that fantastic moment that Charming gives Killian a sword- loving that particular bromance haha
YES! This was GREAT! I also really love that bromance!
[adrotate group="5"]oncemusicfanParticipantOk, so I just have to say that this episode was AMAZING! It was SO interesting and heartbreaking to get Rumple’s backstory and even to learn who Peter Pan truly is. Crazy but awesome! Even though it wasn’t a CS centric episode, there was a little moment between them that I enjoyed seeing. It’s really telling to me that the writers are making sure that each episode so far this season has some type of interaction between Hook and Emma. This episode, of course, was no different.
I really liked that Emma asked Hook about his brother in an effort to save her father from having to stay in Neverland. The way she kindly noted that she knew it would be difficult for him to talk about it (or something like that) was very considerate of her. I hope we get to see more of her reaching out to him for advice/help or even just to learn more about who he is.

He was so sweet and it was heartbreaking to witness what his father did to him. I agree with RG that it makes his abandonment of Bae worse. I wonder if Peter Pan was being sincere at Skull Rock when he told Rumple that they could be together…probably not. Even if he was sincere, Rumple definitely was NOT having it. And it’s pretty obvious that Peter Pan is crazy, so I wouldn’t want to be with him either.
Anyway, on a lighter note I really enjoyed the jokes about Hook and Rumple’s “good looks.” Made me laugh and sort of eased the tension of this episode a bit.
The Bae and Wendy reunion was great!
There was a moment with Emma and Charming that was also really sweet!
The one thing that stands out to me that I didn’t like, is that Neal was so quick to distrust Rumple and everyone just jumped on board with it. I totally get it, because Rumple isn’t the most trustworthy. BUT I feel like Neal should have given him the benefit of the doubt because Rumple does love him and wants to help save Henry.
I also didn’t particularly care for Rumple’s dad, but we’re not really supposed to so…yeah.
Overall, great episode!
oncemusicfanParticipantThat was insane! I know some people totally called that, so congrats to those that did!!! I felt so bad for little Rumple as a kid. Broke my heart! It will be interesting to see how Rumple gets out of the “tight” situation he’s in at the moment. Now that it is confirmed that Peter Pan is Rumple’s father, it makes me dislike him even more. What a terrible person! But wow, that Robbie Kay is a pretty phenomenal actor! He’s doing an amazing job! Great episode!
oncemusicfanParticipantHappy Once day, everyone! Great gifs and videos and points about parallels! I was briefly a Swanfire shipper and even I could see that CS had a strong connection…it’s the reason I jumped shipped over the summer! I could no longer deny that Hook and Emma make quite the exciting couple! They have FUEGO! That is what is important with an on-screen couple. Sure, Emma and Neal are kind of cute together, but I’ve never seen any fuego or passion or the type of connection that Emma has with Hook. Any type of romantic relationship whether ficitional or real, needs FUEGO. That’s what keeps things interesting. It’s a fact of life.
If anything, this season has proved how PERFECT for each other Emma and Hook really are. Going back to rewatch episodes of last season, with SO many clues, also proves this to me. Saying that CS is fanservice is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks Obisgirl for posting that tweet from Adam, which goes to show that these guys are the telling the story they planned from the beginning. It’s THEIR story and it’s what they want to tell! So even if Emma ends up with Neal (which I don’t think will EVER happen!) I will have to respect that it’s the story Eddy and Adam want to tell. That’s all.
I am so excited to see where they go with this story and I am hoping for a lovely CS journey! I think Neal would be able to lose Emma to Hook graciously, because he’s lost her before. He let her go and moved on with his life by being with Tamara. He could see a life without Emma and was genuinely going to have one. Hook on the “other hand” (pun intended!), is completely different when it comes to love. It took him HUNDREDS of years to get over Milah, his first love. He never even thought he’d be able to do that! If Emma were proven to be his True Love but he lost her to Neal, I seriously doubt he’d just be able to move on with someone else, like Neal did with Tamara. I think it would be devastating to him and I really don’t want him to go through that. He’s already lost everyone who ever truly cared about him. It would be awful to see that again.
