August definitely makes a habit of keeping secrets hidden in wooden boxes. 😆 I doubt it would be just his typewriter from Season 1. Whatever it is, it changed Neal’s mind really quickly.
Given the connections between “Neal Cassady” and Peter Pan, maybe a picture or item from Neverland? If he’s Bae (because “Neal Cassady” is obviously a fake name), maybe a picture of Rumple’s dagger. So I agree TheGoldenKey.
If Neal is just a normal bloke from our world, it must have been a magical creature or moving image or something. I dunno. I really have no clue. 😕
[adrotate group="5"]naomiParticipantAnd for those of you with Twitter out there, if you watch Tallahassee on Sunday and enjoy MRJ in the episode – make sure to let him know at @MRaymondJames. He’s always really nice to his followers!

Actually, if we look at the previous casting calls, they were pretty accurate. For Milha, it described her as ” a woman who’s often at her village’s tavern and is bored with being a wife and mother.” For Beaman (who turned out to be Smee), it described him as “a criminal who deals in stolen antiques.”
So I think whatever happens in Tallahassee between Emma and Neal will have to do with his casting call (assuming he’s “Jack”):
He’s in his 20s or 30s, charismatic, sexy and mysterious, but also loyal and kind, and he’s running from his past in a land full of danger.
This makes me doubt that he’ll be a cop who rats her out…I think he leaves Emma because he’s running from something. Don’t get me wrong, I would be pleasantly surprised if it went the ex-cop route, but I think the writers are going to take it somewhere else based on what they’ve told us.
We also have the episode synopsis: Meanwhile, Emma’s past is revealed to be anything but magical when she meets up with a fellow thief who wants to make an honest woman out of her.
I think Neal is a real thief with good intentions. But how does “loyal and kind” and “make an honest woman out of her” reconcile with “running from his past”? Was he running from something/someone, and think he was putting Emma in danger by staying with her? Or…did he see a connection between Emma and his past, and decided to run?
Also, I wonder about the “running from his past” part…does that describe Neal in the flashback, or Neal at the present time? I wonder if they’ll surprise us by showing us present-day Neal. Maybe we’ll see his reaction to the postcard he receives and what he does about it. Oh ho, exciting!
naomiParticipantWell, with that sneak peek I’m glad that the general consensus has shifted from:
“He’s not as hot as ________” to —-> “I think I’m going to like him.”
I suppose that’s what great acting and great writing can do! 😆 Although I had no doubt that MRJ could convert some naysayers with 1 minute of speaking. I think there’s something special about MRJ’s acting that just makes his characters feel less staged and more…genuine. Something like that. I’m not a drama expert, but I sure like having him on my TV!
Now let’s see if I can still love his Once character after he inevitably breaks Emma’s heart on Sunday.
Bring it on, writers!
naomiParticipantHmmm, “impressive”!

So, with only 1 minute and 38 seconds of footage, the shot-by-shot, word-by-word analysis of the “Neal is Bae” theorizing begins.
YES! I’d love to see Neal go against Hook and Cora to save Henry somehow… I hope he can redeem himself after whatever he did to Emma.
naomiParticipantWelcome CinnamonHummingbird!
Great points. I think there’s something awfully endearing about two lost fairy tale children flung through time and space only to find true love in a place without magic.
Also…if he’s not Bae, I’m going to be totally devastated. I think I’m too far gone with this idea now to turn back. I blame the writers. 😆 I try not to get emotionally invested in any fan theory but this– this is just too much.
naomiParticipantThat was the pilot, I think. “Emma. What a lovely name!” – Mr. Gold
If he is Bae — I’m glad he still seems to have a light-heartedness. I was actually really worried that they would write a really emo/depressed/closed-off Bae who was still bitter about what his father did to him. Obviously Bae will still have that emotional intensity from his dark past, but I wanted to see some of his “innocence” survive even that.
I have to keep reminding myself that – obviously – this episode doesn’t end well for EmmaxNeal. (sigh) A few more days.
naomiParticipantI know, Faux Pax! Instant chemistry. I love it.
I love Neal’s snarkiness. I want him to be Bae so bad. Anyone spot any clues? (Besides the hoodie and his “good name” comment that suggests he might be tied to Rumple?)
For now, I’m just unbelievably excited to have MRJ in Once. 😆
Also, I wonder if the car is really his, or if he stole it too…his reaction at the police car following them seemed a bit strange. ❓ I wonder what he did?
naomiParticipantOh wait – she’s not wearing her necklaces! Hmm.
naomiParticipantI THINK I MAY HAVE A NEW OTP.
This. Definitely this.
