Then, I’m going to assume we’ll see her in a strictly flashback arc.  But I can’t imagine how she could possibly be alive in Storybrooke.

If she is 4B’s big bad, then I guess that means she’s not really dead.  Even though we saw Emma throw a sword into her dragon form in the season one finale and the next time we saw her, she was a zombie thing in season two.

I’m not a fan of Angelina Jolie but I actually liked the Maleficient movie. I thought it was very well done.

But in regard to Emma, I defer to JMo herself – There was just too much baggage for Emma to ever trust Neal as a romantic partner again.

I agree.  I think an underlying theme for 3B has been starting over.  I remember a line from 3B premiere, how Emma justified why she and Henry moved to New York:

A year ago, I was in Boston, until a fire destroyed my apartment and I moved to New York to have a fresh start with my son.

These are fake memories but I think that starting over and having a fresh start is something Emma’s always wanted.  And the wording here, there was a “fire” that destroyed her apartment, her home.  Teenage Emma really wanted a home, a chance to start over and be happy.  Amnesia Emma wanted to move on and start fresh.

But that chance for a home was destroyed by a bad fire. Adult Baelfire, Neal.  I think it was in the cards as far back at 3×06 that Emma needed Neal to die in order for her to find her own happiness.  She wanted a chance to start over and find love again but could not really do that with Neal being there.

So I was chatting with some SF fans/shippers (totally by accident lol) & they mentioned something really interesting when we got to talking about OUAT & Emma ships, that in hindsight fits really well with what we’ve insisted all along- Neal’s story was mostly about family repeating the same mistakes & more specifically healing the rift with Rumple.

Oh wow, that was very insightful @surayya. I’m shocked.

I loved your first point, how it was about family making the same mistakes. This is why I need the audio commentary from the DVD’s posted already because apparently, in one of those commentaries, Colin or someone talks about how it’s a pattern on the show when it comes to family abandonment. Especially when it comes to Rumple’s family. You keep on seeing the same thing happen.

    Malcolm abandoned Rumple.

    Milah abandoned Rumple and Bae.

    Rumple abandoned Neal.

    Neal abandoned Emma.

And if Hook had abandoned Emma, it would have absolutely reinforced her belief that everyone she cares about or people who care for her, eventually abandon her.  So it’s better to push those people away instead of letting them.

Since Belle wasn’t really on ‘speaking terms’ with Regina at that point, she wouldn’t have actually known how the curse worked- it’s not like there’s the ‘everything you need to know about what happens after you break the dark curse” book lying around, so I think she just projected what she’d have like to be true, as fact.

I agree, but it’s still inaccurate.

My problem with the SF necklace, we’ve already heard two contradictory statements about it.

Emma said she kept it as a reminder not to trust anyone. And look what happened when she stopped wearing it? She started to trust Hook , to open herself up to trusting him. So I’d say that Emma’s statement about what it means to her is more accurate. And as soon she started wearing the necklace,  she started not trusting Hook again.

Also, Charming said in passing in 3b premiere that Regina said that all their things were brought over with the curse. Emma gave back the necklace to Neal in Manhattan, so Neal would have the necklace regardless.

I love Belle but at least when it comes to love, she can be quite naive. Rumple is not only her true love but first love.

I love Captain Swan love story, I do. But I think it would be a let down if we got to the last season of this show and never got any kind of confirmation of who is Emma’s true love?

It bothers me when shows are cancelled and the story is incomplete.

And for purpose of my true love meta, there has to be a TLK at some point.

But overall, I agree with you all. Captain Swan is about the journey, specifically Emma’s.

In retrospect, each season has been a build up to Emma accepting romantic love in her life.

Season one – Emma falls in love with Henry and really begins to genuinely care about him, to accepting the role as his mother.

Season two – reconnecting with her parents and accepting them into her life.

3a- Emma realizing that her love for Neal is unhealthy and the only way to really give herself a chance at a happy ending is if he’s dead (hence Quiet Minds).

3b – Emma trying to figure out where is home for her and finally accepting romantic love into her life. But also truly accepting her parents for who they are instead of keeping them at a distance.

Each season son has really been a building block towards Emma accepting romantic love into her life.

YTL doesn’t automatically happen; both parties have to come to that conclusion and admit it to themselves–we need only look at the amnesia kisses to know that.

I agree.  Snow needed to be moved (emotionally), to feel something towards him in order for TLK to work and restore her memories in Heart of Darkness.

And like I said before, re-watching Manhattan a few weeks ago really makes me wonder how anyone thought that that was a healthy relationship. (I can see how one might be a Neal fan and ship SF, but as an Emma fan? I don’t get it.)

I know, right?  You might be able to defend from Neal’s point of view, but certainly not from Emma’s.  And she’s the one who is most important to any ‘ship where she’s involved.

. My thoughts too. I’ll go a little farther and say this is the episode where Sydney says to Regina, “I’m done with you.” And he realizes that Regina doesn’t really love him and refuses to help her. I really want Sydney to have some kind of epiphany that Regina doesn’t love him

I’d like to see this too. Perhaps Sidney is the broken mirror. He’s the broken-HEARTED mirror (see what I did there).

I see what you did there, lol 😉
