ParticipantApparently the Peddler and the Apprentice filmed a scene today. Yeah, the Peddler is definitely the Author or Sorcerer.
Thought! What if the peddler is supposed to be their version of the wandering salesman in Aladdin. He was also the storyteller who tells the audience the story of the lamp. It could be a way to introduce the Aladdin mythos as well. Do we have a side by side of costume?
If this came to pass, I would be so happy!

ParticipantEmma was super frustrating in this ep. “I am the one with undercover experience, so if you’re going to succeed, I insist on helping you… …by tagging along with my parents and dragging my boyfriend along for good measure, because it’s so much easier to have covert meetings when there’s a large group of people involved… …and by following you in a clunky old truck when we’re the only two cars on the road in the middle of the night, because no one’s gonna notice that I’m following you… …and by storming right into the middle of your undercover operation to have a chit chat because if any of your associates are watching to make sure you do the thing, it totally won’t mess it up and get you in trouble if they see me wander in… …and then I’ll just chill at the scene of the crime afterwards with my GPS tracker with your name on it out in the open.” Way to be an experienced undercover operative, Emma. NOT.
Totally.

ParticipantCould this episode have seen the start of the “final battle” Rumple mentioned in the pilot? Rumple and the QoD did talk about starting a war in S4E14 “Enter the Dragon.”
Rumple: When war hits Storybrooke, everyone is going to have to pick a side, including Regina. Mal: And what war is that? Rumple: The one we’re about to start. And tonight, we’re going to throw the first punch.
I think it could be, and it starts with the villains getting information out of adult Pinocchio.
The writers said that in 4b they ask what makes a hero and what makes a villain. Both battle for happy endings. But I think the conclusion will be that heroes will self-sacrifice for the sake of other people, whereas villians will stop at nothing and will always put their own needs first. Regina sits in the middle, but I think she will learn that she will need to self-sacrifice to get some kind of happy ending…and therefore win the battle. Regina has self-sacrificed a few times, but maybe not enough to earn her HE yet.

ParticipantJust read everyone else’s responses.
I forgot to add the train in my original response. Just like @RumplesGirl, I am completely confuddled by this train.
Where does it do? Where does it go?
Is it just a freight train, and no passengers are allowed? (=food and other supplies while under various curses and spells).
Is it a way out of dodge? I assume not, but still, gotta ask.
What the heck was that test supposed to prove…like seriously? If that’s Mal, Regina, Ursula, & Cruella’s idea of a fun game then heck no, “First one to save us loses”…so they’ll all just die together instead????? Seriously!
And then there was this. I am glad I am not the only one who thought the whole evilness test was silly.
I think I will dock a full point for the test, and half a point for the train (because it was not made clear what kind of train it was and where it went, but we can make certain assumptions).
Final grade 6 1/2 out of 10….again.
P.S
Does anyone else feel like there needs to be more Mal backstory? I would like to know why she had a vendetta against Briar Rose…why she cursed her with the sleeping curse. Are we meant to assume that it is because she was not invited to Briar Rose’s birthday party? Basically, I would like to know what turned Mal evil in the first place.

ParticipantWriting this without looking at other’s responses.
I am giving this episode 8/10 points.
-half a point lost for drunk/sleepy Mal. That was weird.
-half a point lost for the co-ordination of Hook becoming Rumple again. Before the poof, Hook had an evil grin. After the poof, Rumple was frowning contemplatively. A smoother transition would have been 1) Hook’s evil grin 2) Poof 3) Rumple’s evil grin 4) Rumple’s frown.
-A full point lost for the unclear timeline in Regina’s backstory. Weak fireballs indicate that this was before she crushed the gypsy girl’ heart, as taking out a heart seems more advanced than fireballs. BUT she seemed more revengeful than just before she went to the tavern (at this time she seemed grumpy, and fearful, but not revengeful), which indicates that she met Mal after running out of the tavern, crushing the girl’s heart.
(I have always put several weeks between the failed resurrection of Daniel, and her crushing the gypsy’s heart, even though we saw the two in the same episode).
I am tempted to knock off a point for Belle not figuring out that Hook was Rumple, especially after he placed his hand on her heart. I can’t decide whether this was in character. Belle is supposed to be intelligent, and should have picked up on the little signs that the audience did, but most of the time she is written as not particularly bright, so *shrug*?
Potential plothole, but will wait and see:
If King Stephan did not recognize Regina, he might recognize her later on. She won’t be invited to the wedding as there won’t be one with Philip and Aurora cursed. However, the royal court will have other events, surely and Regina will be invited to those? Even if King Stephan and Queen Briar Rose will be too grieved to have lighter events, they will still need to meet other royals and nobles for political reasons. Or is it just the king that attends these, not his consort?
If this turns out to be a plot hole later on, the rating for this episode will change to 7/10.
I am wondering who the old man in the carriage was.Could he be the sorcerer or the author?
Just seems like he was in the right place at the right time to motivate Regina to go back to Mal so that Regina would continue her tutelage with Rumple afterwards. It’s as if he needed to intervene to make the story move along in the direction he wanted it to go…as if he needed Regina to be powerful enough to cast the curse. Or am I seeing too much into a plot device character? lol

