We heard Rumpelstiltskin/Mr. Gold refer to himself as still being the “dark one” and yet magic didn’t make him look like a reptile in SB. Does the curse work differently since magic here is different? Also, we saw the much-anticipated kiss between Belle and Rumpel, but it didn’t affect his power as the dark one. Why do you think this is?
It’s my opinion that Mr. Gold does not have his powers back, that is why he does not look like the Rumple of old, and that is why he can kiss Belle and not lose his powers (since he does not have powers). He, like anyone, can use magically objects, like the wraith medallion and the Dark One’s dagger, but he does not “have” magic in him. I’m sure he is not too concerned about this at the moment, as others have pointed out that his shop is probably full of magical items. This is also why his castle in FTL was full of magical objects from other magical humans and creatures. He had already had a long range plan of gathering these objects and having them nearby (along with the true love potion) for when the curse was in-acted, and everyone would be sent to a non-magical place.
Going forward, if Emma does touch Mr. Gold, he will get his powers & gold appearance back (for a period of time). I still don’t think her touch is a permanent recharging of one’s magical abilities, only a temporary charge (like charging a battery). If Emma does touch Mr. Gold, then he becomes powerful again, but also susceptible to permanently losing his powers if kissed by his true love, Belle. Although, I’m sure Gold won’t let himself be kissed until his agenda of revenge against his enemies is complete, and he has his son by his side.

mikeParticipantIf, he is Victor Frankenstein (that’s Fronk-en-steen), then the twist will be that his creation was a female, a mate for him. It could explain his issues with women.
mikeParticipantThanks for all your comments. I will be re-watching episodes from season one in hopes of finding additional clues. I just sense that, although Rumple has has long-term agenda of finding his son, that there must be someone (the Blue Fairy) that has even a bigger, longer-term agenda. It just makes for a more interesting story, and its an agenda that benefits all.
Question, in The Shepard, was it mentioned by King Midas, or a knight, that the dragon they needed to slay was the last of its kind, or was it just a dragon that was terrorizing King Midas’ kingdom?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how they have made such a big deal about the curse taking away everyone’s happy endings in SB but really, no one seemed to be too happy in FTL. I have wondered about them doing something really bizarre and having them have Regina and Rumple be redeemed and have everything “end” happily in SB, but then Emma’s final act as The Savior would be use their redemption and her own magic to somehow change the way things were back in FTL and give everyone their happily ever after back in FTL as well. So that would mean that Snow’s mother wouldn’t die young, Regina would be able to marry Daniel and wouldn’t get stuck with Snow’s father so neither Daniel nor Snow’s father would die, neither James nor his brother would have to go pretend to be the King’s son, Rumple would never become the Dark One so he wouldn’t lose Bae, etc. Most importantly Snow and Charming would still “find each other” so Emma would still be “re-born” as the Savior but her parents would actually get to raise her. When we find out who Henry’s dad is (I’m hoping he is from FTL) he and Emma would still end up together in FTL so Henry would still be born but not in a jail and would be raised by his parents in a happy home (not one where he is convinced his mother is the Evil Queen). So Emma would “kind of” choose to sacrifice herself because she would choose to give up the life she has lived up to that point for everyone else’s ultimate happiness (including Regina and Rumple’s), but she would do so knowing that she would be reborn into better life to be raised with her real parents and knowing she will be able to raise her son from birth as well. So the Fairy Tales would, once again, be changed from how we originally thought we knew them. We would see Emma sacrifice herself and “die” and then brief flashes of the changed lives of each of the characters, until we get to Snow and Charming with baby Emma and then maybe flash forward to her as an older child meeting whoever Henry’s father is. End of series.
I totally see your theory being the ending of the series. I mentioned something similar in another thread, about Emma getting another chance at life in FTL, something like a reset for her (and everyone else), so that they all have their happy endings in FTL. I was told that it didn’t make sense (?).
I have a feeling that this is what Rumple/Gold’s ultimate, long-term plan is, and maybe only one or two people will have memories of the curse and SB, once everything is reset.

I could see them killing off many characters along the way so it’s not like everyone dies in one big THING either.
Sounds a little too much like Lost, with characters dropping off like flies each season. Unlike Lost however, this show has answered questions, and hopefully won’t kill off characters for the sake of shock and awe. I believe this series is about Hope and Love, and I think Kitsis and Horowitz have learned much from their experiences working on Lost. Plus, hindsight is 20/20, and it appears to me that they may have come to regret killing Graham, as they brought back this fan favorite in the finale.
Although the series seems to have a fixed end date (I believe the producers want 5 or 6 seasons), similar to Lost, I believe there are more family viewers, making killing off beloved characters a turn-off to young and old, and would drive down viewership. I’m sure the producers are hip to that.
mikeParticipantHere is a great Rumple and Belle video, to Lost music, called: Rumpelstiltskin & Belle – I Remember

Since when? #147550mikeParticipantSo, if Regina knew (for sometime) that Emma was Snow’s daughter, then she also knew that Henry is Snow’s grandson. I would have liked to have seen Regina’s face the moment she realized that her adopted son was Snow’s grandson. That would have been a great moment. Maybe we will see that moment (flashback) in season two.

My predictions are three central stories:
1) Rumple and Belle’s grand search for Bae across time and space! This can be any realm, any time, any place. Nonnie: I really like your idea about Mulan in China. So long as there is a talking lizard (travel sized for Mulan’s connivence because if he was his real size her “cow” would die of fright)2) Storybrook good guys vs. Regina. I’m betting Regina has got her powers back and it’s all out war with Emma leading the charge for the good guys! (which side will Doctor Whale be on…) We will also meet new FTL characters here and their stories will sometimes take away from what SW and Charming are doing in FTL before the curse.
3) Snow White and Charming’s war against Regina and George in FTL.
The season ends with Regina, if not fully defeated, then humbled, SW and Charming having taken back both kingdoms and planning their wedding, and Rumple/Belle/Bae retuning to Storybrook ready to take everyone home. Only problem: first they have to kill Emma.
I like your three running themes for season two, great job.
I agree with the themes. I think Bae will be introduced, but in the second half of the season, after the purple dust has settled, and people get use to having their memories back. Like others have suggested, I believe Bae to be Henry’s biological dad, and his arrival in town will have a significant impact on everyone.
In regards to your second theme, I believe that Emma (the product of True Love – the most powerful magic) will begin to display magical abilities, due to the fact magic can now exist in SB. Being the product of True Love may make her more powerful than anyone/anything (definite Star Wars themes here). This is exactly what Rumple wanted, as she still owes him that favor. She may end up powerful enough to return everyone to FTL.
