ParticipantDidn’t mean to bring anyone down with that tweet. I guess I just never had any hopes or expectations about his return in the first place. Granted some theories sounded plausibel, even to me, but I don’t know, after those initial tweets by MRJ it felt over and done with.

ParticipantI feel like we’re missing all these little character development moments, things that would justify when characters start to do things we would otherwise consider to be OOC. What else happened that led up to Neal wanting to use Dark Magic? Was there a conversation he had with someone, or a previous course of action he had already been down that left THIS as his only course of action? We don’t get enough time with certain characters, and most of them don’t give us enough exposition for us to really know what they’re thinking vs. what we’re being shown visually to make up for it. Obviously A&E and the writing team think there are enough perfectly reasonable explanations for what the characters are doing, but they keep neglecting to SHOW US. We keep having to make it up for ourselves and it ruins out suspension of disbelief.
I said this other day to someone but 95% of conversations on this show happen off stage which greatly reduces the amount of development characters get.
It reduces the believability of the development. This moment of Neal using dark magic, might be preceded by months worth of stuff but until now (that someone mentions it) I never really gave much thought to what must have gone on during the time leading up to Belle and Neal finding the vault of goo. Perhaps it would not be ooc if we got to see how Neal got this point of not caring about the consequences.
@textbookone: You make too many great points for me to agree with them all seperately, so I’m gonna sit on your bandwagon and yell out AMEN!Co-Mayor of Sad Town | Twin of Co-Mayor of Sad Town

ParticipantWhile I love Frozen and all, I’m not so sure it’s such a good idea to bring them to Once. We do not need more characters (that will only be used for 1 episode most likely) and more story lines that come with them. We need to focus on the characters we already have. Resolve, move forward, develop, don’t create more stuff you don’t have the time to flesh out properly for.

ParticipantWhy is everyone so OOC right now??
Zelena gave them all a potion to make em act the total opposite of who they usually are. :p

ParticipantPeople are saying that Hook has changed for Emma, but that is an immediate hallmark of an unhealthy relationship. When people change for another person they are often denying who they actually are. It can breed resentment and anger when the other person is either unsatisfied (feeling like they’ve changed so much, but their partner still isn’t happy), or betrayed (when it seems like the partner hasn’t tried to accommodate for them at all). I’ve been in those kinds of relationships, and I’ve seen them happen to other people. No one is ever happy in the end. If change is going to occur it needs to be at someones own choice, because they want to be a better person themselves, and not because someone is trying to get another person’s attention, or to prove that they can be the mate that they think another person wants. Maybe that’s what Hook is actually doing, either consciously or subconsciously, but there is a certain dishonesty to it that bothers me, and I have a really hard time believing that anything True Love related could exist or be created with a foundation like that. I have a whole separate thing related to this for Swanfire, but I’ve somehow been typing this for 15 minutes and I need to get ready for work. I’ll try and think through my points on the subway and give you the back half later today.
Yes! This! I was thinking the exact same thing. You don’t change for others (to make them like you more), you change for you, because you WANT to. He did the same thing with Bae, actually. He literally said to him: I can change Bae, for you. He’s always doing it for others. He should start changing for himself and if he feels he doesn’t need to for himself, then I think that says enough.

ParticipantThese days I tend to lean more towards ‘they got lucky on that one’ than ‘wow that’s cleverly thought out’.
It occurred to me that while I understand they are writing Hook as conflicted over what his future life is, they’re making him so conflicted that his personality changes from scene to scene in 317. Scene 1) With Emma on the Docks, gives big speech about not going back to the life you once had (this is Reformed Pirate Killian Jones) Scene 2) with Henry at Granny’s, teaching Henry how to cheat and that all that matters is winning (this is total Captain Hook)
And in turn, that makes the audience just as confused I think, if not a bit incredulous.

ParticipantI don’t even really understand when Hook is supposed to have fallen for Emma.
The NL kiss.
To that I say:
Sorry couldn’t help myself. 😉 Btw, good point on the Blackbeard/Bae parallel. I can only hope it was indeed intentional. These days I tend to lean more towards ‘they got lucky on that one’ than ‘wow that’s cleverly thought out’.
