I. Just. Do not. Get it.
Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s just that the writers don’t care about making their characters consistent. When they wanted to sell him as the romantic hero, they whitewashed him and ignored how he should realistically act. Now their plot needs him to be dark again, so SURPRISE he’s regressed.
Thanks, I was starting to feel as if I had read things into things that weren’t a thing. I just thought that with Hook saying, ‘I was the villain in that scenario’ he finally got it. He seemed to have acknowledged his role in that. Which lead me to believe he had laid the Rumple history to rest. But yeah apparently PLOT says no.

OnyxParticipantAnd that was the last anyone ever saw of Belle…

OnyxParticipantYeah I get that… I don’t know, I guess after 10 episodes it feels like that was something Hook would’ve done something about sooner. To me it feels like Normal!Hook was not concerned with Rumple (good or bad) and now that he’s Dark!Hook, he’s all of a sudden only all about Rumple revenge again, without… I don’t know, trying to find a way (for him AND Emma) to not be the Dark One anymore?? Seems to me a more pressing matter than ancient Rumple revenge.
Perhaps that’s just me thinking the writers would come up with something that they haven’t done before.

OnyxParticipantI. Just. Do not. Get it. I thought Hook was over his revenge. Way back when, he stabbed Rumple and in his mind (because he didn’t know Rumple surivived at the time) he had completed his task. He had taken his revenge. And then I believe he mentioned in one episode or another, that the revenge did not really satsify him. So now after all this time, he’s STILL hung up on it? After Neverland, after time travel, after FROZEN, after getting the girl he wanted.
And even though I have my own thoughts on CS. I thought Hook was happy with Emma and just living his life with her and stuff. In other words, I thought Hook really didn’t care about Rumple one way or the other anymore. Yes there was the heart taking thing and almost sucking Emma into a hat thing, but time has past since then and Hook kinda didn’t do anything about that. (There was me thinking, that was Hook knowing how revenge hadn’t sated him in the past, so why would it now?)
My point is, this revenge thing feels a little out of the blue for me. It shouldn’t, because I know Hook has obsession and grudge holding issues. However it wasn’t brought to the front of the stage for some time now.
Okay yes, I can see how his rather vicious ‘bloody crocodile’ mentions to Belle were probably supposed to be a clue that he still bears that grudge (heavily), but to me that was just Hook being Hook. He’s always called him that and he always didn’t like Rumple, whether the latter was being evil or trying to be a good man.
And I know why Hook didn’t display any DO symptoms. They needed the element of surprise on their side and so they couldn’t have Hook seeing Rumple, or having sparkly make-up. But what’s the explanation in the story itself?

I’m both going AWESOME (because I love when the show has continuity with characters who aren’t our mains) and WTH (because I can’t see how they can possibly manage this well when even our mains–hi Onyx–don’t get the screentime they deserve sometimes).
Exactly my thoughts too. I’m excited to see faces of the past, but at the same time, I just know Once isn’t equipped to deal with awesomeness of these proportions. In the past they had Pan, Hook, Tink and Wendy, and look how much they interacted. These ‘villains of all kinds’ could make for an riveting and interesting combination. But uhm yeah…

OnyxParticipantWell since we were all expressing gratefulness, I might as well express mine. No matter how I feel about the show now, I feel grateful for the first season. Even when I watch it now and really let myself get lost in that world again, not thinking about any season beyond that first one, I feel happy. The story was good, really good. The characters and twists were amazing and new and fresh. I loved it and I will continue to love it. The fact that the show as it is currently, isn’t very good, does not mean it was always bad. It got me interested (again) in the true origins of fairy tales and in the end, books in general.
I’m also grateful that it brought me my Sad Twin (I miss you!!), The Ranch and Puck. <3

OnyxParticipantHm, the thing with the Hook/Belle situation is that it does have the potential to be a good friendship. However, right now, as it’s written, it’s mostly one-sided. The only moment Hook briefly focused on Belle and tried to make her feel better was in the library when he told her that Rumple did love her. Since then it’s always been about him. And that last scene, when he barged in and basically demanded answers from Belle with no consideration for how she might feel talking about Rumple, the Dark One and her failed TLK of the past, that was just all about him and his feelings.
If they want to sell this friendship, they need to start showing Hook caring about Belle’s feelings. She gives him emotional support, but he doesn’t do the same for her (save for that library moment).
Co-Mayor of Sad Town | Twin of Co-Mayor of Sad Town
OnyxParticipantThis isn’t just about Hook wanting to free Emma from the dark one curse, this is Hook rejecting Emma just because there’s something “wrong” with her. That is not true love at all. That is not even love.
So much this. True love is all about accepting each other completely. That’s why Rumbelle had it. Belle accepted Rumple even with his dark side.
I do suspect the writers are trying to say: hey look Hook is rejecting darkness, he’s on his way to be good (or: he’s already good). However, that’s not how that scene translates at all. I think Emma is playing him though. Whatever the case, it doesn’t show love. Not Hook rejecting ‘the darkness of Emma’, nor Emma using/manipulating him to gain whatever it is she needs to gain. That’s where Rumple went wrong, remember. And he actually had someone who loved him unconditionally. But CS has their own set of rules, so nothing will come of this entire thing. They shall live happily ever after even if it kills the show.

OnyxParticipantApparently I’ve come to terms with the CS-ness. Their failed kiss, failed to spark any joy. I mean let’s face it, they created a fail-safe with TLK and they are realising this after 4 seasons and are now trying to come up with ways to not kill their own story lines in just a few seconds.
I don’t really care if they do have TL. And I’m not just saying that to make myself feel better. The only reason I would care, is, I don’t want romance to be the solution for Emma. Emma has always saved herself. She’s always been the one to get by without any help from anyone.
But whatevs, wouldn’t be the first time they assassinated a character.
