ParticipantIts history. The same reason we in the real world record it important events too. I am more concerned with the fact that the on goings in other lands are known in this world before they even happen. Thats more suspicious. THEORY: The Author records and spreads the stories to generate belief. Magic runs on belief. Magical realms run on magic. If belief is gone those worlds will cease to exist. Its like the “God Needs Prayers” trope. Something similar happened in the book series about the kids at Disney world who had to fight the villains ( I came recall the name) but anyway, every child making wishes and believing every night at Disney world actually brought the characters to life. If its the same thing in OUAT if they don’t tell the stories people will not believe in magic and these worlds will never be. Merlin is a prophet. And so was Rump. And we know the future is never truly what it seems. That explains alot. Merlin foretold things of the future for certain stories and told them in advance to certain people who passed the stories down. The details were not exact and ofcourse they got changed a lot too as they were passed down but eventually the stories came true as he foretold. The Author records the true events as they occur.
Yes, I came up with a similar theory last year on this board (or was it three years ago just before Neverland?) that belief is being harnessed in someway to create magic….belief from anyone who reads the stories including from anyone in our world.
Ah yes, it was on another board just before NL. I was inspired by the original tale of belief needed to make fairy dust work, and the awe of the Lost Boys when Wendy told them stories. Neverending story was also an influence on my theory. I different angle to my theory also suggested that belief from our world was used to create the other worlds…so the Evil Queen only exists due to the previous belief in her existence. Her story (The Original Snow White) was told over and over for centuries, generating centuries of belief until she came into existence. Doesn’t explain why 1) RH and EQ would exist at the same time and 2) Merida has been round for a couple of years and needed only a bit of belief to come into existance. Oh well.
Either way, just like you I am waiting for them to explain why Merida, RH, WW and the EQ can all be alive/exist at the same time, even though their tales started decades and centuries apart.

ParticipantHmmmm
Giant trees/plants in mythology, folktales, legends etc….
-Jack and the Beanstalk has already been done.
-Odin?
-Robin Hood’s Merry Men meeting tree? (There is actually a huge tree, not as big as this one in the middle of Sherwood Forest where Robin Hood and his Merry Men were supposed to have had hold their meetings, I’ve seen it!)
-Merlin’s Magic Tree http://www.visitwales.com/explore/traditions-history/king-arthur-myth-history-locations
Probably either Merlin’s Magic Tree, or Odin’s tree, or both rolled into one??

ParticipantWriting this without reading the other replies. If I end up repeating what others have said, my apologies.
minus points for:
-Merlin telling young Emma that bad things with good intentions leads to terrible things/darkness/whatever it was. If this is true, then perhaps Snow should have been able to walk through that door to get to Glinda, unless of course her heart was healed of all the bad things that she had done until that point?
And what about self-protection and the protection of others? I really don’t like where they are going with this.
-Emma starting off the pit of gloop. Rumple didn’t start off this way, so why should she?
(Temporary theory: DO that start off redeemed (Mr Gold) or the love incarnate (Emma) end up back in the gloop as is the only thing that is strong enough to convert them?).
-Why is the WW needed for the wand? Regina is not entirely ”white magic” so surely her inclusion would tip the balance towards evil?
-WHY DID EMMA TURN EVIL AT ALL? She is supposed to be pure love/white magic incarnate right, and Snowing removed the darkness from her? Perhaps she cannot stay good, and be influenced by outside forces (dark magic) or life experiences????
Not happy with….
-Henry seeming to have more respect for Emma, who was the DO and in a different realm (because he didn’t want to change the story), than Regina and went off with Hook to break out the WW. Maybe I misunderstood?
What I liked….
JM’s performance as the trainee dark one. (Not sure about her as the actual dark one, though).
Interesting that the dagger was part of Excalibar.
Liked Merida’s performance (but not her inclusion).
Question 1
Last time the crew ended up back in EF, they landed in their full costume, long hair and all. It didn’t happen this time, nor did it happen to Emma and Hook when they fell through the portal. Is the something about the curse that does that to them, returning to their original state? Part of the ”undoing?”
Question 2
I don’t understand why Emma couldn’t have asked for help catching another wisp. Was there a reason I didn’t catch?

