True. I think that they think making him Killian Jones again suffices. You know, that all it takes for Hook to be redeemed is to have him not be a pirate anymore.

Maybe Elsa can give him an ice hand. :p

Lol. While I haven’t been confronted with any other versions of Hook yet, I really hope I can seperate the OUAT version from all the others. It’s the OUAT version I have issues with. I don’t think I want to allow Once to ruin any character for me beyond the show itself. Probably won’t be too hard though, since none of the characters are actually like other versions of themselves anymore. We now have the Once fairy tales and the originals. They have nothing to do with each other, which is fine by me, cause that means I don’t have to try so hard to enjoy the originals without being reminded of Once all the time.

I sound bitter again, but I’m actually not so much. Not today anyway.

@Sad Twin, That is quite beautiful. There’s all kinds of truth in there. Very accurate too.

@RG, Yes! Thanks for posting it, couldn’t figure out how to embed it.

He says it’s something he really loves, which makes me even happier for him. I thought some more about that glove thing, cause I’m seeing it in his time line. Even right up till the end he gives his best in that scene. He could’ve simply done his job, do what was in the script, but no he kept up the quality in his work when any other might think, well this is my last appaearance on this show why bother. He never loses class, which is one of the many reasons I like him so much (as a person as well as an actor).

People don’t get how hard it is to swear off a thing that you’ve been so dedicated to. It’s easy to say “don’t watch” but it’s much harder to do it. Take Slurpeez for example. She didn’t want to watch anymore after 315, but decided to stick it out for the rest of the season to see Neal’s death would ever make sense or be reversed. They still don’t make sense (to me) and it’ll never be reversed. But the fact is, I got way more involved with this show than I intended and now I’m stuck. And my judgement of the show–as something once beautiful that has lost its way–is just as valid as those who would claim that the show is still perfect and wonderful simply because their ship/favorite character “won”

So glad you said this. Because this is something I see almost everywhere. When one is critical or expresses displeasure about something on the show, the “advice” is always to not watch. Although I get the feeling that those who say this, aren’t as involved in the first place. It might be easy for them to walk away, but what would happen if all the critics of all creative outlets were to shut up and walk away? Then we’d live in a world where all the music, books and movies and whatnot get great reviews, despite the work not living up to its full potential. Yes creators everywhere would probably feel pretty happy, but they would never improve.

Btw, just saw a tweet from MRJ, looks like he’s moving on to better things. Good for him.

Thanks RG and thank you my dear Sad Twin, my words are by no means as eloquent as yours often are, but I try. *hugs*

Warning: rant coming up. I felt encouraged to write my own grievances down when I read that essay that Slurp posted. You may skip if uninterested.

Can anyone tell me why I’m still in pain? I thought by now, that I might have healed a little. But every time I log in here to post something, it all sounds snarky and bitter and sad. I don’t understand why, because it’s just a show, or so I try to keep telling myself. Yet I can’t shake this dire feeling. It’s not even about a ship anymore. I think it stopped being about a mere ship a long while ago. It’s the message. The message that Once sends its viewers. The bad guys get their happy endings and the good guys are allowed to play a part in their ever important road to redemption every now and then.

Hook, I can’t even. This character is so… He’s their shiniest toy of all. I used to like him really, honestly I did, but they’ve managed to make me resent him. Up until now I’ve never admitted it out loud, but Hook often reminded me of one of those guys on the street corner who whistle at you and when you walk by they cat-call, follow you around a bit, make you feel uncomfortable and in danger until they’ve had their fun scaring you and slink back into the shadows. That time when he was with Emma in the giant’s lair and she pulled him back to prevent him from triggering a trip wire. When Hook didn’t immediately let go, but in fact held on to her for several seconds more while she was trying to get out of his grasp, it was quite shocking to me and it left me feeling very uneasy. It reeked of harassment. But that was at a time where he was still a new character and I was willing to wait and see. Hook is now a mere shadow of the wonderful character JM Barrie created so long ago. The only thing connecting him to Barrie’s Hook now is the hook on his arm, which I suspect will soon enough be replaced by that leather gloved prosthetic hand, effectively making him Killian Jones, the entirely redeemed love of Emma’s life.

