ParticipantIndeed, thanks wackyoncer for the link. Nice review.
Slept on my first impression two nights and rewatched the show, but impression hasn’t changed much. This episode is on my list of worst episodes of this series, and consider to put it on my list of worst episodes of a TV show I’ve ever watched. The main reason is the writing, acting and photography were okay, they made the best of the little given to them. But I make it simple for the moment and just give a fav and least fav list.
least favorite moments:
– well, pretty much most of the episode, because so many things didn’t work for me as narrative, but particular the whole story of “Robin Hood and the Wand”;
– Greg and Tamara – shoo, go away! I still find the idea, outsiders from our world coming to town and how they react to magic and fairy tale characters and maybe are or become a threat, really interesting, but Greg and Tamara don’t do it for me. I couldn’t care less about the characters and their scenes. Think it was too early for such a story.
favorite moments:
– Lacey at the Rabbit Hole. Sassy. I like that character, despite that she might be too much attracted to the bad and powerful, but assuming that this personality is not coming totally out of the blue but drawing from excisting traits, twisting them maybe a little and bringing out what otherwise would be surpressed, it makes Belle as well more interesting.
– Regina and Gold at the mayor’s office. Classy banter. Evil snarky mayor Regina Mills, a pleasure. That scene saved the night for me.

ParticipantNot sure, which ep this is from, but she wore that grey jacket at least in Desperate Soul (1×08) and Red-Handed (1×15)

Participantmaybe should rename this topic to “Timeline discussion” 😉
But to chime in ….
To me it looks less and less likely, that the tally marks give away, how long Belle was prisoner of Regina before the curse. We don’t even know if she made the marks or someone else did.
Concerning the wand. Doubt they would use the same prop without it being the same wand. A different colored handle could have been done in no time, and they had already other wands, see Gold’s dream sequence. So I think it is safe to assume, the wand Robin Hood stole is the wand of Cinderella’s fairy godmother. Otherwise that would be a big mess up. That are things prop department absolutely has to keep track of.
It’s possible, that the wand got stolen and nevertheless after the curse ended up in Gold’s shop, but as likely Rumple got it back already in the Enchanted Forest before the curse happened.
Interesting eventually for discussing order / timeline of events, although no the least helpful: If you compare pictures of the room in the castle, there are a few changes. About where the sofa stands, on which Belle sits reading a book when Rumple discovers that Hood is gone, we can see in “Skin Deep” the spinning wheel. The spinning wheel stands here in “Lacey” close to the exit to the entry hall, on the other side of the room, near the covered mirror. The wand is on display next to the sword, the sword we can see as well in “Deep Skin”, but to its right there you see the wooden puppets (Geppetto’s parents). Looks like Rumple liked to do some redecoration every other day 😉 (think in this case they did mess up and produced a classical continue error, like they already did with Neal’s apartment IMO)
@RumplesGirl wrote:
1) Rumple kills Fairy Godmother and takes wand (maybe 3 or 4 years before Curse)
2) Rumple brings Belle to his castle (3 or 4 yrs BC)
3) Robin Hood shows up to take Wand and the events of Lacey (3 yrs BC)
4) Events of Skin Deep and the Outsider (2 years before curse??!?!?!?!?!) (I hate these markings on Belle’s cell with each passing moment of typing this comment)
5) Regina tells Rumple that Belle is dead (2 years before curse?)
6) Thomas and Cinderella marry (one year before Curse)
7) Cinderella is pregnant (7 ish months before curse)
8) Rumple is captured (7 ish months before curse)
9) CURSEThink we can agree on the order of events, what is unclear is the time it took. Years or maybe just months, leaning towards the latter. Cinderella’s pregnancy might indeed give a reference. Some women do show early, but think it’s less likely that she was in her first trimester, more likely second, close to third trimester eventually. If 7 months or maybe only 3 months before curse might not make such a difference in the timeline, but think Rumple was in captivity less than half a year.
