I don’t think the writers would ever think of viewers as rag dolls, in the end we are their source of income. But when they start a show with a clear idea in their mind, it’s hard to change it “because the viewers want it”, sometimes it wouldn’t make sense to the story they want to tell. I believe Once is not one of those shows that wonder in random directions according to fans’ wishes but that the writers actually have a clear idea of where they want the series to go and that they have a plan they need to stick to in order for the story to remain logical.
I agree. A good artist creates a work of art a certain way because it says what they want to say, not because they want it to be popular….
But, what good is that, if the only thing it benefits is the satisfaction of one’s vain imagination? After all, according to legend, Ceasar did play his violin while Rome burned.

Um, ok…..that doesn’t really sound the kind of plot line K&H would use for OUAT.
Bae/PP strung out on drugs? Crack pipe? Mmmm, nah, I can’t get on board with that.
Hook’s dad addicted to opium? His brother kills himself? Again, just don’t see it.
Especially because that is way too detailed to get into….the show is not centered on Hook. That goes waaay off, plotwise.Yeah, I can see that. That’s why I just said it’s an idea. I don’t think it should literally be used but having written fanfic in the past (the clean stuff, and it’s been a long time), I know sometimes someone’s idea can very easily give birth to another; even, if seemingly unrelated.

ParticipantThis question may have already been asked, but Belle doesn’t know RS has actually killed someone, does she?
Does she know he killed Milah, and that’s why Hook wants this information? Not that it would make any difference, except that Belle seems to have a gift for waiting to look at things from someone else’s point of view.
Maybe Hook doesn’t know Belle doesn’t know that. If he thought she did know that and was protecting RS anyway, maybe in his mind, she’d be an accomplice to the crime.

ParticipantFor Hook to drop his revenge, there would have to be a defining moment; a moment which highlights who he chose to become, and where that brought him. If Hook *thought* he succeeded in his revenge, then noticed it 1.) Didn’t bring back Milah, 2.) Didn’t bring him any satisfaction because he still felt that “hole in his heart” he had used her to fill and 3.) Maybe there was more to that need for something in his life, than Milah. Maybe something else was wrong. Then, realizing his life’s choices and where that brought him…what was absent from his life…..love. Real love. Not just the love of a woman, but his realization of the satisfaction that comes from loving ….and it’s retroactive on satisfaction with himself.
What would bring that about? On TVline, I wrote a suggestion for a story line. Now, I know the show’s writers are unionized and can’t use ideas from fans, but here’s an idea that who knows, could give birth to another:
Peter Pan is a young teenager (remember: In the story, he’s a boy of about 14 and nobody’s aged in storybrooke, in 28 years. Now the curse has been broken, and he’s started to age. Let’s say he’s 16 now). There are some good foster parents out there, but he’s a foster child who is in the care of some not-so-great ones (something Emma will identify with). Peter has been from home, to home, to home, and has gotten into a bad crowd. This crowd is into drugs, teen sex, and he’s already going to be a father…with a drug and alcohol addiction. And, he’s a cutter (cuts himself).
Peter ends up in the police station one day after school because of a drug sweep that found a crack pot in his book bag. Hook happens to be in the station when he is brought in. He and Peter recognize eachother, but don’t say anything to Emma. As the story progresses, Hook is hit by this because of memories from his own childhood. His father was abusive; addicted to alcohol and opium. His brother followed suit, and it ended up destroying his family, and eventually took his life. He has a personal connection to knowing the consequences of addiction. Nevertheless, Hook is still Hook. He feels like his great and worthy opponent was taken from him. He knows this is RS’s son but how can he use him, if the kid is strung up on drugs and alcohol. Hook tells Peter he’s going to to exactly what he says and how he says, or he’ll end up taking him out. As time progresses, Peter (Baelfire) learns RS is his Dad, and he wants nothing to do with him. Hook learns Peter needed a father figure and all he ever wanted, knowing that he loved his mother was for him to love Peter, too. Peter ran with this bad crowd, because he mistook their friendship for love. He didn’t get it. That’s what lead him into drugs. That’s what almost killed him. After the lesson of learning that his quest for revenge brought nothing to his life (before, or even after he only *thought* he succeeded), and after learning what happened to Peter, Hook feels convicted in a belief that he may have had a hand in this somewhere. Eventually as events progress, he even develops concern for the boy’s future; he, and Emma both do (that’s what unites them).
That’s not the whole story, but it’s the skeleton that could help become one. A good one, too. This is not exactly what I think the writers should use, but it’s an example to show there are lots of ideas out there. There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and nothing is impossible if you have the right writers.oncewatcher
ParticipantI’m still holding out hope they’ll:
1.) keep Hook on the show
and
2.) Later, have him soul-searching, convicted for being evil, slowly turning into a good(ish) guy at some point in the long run. Never squeaky clean, but not evil either.oncewatcher
ParticipantI’m one of the people out there who really wants to see Colin O’Donoghue stay on the show. Such a good job has been done with his character (Hook), I think a lot of people will be really disappointed if Hook gets killed off. I’m a little concerned, because 1: OUAT is killing off way too many people in my opinion and 2: There’s not been any more new Hook news past the next episode. This makes me wonder if that’s already happened; if the show’s already done him in. That’s why I’ve been asking for more news at wetpaint, and vancity. Nothing new, and so I fear my fears may be well founded. I am hoping I’m wrong. If I’m not, I might still watch the show, but I’ll certainly be disappointed. It’ll mean some great opportunities have been wasted, and some great possibilities will never be realized.

ParticipantBut does “regular” mean permanent cast member? If it does, I’ll be thrilled. Thanks for the link.

ParticipantI couldn’t agree, more.

ParticipantThe reason I see Hook as a great character, is because of one thing: Potential. Rumpel, and Hook share one big thing in common: Their profiles carry the freedom for the writers to write them out of their mold. Like I said in another post: It’s like a Russian Nesting Doll. You open up one, and there’s another possibilitiy in there waiting to be opened. As for Regina, or David’s father: I can’t put my finger on “why”, but to me, I don’t see so much freedom for the writers to do that. They seem in my mind, to carry a predispositon to the consequences of the decisions they made at their point of origin; to be evil. Maybe it’s because in Hook’s case, his negativity is directed at one individual. In their cases, it’s directed at everyone because they thirst for power and domination. In Rumpel’s case, he hates the albatross of being the “dark one”. If he could become a good guy again and lose that part of him, I think he’d love to. I think if Hook learned that hatred consumes the hating much as the hater, he’d probably be a better guy, too.

ParticipantHook. Captain Hook is definitely my favorite character. The reason, is because he has so much potential for his character’s profile to move out of it’s mold. The possibilities are endless, and could promise a lot of good entertainment for a long time to come.
