I think a preservation spell is very possible. Regina used it on Daniel and we know Regina learned her magic from Rumpel. He probably kept his hand around as a souvenir or something.

I don’t want rumbelle to end, so I voted for Gold having to woo Belle all over again. And by working with her to get her memory back, he’ll redeem himself.
