ParticipantDidn’t find that curious. Agree, that the scene with the seer happened shortly after the moment with the Blue Fairy, but it wasn’t all repetitive for Rumple. When the seer talked about it will be a curse Rumple was indeed slightly impatient, because he already knew, but he wanted to know more about it, and he got some more details. Details, that for us as audience by the way proved, that the seer foretold what we know later happened – thus what she said at the end about the boy could have a stronger impact. What the seer says will happen, in some way, maybe not quite the way Rumple or many of us assume, but it will happen.

ParticipantMaybe it’s not just the power of names (it’s widespread in mythology and folk and fairy tales, that knowing the true name of someone or something gives you power about this someone or that something, not just in the tale of Rumplestiltskin) but the power of the written word as well. Something carved in stone is unchangeable, the pen is mightier than the sword, the written name and even more one’s signature are a symbol representing our selves. The written word is something enduring. We take what is written more as fact than just spoken words. What is written is more respected but also less forgiven.
Yes, they let the audience and fans get crazy about what was in the box, what August had shown Neal that it was so convincing in a second. We had high expectations, so many are disappointed now.
I love though the simplicity of it. Just this sentence, the name typed on paper was enough to convince Neal to listen. I don’t care if that was their idea from the beginning and they just had some fun to let us run into wrong directions or if they made it up later. The idea is ingenious.
Mind, this show at the beginning worked with the idea of a boy taking for real and important what was written in a book. The power of the dagger of the Dark One is symbolized by that the name of the one being the Dark One at the moment is written on its blade. Writing down Emma’s name numerous times on paper with magical ink was probably part of the enchantment for Rumple to regain his memory the very moment he met Emma and heard her name spoken out loud in Storybrooke. And the library of Storybrooke is a recurring set on the show – and not just because of Belle.

One thing I don’t think anyone has brought up is the possibility of breaking Rumple’s curse as the Dark One via outright destroying the dagger. In “The Return”, Rumple even tells August that he can destroy the dagger. Perhaps Henry destroys the dagger, or Rumple ends up destroying the dagger himself to protect Henry? If the dagger can in fact be destroyed, not only would Rumple likely be cured, but nobody else would be able to become the new Dark One. The dagger could also be similar to the One Ring from Lord of the Rings, where it can only be destroyed via a certain way, which would present another challenge.
Yes, mentioned that idea here a few days ago. Thanks for bringing it up again.
Sometimes it’s so hard to see the simple solution, because we’re all fixated on other things that have been put so prominently in front of our eyes. It’s selective attention (maybe some of you have heard of the invisible gorilla, otherwise go watch this video). Not just talking about us fans but about the characters as well.
Possible someone did try it, and they learned, that the dagger is indestructible, but somehow I doubt that. Think no one so far really considered that option. And kids are sometimes great in coming up with good simple solutions, if you let them, their minds are not filled with all the crap making adults’ lives and more so their views on live so complicate.
Not to mention, even if it means pretty much uncontrollable danger we so often are convinced in being able to control any power and make use of it for the good. I too see some similarities between the One Ring and the Dark One’s dagger.

ParticipantParticular Sunday primetime shows suffer at this time of the year, have been through this with the series Cold Case for a couple of years – but they made 7 seasons, so it can work. Irregular schedules for a longer period can kill a show, no matter how good it is. Humans are creatures of habit 😉
As I see it, the thing is not just to keep people interested, die hard fans are anyway and they keep track of when the show is back, but thinking of average audience here, interested in the show but not so much as to keep such a close watch on it, and I think that is still the majority of viewers. Noticed that the biggest problem with them seems to be, to let them know when the show is on air again, it can be confusing with all the little breaks (and some people have other things to do then be all up-to-date about TV schedules, can’t understand it, but know there are ;)). So they have to do some promotion, and enough to get through all this big promotion for the big events, to let people know, not just that the show is still airing but when. Of course promo has to be interesting enough to make people want to watch it instead of doing something else then watching TV on a Sunday eve for a change, after Sundays with hours of football and glamorous red carpet and awards broadcast. So it’s more about doing good promo in my opinion. Besides that they have to do good writing anyway to keep people interested in the show, no matter if they have to wait one or occasionally two weeks for the next episode.
Don’t think “In the Name of the Brother” had true cliffhanger qualities or was a block buster. So, no don’t see the writer do some extra effort to get over the breaks. They are building up a story, go on with some threads, weave in new ones and work for some climax, but to me it looks more like a quite normal build up of a second half of a season of a show with ongoing story lines.