On a brighter note, I really don’t see things happening that way! CS seems to have been planned from the beginning and I can’t wait for Hook and Emma to have their happy ending together.
oncemusicfanParticipantNeal wouldn’t want to be 14 again anyway because of Henry. Thanks for answering Eala, but how do you explain Hook’s sulkiness when Emma told BOTH him and Neal that the person she would choose is Henry. I agree Hook was right when he said Emma had to choose (It wouldn’t be fair for either man to be strung along)yet it did seem like he assumed Emma would end up picking him over Neal especially when he uses phrases like “When I win” and “I will win” Also Hook’s behaviour towards Neal was very offish considering Hook is supposed to “care” for Neal. It seemed like Hook was constantly trying to assert his dominance over Neal and prove to Emma that he was the “better man” but not in the good way. It’s like Hook was trying to prove his manliness to Emma. Hook with his attitude and behaviour this episode reminded me of Gaston from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. What are your thoughts, Eala?
I know that your question is directed at Eala (who gives AWESOME answers, btw) , but I thought I’d give my opinion. I think Hook’s “assumption” that Emma would choose him over Neal was nothing more than innocent confidence. Hook cares for Emma deeply and sees her as an equal. He would never (nor COULD he ever) force her to do anything. He’s very perceptive when it comes to her and could see that she is becoming more open to him, so that gave him the confidence to make those statements. I don’t see Hook as a Gaston because Gaston is VERY self-centered, and we have seen that Hook is the complete opposite of that so far this season.
In regards to Neal, I think Hook cares for him a lot! However, there is so much going on in Neverland right now and not a lot of time to process complex emotions. Hook wasn’t expecting Neal to be alive either. His mission so far has been save Henry first, then pursue Emma. But when they heard about Neal being alive, that added another element that he wasn’t expecting. It might have been too much for him to process at the moment. Neal is older and doesn’t want to be known as “Bae” anymore, so maybe it’s hard for Hook to see him as that young boy he cared so much for. Still, I think Neal does mean something to Hook and I think we’ll get to some nice moments between them in the future, even if it seems weird right now.
oncemusicfanParticipantSo.. I absolutely LOVED this episode! You all have brought up some great points in regards to Neal’s reaction to Emma using magic and how he possibly feels about that. I totally agree that he is learning she’s a different person now than she used to be. Here are some other thoughts I had on this episode!
1. When Emma, Hook and Neal were off to find Pan’s shadow and Neal needed something to cut the plants with, Emma whips out his old sword. (She almost sliced Hook’s face in the process though! Poor guy.) What I liked about Neal finding out that Hook gave Emma that sword, is what it says about Hook. Hook tells Neal that he thought Emma would wish to have something to remember him by. This shows how considerate and caring he is for Emma’s feelings. He lost Milah and kept her picture with him. He didn’t even destroy Bae’s shawl that he stole from Rumple because Milah made it. He understands what it’s like to lose someone you love and he IS sentimental. Having items around to remember Milah by gave him some comfort, and he wanted Emma to have the same comfort when she thought Neal had died. He recognized that she was hurting and, in my mind, giving her Neal’s sword was Hook’s way of putting his arms around her to console her, since he couldn’t physically do that at the time without Emma (or Charming) probably punching him in the face. Anyway, this is just another example of how Hook supports her, cares for her feelings, and totally understands who she is.
2.) The “When I win your heart…” speech was amazing! I love Hook’s confidence! I didn’t find it pushy or like he was pressuring Emma at all! I felt that it was romantic, and I kind of got annoyed when Neal came back and broke the moment so soon. If they weren’t in Neverland and if Henry wasn’t being held captive by Psycho Pan, and if Emma had time to process her feelings, I’m completely sure there would have been a kiss! What I liked so much about their conversation is that it showed Hook’s belief IN Emma. He thinks she’s amazing and has no doubt that she’ll rescue her son. That’s why he felt comfortable talking about their potential relationship, even with Henry being in danger. Because Hook knows that Henry WILL be rescued. Hook knows it will all be ok, and when it is, Emma will have to make a choice of who she wants to be with. And at this point, it’s pretty clear who that is, even if Emma isn’t ready to process it yet.
