ParticipantDid Bae really love his father in his Dark One state considering how frightened/disappointed he was in him? It seemed like Belle loved Rumpy anyway (not like she had known him any way) but thought she could further improve his life. Charming was still willing to die for Snow White in her darkened state with just the hope of her remembering and loving him again.

ParticipantI was reminded of this article http://vancouverisawesome.com/2011/12/09/yvrshoots-once-upon-a-time-is-fall-tvs-biggest-new-hit/ that I read about the production of the first season. It helps you gauge the pacing of how filming goes and why they have to start in July. (Especially since they give the actors a Christmas holiday break.)

ParticipantThe article is from Chicago, which is in Central Time.
There has been zero change to Once Upon a Time’s Schedule. Sundays at 8pm/7pm C still. The only change is the two shows that now follow it are different.

ParticipantHaha, actually Emma is currently falling popularity. It’s been in the top 10 since 2002, and was number 1 in 2008. ( I believe that was when Emily was finally dethroned.) But it has since been dropping.
It’s interesting because you’ll often find TV shows will pick a name for their adult character that only recently gained popularity for babies and so it’s often anachronistic. (Dr. Addison Montgomery, anyone? 40 years ago people Addison wasn’t even in the top 1000 for girls. It was moderately popular for boys thought. 😉 ) I’ve met a baby Emma or two. In the year our Emma would have been born, the name ranked 399. Oh well, she was born in fairy tale land 😉 She’s fortunate she wasn’t named Blue Bird or something.

ParticipantMaybe I’m missing something because of the late hour.
So Disney’s revenue is up. ABC Studios (co-production company of Once) is up. Did you feel this was foreshadowing on Once’s renewal?

I wish they’d included a start-back date in this renewal news but apparently ABC likes the idea of ‘delayed gratification’.
Oh Tuna, you have such high hopes. The 2011 premiere dates for ABC were announced in late June. In 2010, it was early July. I get the impression they want to see the writers turn in some scripts before they announce a return date.

ParticipantAlso ridiculously rare, a genre show surviving on one of the broadcast networks.
Season 4 of Alias also ran non-stop January-May. The later Lost seasons also all did runs from Jan/Feb-May. They were both on ABC. It’s just something channels can do when they have a show that is very very serialized. They found the ratings did better than having 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, 3 weeks on, 1 one week off blah blah blah. People would forget what was going on or not be able to follow the storyline very well and just give up. Just knowing your show would be on that day/time without fail was helpful.
Still to have enough in the can to run nonstop like that, they STILL have to start filming in July. Usually the writers go back to writing in June. You’ll note at the late July Comic Con last year that they had already resumed filming. Once films 8-9 days per episode.
However, Once can only return in January IF they move days actually. You just can’t run straight through on Sundays because there’s too many awards shows and sporting events to pre-empt for. I think moving days/times would be a bad idea. But we’ll have to see what ABC decides.

ParticipantI think they use the Disney stuff because they can. They were given free reign of the Disney vault, tons of free material, no copyright infringement. And the most familiar material to I’m going to hazard, the majority of their audience. Tons of people honestly haven’t ever read the fairy tales anymore. A lot of people don’t know what really happened to the little mermaid.
It was sort of a given once you found out a) Snow White was awakened by a kiss b) the dwarfs had their Disney names and c) Jiminy Cricket vs. nameless cricket that you were going to see Disney characters.
If there is a Disney version of the story, I believe we will always see nods to it. If there’s no Disney version of it, then you have a much better chance of it focusing more on how it was originally.
At the same time, there just doesn’t seem to be a chance of us really getting the gruesomeness some original fairy tales had. The chopping off of body parts and I’m pretty sure cannibalism (all those roasted human hearts and livers people wanted to eat) isn’t going to pass an 8pm network tv standard. Admittedly, I’m not all that broken up about that particular aspect.

ParticipantI’m also willing to help, will help me have a good place to direct my obsessing once the season is over.

ParticipantYeah they also claimed there was some kind of behind the scenes vid they might show before the chat. Did you get that too?
