You know what I’ll REALLY miss about Neal? How normal he was. How he reacted to the absurd crap that happens in this show like an actual human being would. He’s pretty much the only male character (besides, ironically enough, his memory wiped son) that did that.
That was one of the things I really loved about his relationship with Emma. They both were so of OUR world–they could bond over the fact that Hook could only get a pirate ship into New York if it was cloaked. That they both almost married villainous henchpeople. That magic is real and it sucks but it’s a part of our lives.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantYa see, it’s weird, but with each passing day, I keep feeling even more that Neal’s gonna be brought back in the finale. I’ve got my end of season headcanon with the baelfire thing with the time unraveling, and it all plays out so perfectly in my head.
They erase time back to when they all arrived in FTL, exact same shot, everyone looks over at Neal who is all O______O because the last thing he remembers is he died, and Belle gives him a bear hug because he’s back. Then they go over and wreck Philora’s picnic, because they’ve now figured out that they need to break through the floor to get to the Well of Wonders because the OUAT twist is that it’s that specific water that can harm the Wicked Witch, (which is why she had it boarded up in the first place so no one could use it against her). Then up pops Nyx, who happily gives them water to use on Zelena, because she’s been trying to break the laws of magic, and Nyx does not approve. Then she also gives some water to Belle and Neal, telling them that Rumple’s sacrifice in 311 means he’s granted a second chance and a happy ending. So Regina goes to dump water on Zelena at the castle, and Belle and Neal set off for the Vault again. This time they just need to pour the water into the keyhole, which is a lovely little mirror to the last time when it all went wrong, because they were led there by lying FLAMES and the symbol that was BURNED into Neal’s hand was the triangle, which is the alchemical symbol for FIRE, so this time they’re using water which is the total opposite, water extinguishes the harmful effects of fire, which means no nasty side effects this time around. And meanwhile back in NYC, Emma and Walsh are working together on their end to get back to where the others are, or there’s a plan in place to meet in SB again, either works, but the point is that at the very end, Emma and Neal are gonna see each other again and the season will end with an epic TLK.
I mean, it all fits together perfectly in my head. We KNOW that they’re gonna be messing with time because it’s Zelena’s big plan, so, yeah, I just can’t rule it out that at least some part of my crackpot headcanon could happen. It would explain Neal’s promo slogan. It would fit with the “second chances” theme in multiple ways, not only would Neal get a second chance at life, but Rumple gets a second chance too, and they get a second chance to take out Zelena. It would explain why they’re not bothering to dwell on Neal’s death right now, because there’s no point taking up screentime with that when he’s gonna come back eventually anyway, (don’t get me wrong, I will FOREVER be pissed that they’re not bothering to give him the attention he deserves right now, but from a we’ve-got-a-story-to-tell-in-a-restricted-amount-of-time perspective, the writers could justify it to themselves if he’s gonna be back). And it would give their heroine the most fricking EPIC love story of all, that even defied death, and let’s face it, the fricking Saviour should get a love story that defies death. No other love story could ever top that, and Emma “Saviour” Swan deserves to have the most dramatic, overcoming IMPOSSIBLE odds, love story ever.
*sits on corner and waits for the season finale*
ALL OF THIS IS SO EPIC.
I wish the “this death is the final death” press and the part of me that thinks MRJ asked to be written out weren’t keeping me from 100% buying this theory. Because it would be epic.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantSomebody threw this theory out in an email on the podcast and Jeremy said he’d HATE it if that happened. Already loling.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantJust re-watched and paid closer attention to the Hook and Henry stuff this time. Wasn’t entirely horrible, I do think Hook is having some legitimate feels about the situation. Henry’s, “How am I supposed to feel anything about him being gone if I don’t know what he was like while he was here?” That just makes me wanna weep. I wonder if when he said that, Hook made the connection to the situation with Bae and his mother, because Milah left when Bae was very young, so he probably wouldn’t have remembered much of anything about her. I know the stuff Hook talks about is about how he lost his father, but I’m just sayin’, the no memories thing correlates more closely with his mother.
I also sort of laugh-weeped at Henry pointing out that Hook teaching Bae about navigation makes no sense since like, aren’t you the same age as him? Even the characters are pointing out how little sense the plot makes!
I didn’t even make the Milah connection, but you’re right. The reason why I defended those scenes was because I NEVER feel the Captainfire love–but here I got a taste of it. Or maybe I just appreciated that actual quiet time was devoted to it.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantIt’s a sad testament to the writing when I think Pan’s quest to be a teenager forever has more internal logic to it that whatever it is Zelena wants.
"Death cannot stop true love...it can only delay it awhile."
ouatrandothoughtsParticipantSo, is Zelena going to dangle the possible erasing of Bae’s death in front of Rumple in a gambit to get him to willingly cooperate with her? That might, admittedly, be too cruel for the audience, but I honestly think that moral dilemma for him would be more interesting than…idek what they’re doing with the character.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantWhen they had the first scene with Regina reading it, I actually got really excited because I thought Regina had found some letter that Rumple wrote her mother when they were having their magical training lessons/affair before she married Henry Sr., and that Regina was going to (falsely) believe that Zelena was the product of a Rumple/Cora affair.
I have always wanted Regina to find out about the Rumple/Cora affair in a really dramatic~ way and confront him. I think it’s a major waste of mining interesting, existing drama.
What the letter was actually about was pretty lame.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantLet us all take a moment to appreciate that Emma Swan dated the Wizard of Oz.
I don’t know why this is more ridiculous to me than dating a flying monkey, but it is.

ouatrandothoughtsParticipantIs it weird that I felt the most genuine Neal emotions in tonight’s episode (apart from Rumple, of course) came from Hook? If I didn’t feel as though those scenes were cynically setting up CS and stepdaddy Hook, I would have actually liked them unreservedly. Colin played it with a suitable amount of subdued guilt, and he actually for once seemed more concern with Bae’s legacy than anything ulterior involving Emma.
I mean, I still think he’s a long way from being consistently written, but it’s something.
"Death cannot stop true love...it can only delay it awhile."
ouatrandothoughtsParticipantIn a detached sort of way, I can’t help but be mildly curious what “larger purpose” they’re ultimately going to try to sell. I assume that Zelena’s name being revealed isn’t it.
I used to really miss the official podcast because I enjoyed hearing their thoughts, but I am so thankful I don’t have to deal with them over this episode.
