Hello everyone!
So far, Rumpelstiltskin has been my absolute favorite. I loved him at the beginning of the season when he was just his usual creepy, giggling old self, but I fell head over hills in love with his character after watching Desperate Souls and Skin Deep.
I’m loving everyone’s theories on Rumpelstiltskin! My only hope for his character is that he helps defeat Regina and is reunited with Belle. If those two things happen, my life will be complete.
Welcome to the forums!
Desperate Souls and Skin Deep were two very pivotal episodes for Rumpel’s character. We finally got a glimpse behind the psychotic behavior and strange giggles and into the man underneath. Along with Heart of Darkness, Desperate Souls and Skin Deep are my favorite episodes. Very emotional and very informative.

ParticipantWelcome to the forums Beauty & the Beast!
P.S. I love your username. 😀
And no, you’re not crazy for loving Belle. I love her too. 😀
And I agree that Belle isn’t directly connected to the curse, but I do like your theory that Rumpel became obsessed with bottling true love after Belle’s supposed “death.” It makes sense. If Mr. Gold was willing to murder a man over a chipped cup, it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to assume that he’s also created spells inspried by her.

IWhere did you hear that she will be back in Season 2?
I heard that rumor from somewhere too. I’m not sure where though. I’ll try to search for the link.
I hope it’s true. I really like Belle and we’ve yet to really delve into Belle’s character. We’re nearing the end of the season and the show still hasn’t addressed the fact that she’s still alive and in an asylum. If they haven’t addressed it by now, then something tells me that her storyline is going to spill over into season 2.

ParticipantActually, if you surf the entire fandom, you’ll find that Rumpel and Belle are EXTREMELY popular. Robert Carlyle even commented on it in a recent interview. He talks about the fan’s response towards the end of the video.

The only people who don’t seem to like it are those who ship Rumpel with Emma or those who never really liked Rumpel to begin with. It’s kind of difficult to estimate the level of popularity of certain characters with just one site.

ParticipantWait a minute. He’s rich and he also has a limp (a fake one, buy hey). Dude, I’m telling ya, the Mad Hatter is Rumpel’s son. I’M CALLIN IT!!!

ParticipantI don’t really view Rumpel abandoning the war as am act of cowardice. The Ogre wars had been raging for decades and had claimed many innocent lives. To be honest, I think Rumpel did the right thing in fleeing. Why remain in a war that’s claiming the lives of so many people? And speaking to you as the sister of a man who’s been sent into combat on numerous occasions, I sympathize with Rumpel’s decision. Most people have no idea about the truly shocking horrors that war brings. Killing, torturing, always being on the run, always fearing for your life…it’s not something that most people can fully comprehend. We’ve been brought up to believe that if we abondon a war (no matter how dumb it is) that we’re cowards. This isn’t always the case. The Ogre wars had gotten so bad that innocent children were being recruited to fight in die in it. Why wouldn’t Rumpel run away from that? I would. These wars are the Fairytale land equivilent of World War II.
Rumpel has nothing to be ashamed of.

I don’t accept that Rumpel wasn’t evil before he became the Dark One. We just haven’t seen enough. I agree that evil isn’t born, but is made, but i still that that Rumpel was more evil before then the queen will seem before whatever happened to her. I do think that it is likely Regina killed her mother.
Why do you think Rumpel was evil before he became the Dark One? I know there’s still a lot to learn about him, but as far as the origins of his evil, I’m pretty sure it began when he became the Dark One. We have to remember that most of these characters started out as humans. And yes, humans do horrible things, but I doubt Rumpel did anything that terrible before he became the Dark One. He was poor, desperate and in his own words a “coward.” In the OUAT, evil is defined as something unspeakably horrible or violent, and to be honest, I don’t think pre-Dark One Rumpel fits that definition. Even during the war, Rumpel couldn’t have been evil because he ran away from warfare. So, he didn’t even get to kill anyone.

ParticipantI’ve always been suspicious of that scene. I’ve always questioned whether or not Mr. Gold knew exactly who Emma was in that scene. He seemed to be famiiar with her. The way he said her name indicated familiarity on his part. Hmm, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I think that it has to be Belle in the real world and not the fairytale world because we know that Rumpel is not aware that Belle is alive as of now so i think that may mean that something happens where someone finds out about Belle. Though we may just hear a conversation between Belle and Regina. There are a lot of possibilities. Though i do not think that we are going to have a happily ever after for Belle and Rumpel. For some reason i don’t see that happening at least not long term.
I see Belle and Rumpel having a happy ending, just not right now. It’s too soon, and their reunion is more fit for the series finale as oppesed to the season 1 finale. However, I’m worried about Belle’s current feelings toward Rumpel. I have a feeling Regina has brainwashed Belle into hating Rumpel. 😥
