Now, remember the episode where Snow meets Rumple? Rumple talks about love being a disease and her wanting to forget (although he obviously chooses not to himself) and we all thought he was referencing his wife but he had to be referencing Belle! That helps a lot with the timeline if I’m right.
I’ve always thought that Rumple gave his hate speech against love to Snow White in 7:15 a.m., that he had to be talking about Belle.
Also, I got the impression when Belle told Rumple that he found children’s clothes in the attic, that it had been several decades since he first became the Dark One. Also, Jane Espenson said that there wasn’t just one Ogre war. There’s been lots, since they also seem to be repeating themselves. And Rumple was in the FIRST Ogre war. So, either Baelfire ran away or simply died of old age. And Rumple kept his clothes as a way to remember him.

#4) Also, I think it’s interesting to note that the EQ is concerned with a mermaid rather than Snow White OR the curse because she eventually becomes obsessed with those things but she didn’t seem to be in this episode. (Unless Ariel is part of her quest. But all she said was that the mermaid was being annoying somehow…)
Actually, I think we will see the infamous mermaid in the next episode with Prince Charming, which if you've read the description, puts this episode very close to the cancellation of Charming's wedding.

I was happy that he chased her away rather than hurting her (physically) because he was so violently mad and felt so betrayed that I thought he would for a second! Aw, man. I felt so bad for him in this episode… 🙁
I just wanted to give Rumple/Mr. Gold a big hug 😀 am I crazy for saying that? 😆 😕

ParticipantWhere can I post a new topic about this last episode? I can see the threads relating to ‘Skin Deep’ but not the forum where all the threads are located.

While it can be noted that Belle’s village was suffering from the Ogre Wars, Jane Espenson (writer of this episode) tweeted in reply to a question.
Centuries. He was in FIRST Ogreswar. @catobie R How many years has Rumple been cursed for at this point? #OUAT

Hmm, that is very interesting. First Ogre war, which makes me think when this episode takes place, maybe it is during the second Ogre war.
Like in reality (our history), before we had WWII, people referred to WWI as ‘The Great War.’ But then we had WWII and obviously, people couldn’t call that the Great War, part 2. History needed to call it something to help distinguish it from the first war.
I wonder if it’s the same thing in fairytale land.