Yes Once twists its characters and turns them into their own versions, however, lately I feel there’s been too much twisting going on. So much so that they’ve basically stripped them down to the core and built their own versions around it. Don’t even get me started on how highly demeaning I found it how they dumbed down Snow during her entire pregnancy (and maybe even before that?). I felt insulted on behalf of all pregnant ladies around the world. As if when one becomes pregnant, one loses their common sense along with it. Snow was strong, confident and her own woman aside from Charming. This was one reason why I could get through the CS movie that was the finale, because for a brief moment, we were reminded how incredibly cool Snow was. All the characters have in common with their literary counterparts now are their names.

And then, something we’ve all joked about many times, but after three seasons of it, it’s starting to become less and less funny. Plot holes, loopholes and continuity errors. Create rules for yourself and STICK to them. Ok you don’t wanna kill Rumpelstiltskin (and let Bobby go)? Then figure out another fricken way to kill Pan. Here’s an idea, how about let the saviour come up with the solution for a change.

The dark curse. Heart of the thing you love most you say? Well how about the heart of the thing most convenient to plot, says Peter Pan.

Snowing living on with 2 half hearts? Romantic idea, but it completely diminishes the price of the curse. Ok yes not everyone can survive if they wanted to do the same thing, because Snowing’s love is special, but really, don’t create rules for one person and then change em for the next. Don’t create scenarios to which you cannot find a logical and honest solution.

Wand of the black fairy? Who on earth is the fricken black fairy??? If you want this wand to be taken seriously, create a story around it. What’s its origin? Why is it dark? How did Rumple get it? And how did the Blue fairy get it from Rumple? If you don’t back these things up with some sort of substance, the audience will not feel the weight of your so called wand of doom and dark magic and a dark fairy who we’ve never seen. It becomes a thing to ridicule. Oh look someone needs some powerful magic, better get the wand of the Black fairy. I mean… what??

Here’s another idea: how about you write something about her, the Black fairy? Yeah novel idea isn’t it? You want new characters, there’s one right there. Waiting to be written. Oh and by new, I mean new. Not an existing character who is also…

That whole ‘no they wouldn’t do that’ excuse I keep/kept telling myself no longer works either, because they would and they did. They wouldn’t do another triangle, would they? Yes they would. They wouldn’t make Emma do a 180 on Hook in the final 2 eps would they? Yes they would. The rug was pulled out from under me, when they did these things.

Normally I would’ve wished Once to go on for as long as possible, but now I’m kind of hoping s4 will be the last. Not out of any malice or spite, but more out of compassion almost. Like a terminally ill animal, just put it out of its misery. Stop digging holes for yourselves, stop ruining characters from great fairy tales we’ve all grown up with. Just stop it.

As for those who would say: don’t like, don’t watch. Well let me quote Jack Dawson to you: I’m involved now.

You know what we haven’t seen yet? Rumple going to his son’s grave. Is there a reason why they show decided to skip that.

    Son? What son?

Oh you know. that one guy. Nick? Baysmoke?

I thought that was the name of the new Princling? Are you implying that Gold is really the father of the new royal? LE GASP! For shame!

No no no, don’t be silly Sad Twin. That Baysmoke guy, remember, he appeared in that alternate reality. The one where everyone was worse off for knowing him.

I’m now humming the jingle for Lowered Expectations (from MADtv I believe) in my head. Curse you Sad Twin!

How about Elsa freezes Hook completely, so Emma has to try and free him with TLK, but she can’t get near him. And there are woes (but none of any real substance, because that’s how Once rolls these days), which how they justify CS having their own hardship.

Haha sorry! And yes, that’s also a plausibel outcome. Just before Elsa freezes Hook though, he tells her to let her revenge go, because he knows what it’s like to hold onto the past. He knows how she feels and then proceeds to give an emotional speach about how love can be found again. Because look at him. Second chances. Neal. Who’s Neal? Oh yeah Snowing’s baby. Back to Hook now.

ETA: Thanks for the offer @Grimmsistr, but haven’t felt inspired to write anything lately. My muse is on hiatus, or possibly she’s on a permanent holiday, I’m not sure.

I’ll be here all summer, to help lower your expectations of this new season. I mean we wouldn’t want to get all hopeful and stuff. We all know what A&E do with hope. They CRUSH it.