Adam Horowitz stated on Twitter, that Snow was about 4 weeks pregnant at Ella’s wedding. Hmmm. Well. If he says so. That would mean, Ella must have become pregnant shortly after her wedding, maybe a months or two. That kinda narrows the time Rumple was in captivity down more.
That makes it more likely, that between Rumple killing Ella’s fairy godmother and her wedding some more time went by than just a few days, despite what common fairy tale logic might suggest.
Whatever. The little imp must have been very, very busy the last couple of months before the curse. Well, that happens when you lollygag for some hundred of years, you then have to work overtime to meet the deadline. 😆
The Evil Queen must have been quite busy as well, but what do you expect, evil fairy tale queen, probably spend more time finding the right wardrobe to look devilishly good than plotting her revenge. 😉
Who has no headaches by now? 😕
It can work. I guess. (And feeling an itch to hang up a huge piece of paper on the wall of my living room and start to draw a timeline, a few things still are done better in old fashion analog ways. Uhm, where and when does the group for “OUaT fans gone crazy” meet?)
(And the more I look at the story of “Robin Hood and the Wand” the more it looks like the black hole of plot holes, starting small but its gravity swallowing more and more of the show, becoming the mouth of writers’ hell) 😈

Participantenjoy … 😈
Gold: “He’s got my eyes, don’t you think?”
(puppy eyes to die for)Gold: “And apparently fate has a sense of humor.”
(no kidding)Regina: “If your own son couldn’t bring out the good in you, who will?”
(to copy K&H: That is a good question, keep watching) 🙄Belle: “I have a sense about people.”
(might not keep you from losing your mind)Rumple: “But the crying must stop. Night after night. It’s making it very difficult for me to spin. You know, I do my best thinking then.”
(now we know who coined the term spin doctor) 😮Rumple: “No, no, no. It’s not to help you sleep, dearie. It’s to muffle the cries so I can get back to work.”
(cushion against annoying sad reality)Robin Hood: “Don’t you just love magic?”
(good example for rhetorical question, unless your name is Neal and you’re kinda allergic to magic)Emma: “Uhm, Anton, don’t take this the wrong way, but w… w… why… why are you so…”
Anton: “Small? Cora. She and Regina brought some magic to make me human-sized. Kind of like it.”
(well, he wanted to be friends with humans – alarm, someone is close to have a happy ending) 😛Grumpy: “Enough lollygagging! Back to it!”
Anton: “Wow. Dwarves really like to work.”
(Now you notice) 😯Emma: “What about ogres and destruction and danger?”
(nothing an idealistic hero can’t handle)
David: “We can fix all that. We did it before. We can do it again.”
(see, told you; get the tools out, guys, we’re going to fix everything)
Mary Margaret: We can start over, Emma.
(why fix anything, let’s do a reboot)Mary Margaret: “Not my mind. My heart. Afer what I did to Cora, I think restoring our land is the best way to mend it.”
(don’t settle with anything less, think big, big heart.)Bartender (to Gold): “Really not a fan of the Rabbit Hole, are ya?”
(Rabbit Holes lead to strange and tricky places, ask Alice) :geek:Gold: “Brown hair. Beautiful blue eyes. An accent you wouldn’t soon forget. Her name is Belle.”
Bartender: Belle? Are… are you sure? ‘Cause that sounds an awful hell like Lacey.”
Gold: “Who the h_ell is Lacey?”
(what’s in a name? but that accent, unforgettable)Mr. Clark (Sneezy): “Her name should be “Fast Eddie,” ’cause she’s a hustler. She’s hustling me.”
(that on Sunday prime time TV? Oh dear… 😮 Reference to the movie The Hustler from 1961 with Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Felson; Newman later played the same character in the 1986 film The Color of Money)Lacey (to Mr. Gold): “Now, if you’ll excuse me, you’re kinda in my shot.”
(get out of the way, Mr Gold, and give this woman a chance to be herself ;))Rumple: “No, because he tried to steal from me, the Dark One. You try that, you get skinned alive. Everyone knows that.”
Belle: “Actually, no, they don’t.”
Rumple: “Well, they will after they discover the body.”
