ParticipantShe does not sound hypocritical she WAS hypocritical.
Then she was hypocritical. Who hasn’t been on this show? I don’t see why that makes her a terrible person. If she was going in to sit down and have tea and crumpets with Belle and Rumple to discuss the issue then people would be questioning if she was Jafar in disguise. This is Emma’s character. Impulsive, emotional, driven, flawed…. This is who she has been for the whole series.

ParticipantExactly!! But the show TELLS us that Emma and Snow are the heroes and Rumple and Gideon are the villains so we need to be on Emma and Snow’s side even though they act exactly like Tumple and Gideon.
None of the characters in that scene were painted in a bad light IMO. I could get on board with Belle seeing the best in her son, in Rumple wanting to protect him, in Emma wanting to protect herself and in Snow wanting to protect her daughter. They are four adults. They are more than just Heroes and Villains, and all the connotations that come with those labels.

ParticipantThis is my problem, she has used Belle very recently as a bargaining chip and therefore is being a hypocrite and blackmailing Rumple was not very “hero” like.
What is “hero” like? Let’s all sit down and have a cup of tea and discuss your son who keeps attempting to stick a sword into me? I understand that it might not seem like the most “light” thing to do, but seriously, this isn’t a normal situation to be in. Just because Emma is a hero does not mean that she should just stand there and wait for Gideon to kill her. And she may sound hypocritical – but why is that an issue? Everyone on that show has been a hypocrite at some point. I am sure we all have been as well. The world is not black and white.

ParticipantDo you know who was in the same situation? Snow (and Emma kind of), so you would think that them being in the same situation as Belle would make them sympathize with her, you would think that coming at her the way they did is insensitive (Belle’s lack of reaction is a different matter).
The point is that Belle is coming across to Emma as being completely in denial because of her emotional investment in the situation, and her track record at spotting lies. I would understand your point if Belle was always right and Emma hadn’t spent almost an entire season getting the Savior shakes because of something that Gideon was going to do to her. It just makes NO SENSE for Emma to accept what Belle is saying with no questions asked given everything that has happened this year. Pretty much all of which Gideon is the root cause of.
Emma doesn’t watch the show, so she doesn’t know that Gideon is good deep down.

ParticipantBecause in the pilot it was about standing up to bullies and now it’s about being one?
SHE ALMOST DIED AND GIDEON TRIED TO KILL HER TWICE AND HE TOOK HOOK AWAY FROM HER. AND NOW SHE WANTS TO PROTECT HERSELF AND HER FAMILY IN CASE HE TRIES TO DO IT AGAIN. How on earth is that her being a bully? After nearly dying twice, don’t you think she is entitled to handle things her way this time after Gideon failed to be nice? She gave him a chance per Rumple and Belle’s wishes. What is she supposed to do? Just be cool with it and hope he doesn’t try and kill her again. Oh and just keep living without Hook? I really do not understand your point at all.
Because Emma is supposed to be a “hero” and rather than showing sympathy towards RumBelle and the situation with Gideon, Emma is marching into the shop and threatening to kill their son all because she’s mad that Gideon sent away Hook. Emma’s anger seems to focus on that rather than Gideon’s attempted murder of her.
He tried to kill her twice too! It’s not just about hook. Like this is a guy whom she already gave a second chance to. How can she just say, ok guys you’re right. I believe you. He’s a good boy. HOW? She can’t.
This! Emma is upset that Gideon is messing with her life, and the hypocrisy is almost unforgiving. She went in there and stated that Gideon is using Hook as a bargaining chip while she has done the exact same thing to Rumple. She went into his shop and blackmailed him to take them to the underworld by using Belle. And guess what you could blame Emma for the entire Gideon mess if you want to she was the first domino in all of this. You have this paired with the Charmings doing the exact same thing, Snow stating that she would love to help Emma because they need bonding time is horribly ridiculous. These are supposed to be our “heroes” and they are being self centered, hypocritical jerks
So let me get this straight. Gideon tries to kill Emma twice, deceives her after she gave him a second chance per Rumbelle’s wishes, and sends the man she loves away and she’s being self-centered for wanting something to be done to prevent this from happening anymore to her? She isn’t upset because Gideon is messing with her life. She’s upset bc he deceived her, left her for dead and TRIED TO KILL HER TWICE. And separated her from Hook. You’re making it seem like what Gideon has done is minor. If someone tried to kill you twice and sent away the person you loved and deceived you after they said they were good, would you just do what Rumbelle is telling you? Do what the Dark One is telling you, someone who would protect his son no matter what he was doing. Of course not. You would defend yourself and try and get rid of them. And that’s what she is doing. If I was her, I’d be so done with all the crap about him being a good person and that he’s just messed up bc of the Black Fairy. That may be true, but HE TRIED TO KILL ME TWICE! I’d have to do something about it at this point. And trying to protect myself and my family doesn’t make me self-centered.
I am glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. Thank you.

ParticipantHmmm, so we are venturing to a new land called Storybook?

ParticipantBecause in the pilot it was a con man and this time it is Belle, who was supportive of them all the time? Because in the pilot it was about standing up to bullies and now it’s about being one?
The Pilot reference was about the Gideon punch scene, not Belle. Emma punched him after saying “You tried to kill me with that sword and you failed, and now you think you can bully me?”. She was literally hitting back in an attempt to prove that she will not be intimidated by him. It was a move that was fuelled by anger and frustration, but I don’t think that it is out of character.
Belle thinks everyone is good. She will probably be saying the same about the Black Fairy when she arrives. That being said, she is blinded by the love of her son, and although she happens to be right in this case – she has been very wrong in the past. Emma did listen to her ultimately though.

ParticipantBut they don’t treat it as a flaw or a mistake that she has to learn from. I’m all for flawd characters, but the whole point is for them to understand it, learn from it and grow as a person. It was played as “bas ass” Emma, no one called her out and it will never be mentioned again.
I didn’t see people complaining when Emma bashed a guys head against a steering wheel in the Pilot. How did they not address it as a mistake? Emma completely changed her behaviour after RumBelle explained about Gideon’s upbringing. She tried a different approach, to give him hope, and he completely deceived her (whether he was being controlled or not). I don’t understand why people are making her out to be so awful?
The bigger question I have, was why Hook couldn’t return after the napkin that had absorbed Emma’s tears went up in flames?

I have to say that the idea of a hero having to be perfect in every way, is a little old-fashioned. Emma has always been a flawed, impulsive character and if she (and others) always made the right/noble choice it would make for pretty uninteresting viewing. She is responding emotionally to a situation that she has encountered several times before – first with Neal being taken away from her, and then with Hook ending up in the Underworld. I can totally understand that she wants to cut to the chase and do what needs to be done. She is fed up of having everything that she loves taken away from her.
At the end of the day, yes she is a hero, but first and foremost she is a human being. We make mistakes, we act emotionally, we don’t always do the right thing.

ParticipantThey are filler because what Hook is doing in the Enchanted forest and Neverland does not matter. They were pointless scenes.
So him getting back home doesn’t matter? You’re not making any sense.
Would a mcguffin in Neverland be any different from a mcguffin elsewhere? Did we really need the scenes of blackbeard and him?
I guess it depends whether Blackbeard factors into the bigger story? For all we know he could end up being hugely important (most likely not, but we don’t know for sure!)
