I didn’t know he was a series regular! That is depressing (not a huge Hook fan)….
But yes, Eddie and Adam have said many-a-time that the other actors can be in other shows/movies and *sometimes* it can be a scheduling nightmare, but it always works out in the end (i.e. Jamie came back for like a day to shoot the finale last season since he was in the UK filming a movie at the same time – he still came, shot, appeared, etc). 🙂
Depressing? I like Hook, and want him with Emma, but I wouldn’t be depressed if Neal stuck around too.
You are definitely entitled to like Hook and to want him with Emma. I dislike him… and do not want him with Emma 🙂
I agree with Toothfairy. Just because I don’t like a character doesn’t mean I want them dead. If you don’t like Hook, fine. If you don’t like Neal, fine. If you don’t like anybody else, fine. I know it’s just a character on a tv show, but yeeeeesh! Sorry, this is just my opinion, but I think the only one out there who anybody should be wishing dead is “The Dark One”, hopefully not meaning Rumpelstiltskin. That probably won’t happen for a long time (if, at all) though. It’s kind of like Lost In Space, or Star Trek Voyager. Once they’re not lost anymore, it’s show over.
I know it’s probably a pipe dream, but I’m still holding my candle in hopes they redeem Hook, rather than kill him. I’d like to see Colin O’Donoghue stay on OUAT for a good long time. It’ll make me really sad if they don’t.

This thread should probably be in a spoiler section. 😉 Hopefully anyone who sees the title and doesn’t read spoilers won’t click on it.

Would it surprise anyone to know that J.M. Barrie based the name Neverland on a play that came out in 1902 called The Never Never Land, written by Wilson Barrett.
Which wouldn’t be that far removed from how they chose Whale’s name.
I’ve entertained the idea that Ethan Embry could be several different people, and can’t wait to see who he’ll end up being. GoldenKey, those are certainly some good points, and a good argument for him being Peter Pan, (and you know I’m also Team PeterisBae).
One thing I can’t seem to shake about his character is that I’m sure that Barrett will have a connection to Neal, who I’m now pretty positive has to be Bae. I’ve said several times that I love the potential for Hook’s Neverland nemesis to have been the son of the Crocodile, and also that I love the idea that the boy who famously couldn’t grow up, ended up being the father of the only boy in SB who did grow up. And I’ve also said that my whole idea of Bae going to Neverland was because when he went into the beanhole alone, his needs changed, and he no longer had to go to a land where his father’s magic was void, he was now an orphan, so he went to the land where orphaned boys went.
A couple of those points could still stand if Bae didn’t necessarily become Peter Pan, but did become one of the Lost Boys. The major sacrifice of my theory would be that it would no longer be the Crocodile’s son who became Hook’s Neverland nemesis, which is a bit of a bummer, because I think that would be fun for them to do.
However, now I’m thinking of this new possible theory, I could get on board with the idea that Barrett was Peter and Bae was just a Lost Boy. When Emma and Hook were on the beanstalk, he seemed to mention the Lost Boys with some sort of fondness, (which I know is one of the arguments people use for Hook being Peter), which could work if Bae was a Lost Boy and he and Hook had actually had a good relationship in Neverland. Much as I think it’d be fun to see Hook and Bae as enemies, I could also like the opposite, if Hook found Milah’s son and they were able to be friends, (which couldn’t have happened if Bae was Peter). The more I think about it, the more I like the potential of Bae having been a Lost Boy who Hook got along with. Imagine Rumple’s reaction if his son comes to town and treats Hook like a long lost friend. Yowza! Or even if Hook and Bae had had a falling out and were no longer friends, it’d still rile Rumple right up that they had ever had a friendly relationship in the past.
If Barrett was Peter, and he and at least one of the Lost Boys (Bae) got stuck in our world, remained friends as they grew up, but always with Peter being the one in charge in the relationship, that could explain why Barrett would come to SB first, while Neal hasn’t come anywhere near town yet. Perhaps it’s a case of the “big brother” coming to suss things out, instead of letting his “little brother” go walking unprepared, straight into a firestorm of angst that is the town with his former lover and his cursed father.
That’s assuming that Barrett and Neal do know each other, which may be completely off base of course, but like I said, I can’t shake the feeling that they’ll be connected.
This is a great theory. If you’re right about this, it’ll be interesting to see how Hook and Barrett (Peter) may interact as grown adults, as opposed to adult-to-child. Now that they’re both grown men, this can either influence things in a positive way, or may pour gas over a hot flame (in a very negative way). I guess we’ll have to wait and see/

ParticipantAgain, I’d like to see the peak of this story take the high road. That would send a much better message than solving a problems by killing (yet, another death), or with revenge.

Neither Hook nor Rumple are the type to forget and forgive. Hook has spent too long focussed on his quest for revenge to let Rumple get away with what he did. The two characters can’t coexist peacefully in the same town. Either one has to kill the other or Hook has to leave Storybrooke.
I don’t know, people do change.
I know that from first-hand experience .

Maybe he won’t really be dead.

I’m assuming he plans to kill Rumple by stabbing him with the dagger. I speculated recently that Hook would in fact stab him, but it wouldn’t kill him, and Belle’s love would somehow save him, and then the Dark One curse will cease to exist because it can’t go back into Rumple, and if Rumple’s not dead, then it can’t move on to someone new either. If something like that happened, Hook would inadvertantly save Rumple’s soul whilst attempting to kill him, which would be sort of poetic…and would piss Hook right off…the moment he’s been plotting for almost 300 years, and it all goes completely wrong…talk about unsatisfying revenge.
Or, it could teach Hook a good lesson about how good always defeats evil, and which side of the fence he’d be better served to be standing on.

ParticipantI don’t see any reason to kill Hook. I’d like for him to stick around for a good long time. I know he can’t be the main focus of the show and can’t be around all the time, but I wish no ill will on the character.
Personally, I’d like to see Hook and Rumple settle their differences; in other words, forgiveness. That’d illustrate a much better message than killing off a character.

ParticipantIf this is true (and, this is the internet so that is a big IF), I’m sure he’s just lining up work for when Once goes on it’s next break between seasons 2 and 3. Actors do that all the time. No big deal.

Participant* My favorite character: Hook
* My least favorite moments:
— Charming family seperation between FTL and SB (the seperation was way too long in my opinion)
— Hook hitting Belle (I know I believed there was more to it than met the eye, but this was unncessary and the writers should have known better than to do that whether the character was evil or not). They’ve got to find a way to recoup from that incident.
* My favorite episode: Draw between Queen of Hearts, and the first episode of the season (when Emma became a believer) -