(someone has to work on his reputation, get a better PR manager)Regina: “I’m sorry. Do I look like a one-handed pirate with a pistol?”
(is it Halloween again?)Regina: “There’s the charm that should easily woo a lovely young lady. She’ll most certainly fall in love with you at first sight. Oh, wait. That didn’t happen, did it?”
(there is the snark that made us love the Evil Queen so much) 😎Granny: “Ten bowls of chili. No Beans. You and the dwarves got something against beans?”
David:” Oh, let’s just say we’ve had our fill over the past couple weeks.”
(besides that beans never are a good idea for a party)Grumpy: “Just a little landscaping”
(a couple of beanstalks on a field really are not much more than that)Gold: “No, no. Wrong memories. She now thinks she’s a scantily clad barfly named Lacey. She has a false life, as you did under the curse with Kathryn, only hers apparently involves a lot more alcohol.”
(not the woman you thought she is)Gold: “Well, I’m certainly not here for the overpraised lasagna.”
(there should be no episode without mentioning lasagna) 💡David: “Show her the man she fell in love with.”
(so become Dark One Rumplestiltskin again)Rumple: You read too many books, dearie! (vanishes book Belle was reading) There, maybe that’ll stop filling your head with poisonous thoughts.”
(books are dangerous, thoughts are dangerous…)Rumple: “People who steal magic never have good intentions!”
(talking about yourself, Rumple?)Belle: “No. You can’t tell what’s in a person’s heart until you truly know them.”
(she was quicker in judging Hook, was she)Lacey: “Well, what can I say? I love the ambiance.”
(always a good reason to return)Lacey: “You’re a Hagar man, aren’t you?”
(and Gold has no idea what she’s talking about, as probably some teenagers are pretty clueless as well – Sammy Hagar, singer in the band Van Halen from 1986-96 and from 2003-2005) :ugeek:David: “Not bad, Don Juan.”
Gold: “Don Juan was nothing before he made his deal with me.”
(ah, another deal, Faustian) 😈Emma: “Well, I was going to tell you, but I was kind of busy trying to stop you and your mother from killing me and my entire family.”
(summing up this season for Emma) 🙄Emma: “Unlike you the rest of the world isn’t always scheming to get what they want.”
(I wouldn’t be so sure about that, conspiracies are everywhere)Granny: “What the h_ell happened to you? You raid the back of Ruby’s closet?”
(know a number of people who would like to)Rumple: “Good help these days is really hard to find.”
(so true)Belle: “I think that you are not as dark as you want people to believe. I think that deep down there’s love in your heart. And for something more than power.”
(pfff, they anticipated my thoughts, but, you know, love is power, or power is love, it’s all the same)
Rumple: “You’re right, there is something I love. My things!”
Belle: “You really are as dark as people say.”
Rumple: “No, darker, dearie. Much darker.”
(Can she make up her mind? Dark, not as dark, dark, not as dark…)Gold: “You know, I’ve tried so hard to be on my best behavior. But I guess there’s no point now.”
(epiphany)Rumple: “Temper your excitment, dearie, this is merely another room for you to clean.”
(and there I thought books are meant to gather dust and cobwebs)Rumple: “Well I hope you can clean faster than you can read.”
(the advantage of audiobooks: you can clean and kinda read at the same time!)Belle: “You’re not who I thought you were. And I’m glad.”
(bad guy, not so bad guy …)Lacey: “You are… you are not who I thought you were. And I’m glad. You really are as dark as people say.”
Gold: “Darker, Dearie.”
(…nice guy, bad guy again – the big bad always has a certain charm)Emma: “What, did you tranquilize him?”
Neal: I just gave him a couple bourbons. Kid’s a real lightweight.”
(as long as it’s all fun nothing weights)Neal (about August) “You know, I gotta say, he’s actually a lot cooler as a kid. Steals less of my money.”
money coming from honestly stolen goods stolen by a notorious liar, yeah, that is so uncool)Tamara: “Because if there’s one person you can always count on to do your dirty work… it’s a pirate.”
(for a pirate a good reputation – with Hook though you should count on him messing it up and getting tied up somehow)¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
