*joy* (<—laced with so much sarcasm and bitterness that she can’t even)
Why is it that the one remaining non-cookie-cutter couple from OUAT’s main core is always the one that gets put through the ringer most? Oh wait. This is on a show where being a positive character with decent screentime and any in-show longevity whatsoever requires one to be an upper class attractive straight white person in their 20s or 30s. And where women get almost exclusively redeemed (or damned, cue Milah) through motherhood. Right. I guess we should be shocked Rumbelle has made it this far. Yay! (I’ll spare you my soap box. You know the drill — blah blah classist, blah blah gender normative, blah blah racist, blah blah ageist, blah blah sexist…#whyamistillwatchingthis)
Could it be Mila? Or, if they really want to be bad, it was a ring that belonged to Young Bae, that Mila took when she left as a symbol to remind her of him, and she gave it to hook as a symbol of love, and then he gave it to Emma. I’d hate that.
*twitch* *twitch twitch twitch* Ok, Milah would be mildly creepy, and would bring up that whole “oh yeah, by the way” aspect of things — which, Emma still doesn’t know, right? Could be Pan, as @kranen said. It’d be the most neutral option. Or maybe Liam?
But I have a sinking feeling that it’ll be Neal who will have given the ring to Hook during the time of their friendship. Probably because it was the only thing he had of his mum (somehow) and thought Hook should have it. I get a feeling that they won’t pass an opportunity of having Neal metaphorically “bless” the relationship, and that would be one way to do it. I hope I’m wrong.

You know, I’m not so sure that’s the case — I think we’re being told that they are still pretty up in the air, and based on the wording of A&E’s latest interviews, I’m wondering if they might not give Rumbelle the axe in the end. I don’t know, is it just me, or did they sound unusually negative about the future of that particular pairing compared to the others?
except for of course the fact that Baelfire is dead
Yeah, there’s that little pesky detail, which was pretty much what drove Rumple’s character… Yeah. I have nothing to say on this topic. Nothing.
I think the bear debacle served to establish Rumple’s on team “hero” — the question is still what his actions will be from here on. We know that the title of “hero” on OUAT no longer means a heck of a lot – which is precisely what Emma was saying at the end of that episode.
Does that still make Emma the savior if she’s still finding happy endings for people?
I think Emma’s savior status is sort of like a degree. If someone is an MD, or, say, a JD — they’re still an MD or a JD even if they don’t practice medicine or law. At least, that’s my sense of it, others might disagree.
November 12, 2015 at 10:57 pm in reply to: IGN 11/11 – Robbie Kay Teases a Changed Pan For Episode 100 Return #312361nevermoreParticipantAt least one per episode seems to be the requirement.
The social life of OUAT’s MacGuffins is totally befuddling. We had the Wizard’s Hat which seemingly got as much screen time as the, excuse my language, Crimson Crown. Then you have things that are mentioned once, and then fall off the face of the earth, never to be seen again.
I want to see Emma the Savior do some saving sure, but I don’t like the idea that villians can do whatever they want and then not work towards redemption, and instead be saved by the Savior!
Well, they did exactly that to Rumple, with the biggest MacGuffinest MacGuffin of them all (the head adornment that shall not be mentioned). And it did the character no favors, effectively robbing him of any convincing and satisfying (for the audience) path to redemption. So if they go that route with other villains, and in the process essentially turn Emma herself into a MacGuffin, it’s going to be a huge opportunity missed.
And I agree with you — some characters I actually really don’t want to see redeemed. Much as I find Zelena amusing, I personally have 0 sympathy for her. And even less for Pan. But that’s personal preferences, we all have them. What worries me is that if they couldn’t pull it off convincingly with a largely sympathetic antagonist like Rumple over, like, 5 seasons — even though they had plenty of material to work with — am I supposed to think that they are going to manage it convincingly in 1/2 a season for even more despicable characters? Without turning Emma into an unconvincing stereotype in the process?
nevermoreParticipantIs Baby Snowflake even old enough to remember anything at all xD SHEESH when was the last time we even saw the baby.
