I like the Oz theory and the Peter Pan one. I just want him to be someone else and not one of the obvious ones like Pinocchio or Bae.
*High Five* ๐ I just don’t want him to be Pinocchio. For the writers to make us wait this long to reveal who the stranger is, he should be someone very important or powerful. It’s taken all season to finally learn who this man is, and I want it to be something big.

ParticipantAugust came into town with an agenda and with full awareness that the book exists. He road into town with an old fashioned typewriter strapped to his bike which I believe he intended to use to makes changes to the book. How does August know about the book and why would his character want to change it? How would making changes to the book further the agenda of say Pinocchio, The Wizard of Oz, Bae, or Peter Pan?
When broken down, his namesโ meanings are:
August: “lordly” or “venerated.”
Wayne: โwagon / cart builder or driver”. I also think of the word WANE: to decrease in strength, intensity 2. to decline in power, importance, prosperity,
Booth: Herald / From the Market Stall / typical dwelling place of a cowherd or shepherd / Herdsman
What does his name tell us and does it somehow tie into Pinocchio, The Wizard of Oz, Bae, or Peter Pan?
I just keeping thinkingโฆ.
On a side note, I would not care much for August being Pinocchio, but it keeps pointing in that direction (BOOOOO). In the Grimm’s version of Pinocchio, Pinocchio’s leg gets hurt when he is a donkey, that is how he gets cast into the sea.
Hmm, well since the name “August” means “great” or “lordly,” coupled with the fact that numerous kings throughout European history have been named August, it makes me think that he’s some sort of king, tzar or prince.

@mujie I think the curse just affects people differently. The whole point of it is to take away everyone’s happy endings, and everyone’s happy ending is different.
Why wouldn’t the Wizard of Oz remember who he was? Regina remembers because she enacted the curse. Jefferson remembers because if he didn’t he’d be another rich, single guy living it up in a huge house. Rumple/Gold remembers because if he didn’t he’d also be another mean, rich guy living it up from “owning” the town. With their memories, they’re all just as miserable as everyone else. That could be part of the Wizard’s curse: To remember everything and not be able to find his own way home. It could be the reason he just came to town out of nowhere.
Regina wanted to control everything. The Dark Curse takes the bidding of that who enacts it. Yet why would Regina really want to put Oz through that? Why would she do that to Oz? I’d think it more likely to do that to the Queen of Hearts. The rules of Storybrooke seem to be that you keep your last personality from your previous life. The Mad Hatter was lost, and he stayed lost, 8 episodes after August appeared. He was still in Storybrooke. If August was lost, he would stay lost.
Because she’s the Evil Queen! ๐ She does evil things. It’s in her name! ๐
And no, you don’t always keep your same personality if you remember. Mr. Gold is the eprfect example. Even though both of his personas are evil, his characterization is COMPLETELY different.

Giving the Wizard actual powers wouldn’t work in the context of the original Oz story…the fact that he is in real life a “humbug” is a major plot point in the book.
Once again, the writers always change the original stories. ALWAYS. None of the characters on this show are like their original Grimm persona. The writers always tweak them to make them fit into the show. ๐

Has anyone ever noticed that Rumplestiltskin always tells the truth?
Hmm, I think you’re right. I’ll have to go back and watch his scenes, but you might be right. He always upholds his deals though. ๐

This is an amazing theory! ….I sadly have one flaw….
This could be interpreted as two powerful sorcerers battling off to see who is the most powerful.
The Wizard of Oz was an ordinary man. He was a liar, cowardly hiding behind a mask that only made him appear powerful. Like Dorothy he was born in Kansas, and was brought to Oz by a runaway hot air balloon. In the end he offers to take Dorothy home in the same balloon, leaving the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion in charge of the Emerald City. But the writers have tweaked stories. They could have him get actual magic somehow.
I was kind of hoping that the writers would tweak the story a little bit and give Oz actual powers. This show tends to throw a lot of curve balls at us. ๐

Wow… I think you may have nailed it. I also saw Tin Man’s oil can on one of Gold’s shelves in episode 1×16 Heart of Darkness.
Oh, really? ๐ฎ I must have missed it! Good catch! Ugh! Please let him be Oz.

I have a feeling they want Henry’s father to come to Storybrooke. You don’t have a scene that means absolutely nothing, and the only reason I can think of Emma telling Mary Margret that Henry’s dad wasn’t such a good guy would be that Henry’s dad is coming to Storybrooke at some point in the story.
Now, August is probably going to be the only stranger in Storybrooke for a long time. Which means he was somewhat in the same position as Emma. I doubt they’ll do that for someone else.
Which means, if they were to bring Henry’s dad to Storybrooke, the only logical choice would be August. He’s the only person in Storybrooke who could possibly be Henry’s dad at the moment. Maybe they won’t say that specifically in series 1, but I’m sure of it.
There isn’t enough plastic surgery in the world that could make Emma not recognize the father of her child. Even if it’s been 10 years, the father of your only child isn’t someone you easily forget. Trust me, the writers will bring in Henry’s real father later on in the series, just not now. It’s only season 1.

You know what would be bad a**, the season finale an actual “storm” comes and there’s a tornado (even though it’s Maine) and the tornado takes everyone to a different world and season 2 we start over, except we’re in the new world, whether it be Neverland, Wonderland, etc. They could do that at the end of each season and theyre always trying to break the curse so it stops and they go back to FTL.
Woah, I kind of just have myself the chills. I don’t know if the characters would have their knowledge of everything or have to regain it but that seems like it would be very original and could keep the series going. And also introduce all the other characters in the different worlds.
I would love for that to happen!!! We need to see more worlds. There’s of course, Fairytale land, Storybrooke, Wonderland, but then there’s Oz and Neverland. Future seasons are going to be amazing.

Thanks for starting this excellent thread, dearie, whoops, I mean Dreary!
LOL!!! ๐ ๐ ๐ Very clever!
I just don’t want him to be Pinicchio. I’d hate for the writers to make us wait all season just to find out that he’s Pinocchio. But if he is Pinocchio, then I hope he has a very interesting backstory to tell. I’ll try not to judge before watching the actual episode. Everyone thought Rumpel would be terrible as the Beast, but then…BOOM!!! FANGIRL EXPLOSION!!! ๐ ๐ ๐
So, the Pinocchio storyline might actually work I trust the writers. ๐
