (6.9 million) earned its biggest Sunday audience with regular programming since December – since 12/2/12.“America’s Funniest Home Videos” (7:00-8:00 p.m.)
At 7:00 p.m., ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos” ran neck and neck for the lead in the hour (pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share – 1.6/5 vs. 1.7/5 for “60 Minutes”) and was up 7% in Adults 18-49 over its most recent telecast two weeks ago.“Once Upon a Time” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
Returning after a preemption for “The Oscars” the prior week, ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” built on its lead-in (+31%) to rank No. 2 in the 8 o’clock hour with viewers (7.2 million) and young adults (2.1/6), while leading the slot to finish as Sunday’s top-rated broadcast series with key Women (W18-34/W18-49).“Red Widow” (9:00-11:00 p.m.)
Head to head from 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC’s series debut of “Red Widow” drew 35% more viewers than NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” premiere (6.9 million vs. 5.1 million). Holding steady throughout its broadcast, “Red Widow” pulled in ABC’s largest series audience in the 2-hour slot since season-premiere Sunday 5 months ago – since 9/30/12.A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 47% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
While I am sure some of this is is spinned to make ABC look better, I do get the impression that they are not panicking about Once’s ratings as much as everyone else is. For one, the ratings we get do not tell us the key Women demo (W18-34/W18-49), which is the show’s targeted demo last I checked, and it apparently did number 1 with that demo on Sunday. The other key thing I noticed is that ABC flat out says that they care more about the Live + 7 ratings, which incorporates the DVR numbers. I am glad that ABC is not stuck in the past like some companies continue to be.

I think the problem mainly comes from writers that are story telling instead of placing themselves in the mind of a child. Therefor their acting becomes construed and unnatural, because it’s not what a child would say. And I urge the writers to take a look at a BBC comedy series called ‘Outnumbered’ where they don’t write lines, just basic situations, and then let the kid actors loose with their own fantasy and let them react in their own words as the adults who play their parents have to react on that. it makes some some of the funniest comedy ever, like when Karen, the little daughter compares voting for goverment to an Idols finale where everyone has to dial in their vote and at the end the prime minister goes BOOHOO I won. And her disappointment and annoyment when dad tells he that’s not quite that way. “They should”.
Point is, it’s kids language. And it comes across far more natural, because the kids understand their role better.I can completely see what you mean. Much of Henry’s dialogue sounds more like how an adult would talk, not a kid. It’s only natural that it wouldn’t always sound right coming out of his mouth. Then again, it could be intentional. After all, Henry has been described as a very smart kid for his age many times on the show.

ModeratorI should apologize and make my stance clearer, and I was a tad too harsh on Jared. No I don’t think Jared is the worst child actor out there, but he’s not the best either. Personally, I’m mixed with him. Sometimes he can be great, but sometimes he could have been a bit better. While at times it is definitely the writing and directing that impact his performance, there have been a few times where his delivery seems a bit off (the way he speaks his dialogue). Granted, child actors are not going to have as much experience as their adult counterparts simply because they are younger and have been acting for a smaller amount of time. I really didn’t make it up when I said I’ve read several comments elsewhere not being too huge on Jared’s performance, including professional reviewers. Of course, Henry’s character itself gets a lot of undeserved hate in general. I give mad props to Jared for trying his best and I’m sure he’ll continue to improve. However, the point of my original comment is that I still found Bailee Madison to be a better actor by comparison, and I mean that she is exceptionally good for her child acting. Still, nobody’s perfect, and I apologize again if my previous comment sounded too mean on Jared.

Didn’t they say recently that we wouldn’t see the adoption this season? 😕
Yep, we wouldn’t. Adam and Eddy also said that the episode would specifically take place during the first week of the curse in 1983. Henry wouldn’t even be born for another 18 years. However, we’re supposed to see how Regina decides she wants a kid of her own. I do hope we get the full Henry adoption story by at least next Season, and maybe even see his first 10 years living there.