At this point, shouldn’t Baby Snowflake be Toddler Snowflake? Every time they think to include it, he’s in time out. 😉
BEHOLD MY WITHERING STATE AND SPRAY PAINTED HAIR
ROFL — I’m going to make the guess that if the theory about Emma playing the long con is correct, she needs to make Team DO believe that she’s batting for their side. So no straight talk with Hook or anyone.
November 11, 2015 at 11:18 pm in reply to: IGN 11/11 – Robbie Kay Teases a Changed Pan For Episode 100 Return #312307nevermoreParticipantA Savior descending into the Underworld to rescue/encounters a lot of lost souls? Yeah, sounds like she might be bringing them back with her in her Fully Realized! Savior role (a la the Harrowing of Hell, but without the Heaven end game)
Considering the Greek Underworld isn’t necessarily a place of suffering, this plot would be additionally problematic because there is something to be said for these lost souls to actually have moved on. But I have a feeling they’re going to keep with Disney tradition, and make Hades and his realm “Evil” (TM) which should garner the viewer’s sympathies for Emma’s resuscitation projects.
nevermoreParticipantWhat Nimue doesn’t realize is that Emma is playing a long con.
Agreed. But I’m still unsure what exactly happens for Emma to turn her full blown DO (at least in demeanor), and why the sword/dagger (swagger?) has to be reforged in SB. Isn’t Camelot a perfectly adequate location for that to happen? There’s a nice forge there — seems like as good a place as any. (I know what you’re going to say. It starts with a P, right?)
November 11, 2015 at 10:52 pm in reply to: IGN 11/11 – Robbie Kay Teases a Changed Pan For Episode 100 Return #312298nevermoreParticipantBut so far it sounds like Victoria (Cruella) is the only one coming back for multiple episodes and if we’re spending the whole season in the Underworld, that could be because of her dog-controlling powers.
Ah, good point, I haven’t thought of that!
You know, though, as soon as you introduce the Underworld, and especially its Ancient Greek variant, “dead is dead” becomes a slippery slope. In Greek mythology, there’s this sense that they’re separate worlds/realms, and much ritual activity goes into maintaining them as separate (drinking from the Lethe etc), even though occasional crossings do happen. But in a show that’s essentially all about realm jumping?
It’s going to be McGuffins for everyone, isn’t it? I mean, if that ridiculous mushroom is any indication…
nevermoreParticipantYup. Nimue “takes over” Emma’s body (probably with Emma’s permission becuase Emma has a secret plan) and kills Merlin
Yes, that’s what I’m leaning towards as well. Especially since this new DC appears to produce trees. Here’s what I’m curious about though. Rumple set a precedent for outsourcing the DC curse in S1 — Regina had to pay the price with her father’s heart, but conversely, she was the one holding the reigns of how the curse affected everyone in SB (so Rumple had to negotiate a clause for himself).
If Nimue (and not, technically, Emma) is the one who casts this DC, how much control does Emma have over it? Was she the one who decided on the length of the memory wipe, for example? Also, isn’t the memory wipe a separate spell from the DC, as suggested by Zelena’s whole thing in S3? And what’s in it for Nimue anyway?
nevermoreParticipant^^LOL
About Zelena’s “accelerated pregnancy.” What’s the narrative purpose of that? I doubt they threw that in just for kicks. I wonder if it means that the show needs to have her not pregnant by a certain point in the plot, or whether they need to introduce the baby earlier than it would have otherwise arrived.

Maybe it is like EASTERN / ASIAN philosophy the villains get re-incarnated to a lower form to make up for their bad deeds…. then get returned to life to try again….. . .
And the good guys stay dead and forgotten, not reborn unto a higher life form. Great.
If we are going with that approach, the good guys have a much better shot at exiting the entire cycle of rebirths (and suffering) than the bad guys, and thereby not being reborn woils actually be a desirable outcome. I think they’ll go with the “one of the heavenly realms” tropes.
On the other hand, considering that, at least in Buddhism, time runs differently (slower) in the hell realms, Pan and Co would have had eons to reflect on how their accumulated karma bore fruit.
I’m personally not eager to see a Greek mythology / Asian religions mashup. I don’t think OUAT can pull that off without making it a outrageously ridiculous.
