Short snippet of Lana’s panel
What would have Regina’s secret have been if she joined the gang in the Echo Cave?

ParticipantI agree with POM as to why it didn’t work in Skin Deep. Rumple has to believe that he deserves love and that somebody could really truly love him for it to work.
I agree. So, if Rumple were still cursed and Belle tried true love’s kiss again, would it work this time?
Right this very moment in the Onciverse? No. Why? Because Rumple is still incredibly doubtful about his ability to BE LOVED. He needs some self healing before another can come in and show their love for him.
Ok.

ParticipantIs it true love then? I think in order for it to be true love, both parties have to truly believe that they love each other. There shouldn’t be any doubt whatsoever in each person’s mind that they love each other.
With Rumbelle though, doubt exists. Rumple doesn’t truly believe that Belle loves him even though she can tell him a million times that she does, he still doesn’t hear her.

ParticipantOkay, whatever.
Back to my original question, do Rumple and Belle still share true love – despite the fact he is not cursed anymore?
Keep in my mind, the only true love’s kiss they shared was not a complete true love’s kiss. Belle’s kiss only started to change but him but it wasn’t a complete effect.

Not necessarily. Whilst an addiction does consume your life, it isn’t because you love it, it’s because you’re dependant on it. A heroin addict doesn’t stab themselves in the arm, or else where on the body, with a needle because they love it, they do it because they need their fix.
Hate to tell you this but you just contradicted yourself.

Let me put it this way, if Belle was enough for Rumple, he wouldn’t:
Try to separate himself from the dagger but still find a way to keep his power; he could just let go of his addiction for magic and just settle down with her. But he couldn’t even settle down with Belle. He was hiding what he was doing from her. On purpose.
Wouldn’t have tried to find a way in the season finale to have both his magic and Belle at the same time.Belle even asked him, “Why wasn’t it good enough?” Why wasn’t her love good enough for him?
If Rumple loved only Belle, she wouldn’t need to question him about that. But the reality is, she’s not the only love of his life.
Belle said to Rumple, “Your true love is your power.” (Heroes and Villains, 4×11).
At the end of the day, all Belle ever wanted was just him. She never cared about the power and often questioned why Rumple needed it so badly.

ParticipantI think it’s more than fear that binds Rumple to to his power. He loves it too. Robert Carlyle has stated as much and his power, it existed long before he ever met Belle.
He definitely loves her. There’s no doubt about that and he wants to be with her. This other thing, [other] part of his life, is probably bigger. Because this has existed long before she came along and will probably exist long after she’s gone. This hat and this kind of quest for magic and power is so massive for him. This kind of addiction he has to it is huge. That’s what drives Rumpelstiltskin more than love.
