I simply thought he thanked Hook in general for it, since he said THE message not MY message. Suggesting he was grateful someone got a message to Emma at all. But yeah now with the confirmation that he was actually the one to send it makes the line sound kind of ambiguous.

Wait wasn’t that because Neal/Rumple were cursed along with everyone else? So he would also not remember anything about that missing year like everyone else. Which was why the convo between him and Hook about the message was a bit vague. Neal didn’t know HE was the one who sent it because he couldn’t remember. Right?