3.) Many of you have mentioned that Neal represents Emma’s past and Hook represents her future. I could not agree more with that and the scene with Pan’s shadow definitely proved this theme! That scene was so indicative of where the writers are leaning with this triangle (or non-triangle). The fact that Emma screamed Hook’s name when he was in danger, while Neal screamed her name is VERY interesting. It’s as if Neal screaming Emma’s name symbolizes him wanting to bring her back to the past, but she’s already moved on to her future (symbolized by her screaming for Hook). Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that’s what I took from that scene.
4.) That look between Neal and Tink…TinkerFire? Just sayin.’
Amazing episode overall!!! I really can’t wait for Henry to be rescued and for them to get back to Storybrooke so that the “fun begins” as Hook said. Excited for more CS scenes to come!!!
oncemusicfanParticipantIt’s so incredibly ridiculous to claim ownership for things like Emma’s bug. Like hot chocolate and cinnamon are strictly a Charmings thing, or sharing rum is only a CS thing. That is the kind of thinking that leads to petty ‘shipper wars. And I seriously hate petty ‘shipper wars. OMG, ‘shipper wars in general can get so ridiculous. Emma has a car. She uses it to get around, it’s a car, it’s hers and if she wants to invite Hook in it — she can do that because it’s hers.
I AGREE.
oncemusicfanParticipant@ Captain Eala- Good point about Hook’s pirate clothes! I never considered them as a sort of protection for him, so I appreciate that perspective! Also, I saw that video you posted on Youtube the other day and I LOVE it! The Civil Wars is my favorite band ever, so their song PLUS CaptainSwan is just…..I HAVE NO WORDS!!!! FEELS!!!
Love the CS artwork I’m seeing! Really cool! I admire the confidence most of you guys have in this thread that CS is indeed endgame! I desperately want to believe that, but then I start reading stuff from SF shippers and I get a little nervous for my CS ship. I don’t know why. Everything we’ve seen so far indicates that Hook and Emma are meant to be….but I’m always concerned that the writers will go in a different direction. I love what they’ve done so far, and I trust that the writers are telling a great story. So hopefully, they will continue to do that and CS will be endgame! *fingers crossed*
oncemusicfanParticipant@ Stelio Kontos- Great pics! I will definitely keep voting! SO excited that CS is even nominated!!!!
Okay…so I have some thoughts/questions about the spoiler pic of Emma and Hook with the yellow bug, that I want to share.
First off, when I saw the picture (and the video) I had a hard time BREATHING because I was SO EXCITED!!!! But I have to ask…WHY is Hook still in that pirate outfit?? It seems that everyone has changed clothing, except for him. I’m assuming the quest for revenge doesn’t require any wardrobe changes (it seems that Hook isn’t a big fan of those, as we know from his comment to Rumple on the ship). The leather outfit is cool and everything, but I REALLY want to see Hook in modern day clothes, even if it’s just for an episode or two. We’ve gotten to see all of these classic story book/ fairy tale characters in a modern way with current fashion. It’s really fun to see! I just hope we get to see how Hook dresses in our world.
Also, I’d think he would want to impress Emma if they are really going on a date. So, I think he would try to wear something other than the same outfit we’ve seen him wear in almost every single episode to date. I know it seems trivial to the overall story, but I MUST SEE Hook in modern clothes!!!! Maybe it’s just the fashionista in me!
As much as I’d LOVE for it to be a date though, I’m not entirely convinced that it is. I’ve seen other pics where Neal is clearly next to Emma and they could be back together. So, obviously, we have no clue what’s going on! It’s a bit frustrating to have no context with these spoiler pics, but that’s what I get for being impatient and rushing to read/see any spoiler I can! I just want Emma and Hook to have a happy ending, together.
