ParticipantI know how you feel. It’s been very difficult for me to like or feel sympathy Rumple this season. Last night, I think was the boiling point for me. I didn’t want to be right that he would use the hat on Emma but he did and he lied about the method that would be used as well. He also flat out admitted that he knows who he is, a selfish man and he doesn’t care.
Rumple is continually digging himself deeper in his lies and manipulations, that when the truth finally does come out (it has to), I can’t feel sorry for him when he loses everything. By everything, I mean Belle.
And I’m teetering on whether to feel bad for Belle as well. I mean, last night, Rumple left his bed in the middle of the night and slipped off to trap the savior in the hat. What did he tell Belle he was doing, or was he really that stealthy when sneaking out of their house? Is Belle really that blind to not see what kind of man she’s married to?
It’s even harder to discern exactly what Rumple wants. It’s not always clear on screen.
Speaking of Rumple, I wrote a lengthy meta comparing his and Killian’s heart.
And wrote more metas.
Why I think Gold just saved Killian from the Shattered Sight Spell?
And just a reminder, Eddy teased that we would see Emma fight for Hook this season And we’re going to see in what context.

ParticipantThis is a very interesting topic. I studied psychology in community college and even before that, I’ve always been fascinated why certain characters lean towards good or bad and what makes them that way.
But since we’re talking about a show that has fairytale characters, in Enchanted Forest, I don’t think there was a place where characters who had problems could go to and talk about their issues. Everyone always seems to want a magical solution for everything instead of working on their problems and finding a better solution.
Clearly Rumple is unhinged this season.
I don’t think anyone questions that and so is Ingrid, the problem is that these characters, instead of seeking out help, they choose to cope with their problems on their own. Sadly, there’s still a stigma todays when it comes to mental illness that sometimes, people are just afraid to ask for help from other people. So in that way, I don’t think the portrayal is inaccurate.

ParticipantI don’t like what they are doing to Rumple, making him to be THE MOST EEEEEEEEEVIL and basically ignoring any progress he once made. To paraphrase, “Neal is dead, Belle loves me, but it doesn’t matter. I’m a villain.” He makes wrong choices but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t sense to those wrong choices–he wanted to find his son, he wanted to save Bae and Belle from Pan, there were logical and well written decisions. I don’t even recognize my favorite character anymore.
I feel the same way. He’s been doing a lot of bad things this season that it’s become really hard for me to like and even sympathisize with him.
I didn’t want my prediction that he would the hat on Emma to happen but it did—as much as he gave her the choice — it’s still an unforgivable act to me. He’s so far gone at this point I seriously don’t see how he can redeemed. He’s really hit rock bottom.
And he knows he’s done bad stuff but yup, he doesn’t really care to change.
I did love how self love was finally addressed. I know there was debate how that’s never been addressed and it felt appropriate for Emma love and accept who she is as a way to take control of her magic. And for Elsa to help her realize that was and even more amazing.

ParticipantI would love it if I’m wrong here because I really don’t want to see anything bad happen to Emma; but when an opportunity arises, a golden one like the woman who is the epitome if true live asking to have her magic removed and Gold knows an easy way to do that–he’s not going to pass it up.
The hat not only removes magic from a person but also traps them as well. Gold is also good about improvising very coolly when he needs to.

ParticipantEmma and Elsa maybe?

ParticipantI love OUAT because the Frozen cast is amazing. All of them are perfectly cast, I’ll be sad to see them go once their arc is done.

ParticipantI agree.

ParticipantIt’s no secret that in tv and movies, sex sells. It’s why you often get women showing cleavage or legs and why men sometimes go shirtless. It’s interesting though that the bad girl/bad boy characters tend to show off more flesh than the virtuous characters. It’s often to do with the evil is sexy trope.
Yup, I agree. I actually laughed when I saw that bit in the article.
