ouatrandothoughtsParticipant
I haven’t actually watched the episode yet, but WOW guys. Sounds like…it doesn’t have Rumple in it and every other likeable character acts completely out of character. WOW.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantI thought I was getting over it, but I think what’s really holding me back is the creative betrayal I feel. I really looked up to A&E, they were my inspiration in a lot of ways. I have screenwriting ambitions, and I’m actually starting to second guess them I’m so cynical about the whole thing. That’s so depressing.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantI can’t stop thinking about how fatalistic and depressing killing Neal off is…and how it doesn’t encourage growth in ANY of the characters. Ugh, I wish I could just get over it, but I can’t.
Don’t worry. Neither can we.
I started reading the Hollywood Reporter interview with A&E and I’m literally shaking with anger at them. [insert expletives here] HOW CAN THEY BE SO FLIPPING SMUG IT MAKES ME WANT TO PUNCH A WALL.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantShe obviously took great pleasure in ordering Rumple to kill Belle, are we supposed to assume she really is in love with him, Fatal Attraction style?
Yeah, Phee, I don’t really think this is what they had in mind, it was an idle thought. Trying to make things count more in my head.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantThought I had at lunch during work yesterday:
Why did Zelena need Neal specifically to use the life for a life triangular exchange thing? I mean, beyond the needing/wanting to write MRJ out angle I’m assuming exists…why couldn’t she just manipulate some random Joe Schmo to do it? Did she just want revenge on Rumple for…IDEK what he’s supposed to have done except mock her pseudo crush on him…whatever, so she chose to bring him back by killing his son?
So I started thinking–you know what small detail would have made 315 make marginal more sense to me? Make it so the life exchange had to be by a blood relation. Blood magic (specifically between Rumple and Bae) was introduced at the beginning of the season, I could swing that as ironic foreshadowing. Zelena specifically targeting Neal because he was the ONLY ONE who could do it rather than Neal acting like an idiot because PLOT could have been much more strongly written. Heck, this theory isn’t even necessarily wrong, why she had Neal do it is kind of a mystery to me. If she’d kept Neal or the prospect of Neal being alive dangling in front of Rumple, wouldn’t he cooperate with her much more willingly?
I still wouldn’t like it AT ALL IN ANY WORLD EVER, but Neal sacrificing his life because he was literally the only who could bring Rumple back has much more narrative strength to me than what we got.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantMy heart is still trying to process this episode tonight (and trying to recover from Neal falling into the portal after he and Emma declared their love for each other) so I’m barely coherent right now, but if these two people aren’t together in the end living somewhere happily with Henry (and Snow & Charming and other family living nearby), then I will go postal in ways that are NOT HEALTHY.
I found this back on page 2 of the forums…so Heather, can I hold you to that rampage you promised?
I laugh to keep from crying.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantI’m “Ieyre” on ff.net on the off chance that my work is a known quantity to anybody (lol fanfiction fame, right below reality TV fame.)
I have! I have The Game saved on the ff.net app on my tablet! I was really good! I’ll start poking around at your other fics once I’ve cleared up my backlog of “to read”. ^_^
I did not even realize there WAS an FF.Net app, let alone that people were viewing my fic on it. That’s cool. It’s definitely my most SF-y, though the Emma and Gold chapter of my Law of the Sea story is pretty SF-heavy, too.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantI actually wanted to jump in on the Marty/POM “argument” and then it got shut down, darn it.
I think Marty’s point is that any “happy ending” they write for this family is going to be very trite and emotionally dishonest as things stand. If we’re going by “real world” standards (but why would we, really?) I think someone in Emma’s situation, somebody who has held the father of their child and first love in their arms as they died, COULD be happy, after years of therapy and healing. Do I think she’s going to get that? Um, no.
As for Rumple…the widely understood conventional happy ending for his character is marrying and having more children with Belle. If you believe that the character we’ve seen Robert Carlyle play for two and a half seasons would even WANT that after screwing up so badly with the first kid, I don’t think we’re watching the same show.
Okay, sorry, I stirred it up again.
(I realized I simplified Rumple’s potential happy ending but I truly believe that they’ve written themselves into a corner with that character.)

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantI thought my fanfic muse for this show had died permanently, and then yesterday I started writing the most insanely depressing Gold and Emma fic (you can guess what it deals with) and I started crying on the bus as I was doing it.
On that subject…in between seasons 2 and 3 I wrote my own version of Emma, Henry and Rumple reuniting with Neal in Neverland that is wildly AU now of course. I never posted it because I never quite got it worked out–would anyone here be interested? It’s very relevent to this thread’s interests.