ParticipantWow, the exposition is strong in that last one, eh. – so…. why does the wand need dark magic? Does that imply the apprentice uses or has used dark magic?? – Blue? Y u here, momma? – apprentice? Your alive? – Hook. Dial it back. – I think Regina should have still been able to use that wand >> I don’t like the idea of her being entirely light, she’s needs a good chunk of that dark in her. But apparently its gone. – Why not call Ursula? – Darkness is born in the EF? Or does he mean THE Darkness was born there?
These are all great points. To throw in my 2 cents:
-Yes this confused me too. I hope this gets explained in a coherent way.
-I know right? Where was she when…well almost everything, really.
-Apprentice…please stay alive. I think he is after this scene, just resting (???)
-Hook-I know he is upset about Emma being missing but this is too far a swing back to his old ways. Feels out of character, just like Regina and the mirror at the beginning of S4.
-This confused me too. I guess it needs equal parts light and dark, and Regina is tipped more towards light but still has darkness? Then again, using the WWW will tip it too far too dark if that was the case. This better be explained in a coherent manner, but I have a feeling it won’t be.

Participant-The missing year flashback. I want to know why Regina continued to dislike Robin! Or was it fake so that everyone else wouldn’t suspect that the two were an item??
-How Tink ended up in NL
-More of Tink and Hook’s relationship

ParticipantHello all!
I am back again from several months inactivity.
I agree that Camelot will be flashbacks of some kind.
They could be a parallel universe (which would explain two kinds of Emma).
If it is not a parallel universe, then maybe Merlin successfully directed the dark on magic elsewhere thus freeing Emma, but soon afterwards something went wrong (another villian? wonky seperation spell? seperation spell being only temporary?) and she became Dark Emma again.
Or perhaps she became Dark Emma again because only she can fight the darkness and get rid of it for good so that never attaches itself to anyone ever again=savior?? (she has to be attached to the darkness in order to fight it?).

ParticipantI think Henry will be tempted to influence the story after all, now that his mother is the new Dark One.

ParticipantI’ve been thinking about it and… I think Merlin is a child of True Love. How else could he be the most powerful mage in the realms. They’ve established that TL is the most powerful magic there is. I think Merlin, like Emma, wields that magic. He probably isn’t too wholesome though. Do we know who Merlins patents are? (not familiar with this particular stories and such). Maybe they are a TL coupling. I dont see why Snowing would be the only TL in the whole world.
This would definitely make sense within the Show; I hope they are consistent and do this, even if it means TL between human and a mythical creature (yuck-same for Eric and Ariel, but I digress) . To make Merlin more powerful than Emma, and Emma possesses the most powerful magic of all, he would need to possess a magic that is so powerful that it has been kept secret from all the different dimensions/worlds…giving Rumple and all the others the impression that Emma has the most powerful magic.
I wonder if Emma will become the next sorcerer, just as Henry is the new author. If not then maybe should could be the next Arthur (who wasn’t magical, I know, but was a savior of a kind), and if Lily straightens herself out (like, by Emma and Lily swapping a bit of light and darkness), then maybe she would be the next sorcerer.

ParticipantRemoving the “Dark One” from Rumple, I’m guessing, only resets him to his previous form. He will be the weak coward, hungry for power, and willing to do all the wrong things to get power. I think he will attempt to get the dagger and kill Emma with it, thus regaining his powers as the “Dark One”.
I’ve got a horrible feeling that this will happen. It was hinted at when the apprentice said that Rumple would struggle adjusting to this world without his powers.
Another thing they might do is continue along this biblical path
1. Emma absorbs everyone’s darkness, so that everyone gets the chance to continue their lives, starting with a clean slate.
2. Emma dies. killing the dark curse, and the characters’ darkness along with her.
3. Merlin or some other god-like figure resurrects her, or she becomes a bright star in the night sky.
If Rumple succeeds, replace Emma with Rumple in the plot above.
If Rumple’s heart is used as a darkness sucking device as @nevermore suggested, replace Emma with the Rumple’s bright heart.
Something as weird or as silly as that.