Do you think it could be Snow'sthen? Regina looks very pleased with herself in that picture.
No, had first Archie in mind. But seeing Johanna, the loyal servant of Snow’s family in one of the pictures, my bet is on Johanna’s heart.

ParticipantBefore seeing this particular picture with Johanna in the background (Lesley Nicol, Mrs. Patmore from Downton Abbey) already guessed, the heart Regina has in her hand is from someone, David or Snow really care about. Snow and Charming should be very much aware by now about what the dagger means, so it will take some threat to get them even thinking about handing it over. Had someone else in mind, but now seein Johanna in Storybrooke it looks like she might be the poor soul. It makes sense, more so because of the flashback we can expect.
HappyEndings – Yep, very sure it’s a heart, although missing the glowing red, but these are set pictures, so no CGI effects.
BeastWhisperer Agree with you. Just press the revenge button is enough to get Hook doing something. Not to mention, in the promo it looks like Hook is attacking Rumple – and should think that if Regina and Cora had his heart, they at the moment would stop him doing so, it’s not good for their plans.
Sarah_TN If it would be Davids heart, they just could make him hand it over, at least I assume that. And the pictures of the scene tell something different. Look at Snow’s body language for example: if it would be David’s heart she would show signs to be protective of him, like standing before him, not behind (instincts). And in the picture we see her shocked, David looks shocked and disgusted, no sign of pain or slightest bit of fear. Little things can tell a lot of the story. So, I’m very convinced it’s not David’s heart.

I just find it weird that the actress playing young Snow White is clearly much taller than she was when she shot the first season and they specifically stated that Snow’s mother died ”a long time ago”…. I would’ve expected them to cast a much younger girl.
AND – the father looking much much younger than the actor in Season 1 who seemed to be in his late 50’s.
I agree, I wish they would have CGed her or used a different actress.
Well, I am willing to overlook the height difference, Bailee Madison is a unique talent and looking so much like a young Snow. Can understand they didn’t look for yet another young actress to play that role.
The men in the other picture is by the way not Kind Leopold but the royal doctor.

Judging from the shocked look on Snow’s face in one of the pics, I think someone looses their heart in the showdown. And I hate to say it and I know it’ll anger evil regals but the episode is called, The Queen is Dead. I think Cora might take Regina's heart and crushes it, killing her.
On the pictures it’s Regina holding a heart (not glowing red, but these are set pictures, no CGI effects), so doubt it is who you think. My guess Regina is threatening to kill someone, who Snow and David would care about, unless they do what Regina wants them to do. It’s not Evilregals who should get worried here.
Sara_TN, these are the same pictures this link leads to, just on a different website. Just saying, so people know what we’re talking about.

Agree with Jolly Roger, Hook probably attacks David to get his hook back. And Hook would go after anyone who he thinks is standing in his way to take revenge, there are other ways to easily manipulate Hook, as Cora and Regina have already proven before. No need to take his heart – if they had it, Regina and Cora at the moment would stop him to go after Rumple at all, and the promos shows, he does. Hook fans don’t have to worry much either, not in this way.
Slurpeez108 – that is definitly the dagger and not a wand. Yes, Rumplestiltskin’s dagger (or a replica of it, can’t rule that out yet just by the pictures). But I have not much hope, that Regina is on the side of the Charmings here.