ParticipantI was talking to RG last night about the movie “Stranger Than Fiction”. If anyone isn’t familiar with it, it’s with Will Farrell. He play’s a guy who suddenly hears narration in his head and after visiting a doctor he finds a literary specialist and they finally discover that his life is really a story written by this author who is known for killing off her characters. There is more to the movie but it got me thinking….. What if the author isn’t some omnipotent being who is controlling these people’s lives like god, but just an ordinary writer, behind a plain wooden door in their apartment typing away twisted and mashed up stories of fairytales, not knowing what they are doing is bringing them to life. We have a stray page from the book of something that never happened, Robin and Regina kissing years ago at a much younger age, but it never occurred. A rough draft? The author decided to go back and change it? Add more angst to the plot?
Yes….like Sophie’s World. I referenced Sophie’s World (and Neverending Story) on a different fanboard more than a year ago to give an explanation as to why these characters exist, why we know about them, and why the likes of RH and Regina, whose stories are at least 500 years apart, might co-existing at the same time.

ParticipantIsn’t there a truth serum or something the QoD can give to see if Regina is telling the truth? Or does alcohol count after several shots? lol

Participant”Create” has many meanings.
1) from scratch.
2) from parts/ingredients given to you
3) from a recipe given to you
4) tweaking
Rumple: probably 3 and 4
Regina: probably 3 (Rumple’s tweaked recipe).
(Not sure on who tweaked the recipe so that people in SB forgot who were they were).
I don’t think it is a retcon at all, especially after reading what RC said back in 2o12. It seemed to be in the works all along. Adam and Eddy simply used the word ”create” rather than ”invent” because of its wide meaning to fool the audience and give themselves some wriggle room.
I am a big stickler for illogical retcons and plotholes, but this one I am okay with. No issue here.

ParticipantMore from YVRShoots. Seems like something happened, and Henry is now alone in Storybrooke. The heck?
Maybe the Author, aggravated that no one is appreciating his writing, is erasing everyone from the book. The only person who isn’t a a part of that is Henry, so it would make sense that he’d be the only one left.
But Henry’s parents were from the Enchanted Forest, so if they got erased, then wouldn’t Henry, too?
Eeeek!
Maybe the Author, aggravated that no one is appreciating his writing, is erasing everyone from the book.
Frankly, who could blame him at this point.
Will Henry have to re-write the Book in order to get everyone back?
Yeah maybe. Would this mean that the end of season 4 is a Henry-only show?

ParticipantOooh. That’d work if S5 is the end and the finale of the whole shebang is “Happily Ever After”
I could see “Happily Ever After” or some variation being used for the series finale, since it would bookend the show. If the Pilot were to have a proper episode title, it probably would simply be the show’s title. In fact, that is the episode title for the Pilot in a few international markets. More importantly, the Pilot literally starts with the words “Once Upon a Time.” Case in point, it all starts with “Once Upon a Time”, but ends with “Happily Ever After.”
I agree with ”Happily Ever After” if season 4 is the last one.
If we get a season 5 how about
”the sorcerer” or ”the author” or ”Mr Line” (=merlin).
Perhaps some lyrics from the song ”Heroes and Villians” , such as ”lost and gone” or ”a town full heroes and villians”
