ParticipantI have to call it a day Schmacky. Got to be able to get up in the morning.
But I thoroughly enjoyed debating with you. It was much fun. Thank you and G’night 😀[adrotate group="5"]December 5, 2012 at 10:56 pm in reply to: QUEEN OF HEARTS — FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #163861Grimmsister
ParticipantYes in your opinion. And I think that is where we will have to agree to disagree because my opinion is the oppossite. We can’t be the moral judges 🙂 We disagree, but that’s okay.
Why can’t we be the judge of it? Think of a court of law. You are judged by your peers. If we don’t then who does?
Again this is legally, where I speak of morally.

Morally are there a difference between bad-just as bad ?
Yes, there’s a difference. OK I’m gonna try and make it simple in the bad vs. just as bad.
Using the word “as” is a direct comparison. Saying one thing is to the same degree, amount, or extent of another thing.
For example if someone who is 6′ they can say “I am tall.” But they can’t say “I am just as tall as Tim” when Tim is 7 feet tall.
That’s the difference. Standing by while something bad happens could be a bad thing morally. But it’s not as bad as the person that committed the crime.
Okay. I see that granted. But how are we or enyone to judge how ‘bad’ somebody is…. I don’t think we can do that. I think that was my point from the start. It’s also about how alot of people say Regina (back to her example) needs to do this and this and this and THEN she will have redeemed or made amends for her actions, but seriously… we can’t be the judges of this. Thats my opinion.

The one thing I like most about this show is that there is no concrete “Bad” and “Good” when it comes to people (actions, yes, people overall, no). Rumple manipulated hundreds and caused the curse for a very human reason: to find his son. Regina enacted the curse because of a deep-seated pain born of a lifetime of emotional abuse from Cora. But we’ve seen both of these “bad characters” do good things. Regina is trying to be better, and we’ve seen Gold help Henry. Yet we’ve seen good people do “bad” things as well. I mean it wasn’t that long ago that Snow almost put an arrow through Mulan’s neck and left Aurrura to Cora just so she could get back to charming.
What this all boils down to to me, is empathy or the lack of.
The characters people usually characterize as “good” are able to put themselves in others position at least most of the time. In “We are both” Charming wants nothing better then to run after Jefferson so he could fix the hat and get Emma and Snow back, but he stops when Red reminds him that “the town needs him.” He puts the needs of the many above what he wanted.
Now think of all Rumple has done, much for the same reason. He wants Bae back, but in the process he has torn apart how many family? Condemning them to the same agony he felt when he let go of Bae.
But then doesn’t that become the concrete difference between the good and the bad ? whether they can put themselves in other peoples positions or not ?

Yeah, legally and morally, I highly disagree that they’re the same thing.
Question 1: Are they just as bad?
Question 2: Are they bad?See the difference?
Yes!
But then the difference is I’m thinking morally and not legally.
Morally are there a difference between bad-just as bad ? how doo you judge how bad ‘just as bad’ is???
I for sure don’t know.December 5, 2012 at 10:03 pm in reply to: QUEEN OF HEARTS — FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #163851Grimmsister

No, you’re right. 😉 I’m just not exactly sure what your point is. It sounds like you’re playing a game of “what if?” with this particular debate.
Well in a way I am, I suppose 😀 I love games.

Guys, please do not engage in this imaginary debate. 😆 The Charmings saved Regina in the end, and that’s all that matters.
Why not.. If we find it interesting ??
I’m not. I will point out again.. Judging anybodys opinions. All views are very welcome.. 😀December 5, 2012 at 9:54 pm in reply to: QUEEN OF HEARTS — FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #163844Grimmsister

Does that then also classify A and B as ‘bad’ or where they right not too help, because they had been hurt by C ?
That’s not the original question you asked though. You asked if they would be just as bad. And no, they wouldn’t be. Would it be wrong, morally, to stand by and do nothing when you can? Yes.
Which is why the “good guys” always choose not to stand by. Because it would be morally wrong.
THAT IS the same question !!!!???
How do you mean it’s not?December 5, 2012 at 9:51 pm in reply to: QUEEN OF HEARTS — FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #163842Grimmsister
Participant@Schmacky wrote:
edit: Like I had said originally, they would have been guilty of just standing by. But to actually say to stand by IS THE EXACT SAME CRIME as actually doing it is so far beyond incorrect I can’t express proper words for it. (edit: IMO of course)
I’m not saying that they should resieve the same punishment in the legal system, if we should take it there, the law should differentiate between the two I agree.
But morally I actually do believe, it is exactly the same to stand by and watch a bad thing happen if you KNOW FOR A FACT you can stop it, as it is too be holding ‘the murder weapon…December 5, 2012 at 9:45 pm in reply to: QUEEN OF HEARTS — FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #163837Grimmsister
ParticipantThanks for your quick answers Elle and Schmacky 🙂
Okay, but can we try and see the situation without getting our opinions of the actual characters involved just as an experiment.
Say there are three people A,B and C.
C has done something bad and horrible to hurt A and B, so C is classified as ‘the bad one’.
One day A and B sees that C is in trouble and will get hurt if they dont doo something too stop it. A and B knows for a fact that they will be able to help if they choose too.
They choose not too…..
Does that then also classify A and B as ‘bad’ or where they right not too help, because they had been hurt by C ? -
