ParticipantFiona:
The name is considered to be a Latinised form of the Gaelic word fionn, meaning “white”, “fair”
Interesting! I’m wondering what the prophecy is that the press release refers to. It could be the prophecy of someone being able to wield light and dark magic (doubtful) or it could perhaps be a prophecy that her child would become the dark one, and she actually tries to do something to prevent this, which massively backfires. Maybe she wasn’t always the black fairy, maybe she was a white fairy who was corrupted?

Participant00% agree. Aladdin and Jasmine and Jafar were such a waste!
I suspect what happened was they wanted to do the Evil Queen, Land of Untold Stories, and Aladdin stuff for Season 6. The Black Fairy and Final Battle might have been the plan for Season 7. Gideon could have still been in Season 6, but perhaps he wouldn’t have been born until the end of the Season. However, they could have combined those plans into the Season 6 we got because 1) They realized that they would be losing key cast members, 2) The show’s ratings had declined, so they wanted to wrap up the main narrative this Season just in case they weren’t renewed for Season 7.
That makes sense, and also explains why narratively this year has been a mess. Also why they’ve had to speed through and use more silly magical objects every episode to explain things and push the plot forward. It’s kinda sad, because a whole season of black fairy and Gideon could have been really well done.

ParticipantDoes this mean that the Black Fairy was once human then? In which case it will be interesting to see how and why she became a fairy.
Please let this episode be good!

ParticipantWhile the OUAT bosses caution that there will be death in the final hour, the real threat may actually be to Storybrooke — the Black Fairy created the Dark Curse, which birthed the town. “I would worry about everything,”
We know that some of the actors–a lot actually–are coming back for 7 but doesn’t this sound like killing off the Black Fairy means the end of SB which would cause s7 (and beyond potentially) to be a whole new town/setup?
As much as this makes sense, I think it is going to be such a great shame if they dispose of the Black Fairy this quickly. I wish that they had introduced her earlier on in this season and not bothered with Aladdin and Jasmine. She is great. If Rumple has lasted 6 seasons then it seems odd that someone so bad and powerful would be gone within a few episodes.
They could have shown a dark force trying to break through into our world early in the season and played on the mystery of that. That being said, she has certainly brought a much-needed burst of energy and intrigue that is driving us through to the finale.

Participantsomeone should warn the black fairy that the final batle is not what she thinks it is, is more something close and personal to emma, is not a real big batle, at least that was what eddy said in a article, if i remember right.
LOL
Seriously, why do they ALWAYS do this? Introduce a phrase and then use it 50 times an episode? It is so irritating.
Matt
ParticipantWell since he said “big” sacrifice I am going to assume it does not necessarily mean death. Maybe Zelena gives up something she loves or maybe someone gives up some power.
I suspect that crystal/shard will be able to absorb her powers or something to turn it into an emerald. Not sure how that fits in with everything else though?

ParticipantI prefer the symbolic battles. Fairy tales are morality plays; they have to be about something. Otherwise, the show’s dramatic moments are just glowy hands and intestinal gas pain scowls.
I would prefer it to be both. Emma fighting the Black Fairy is already pretty symbolic given that she’s the Savior and Black is apparently the most evil creature ever. (also, omgosh the cats LOL)
Agreed. I really don’t know why they choose “war” and “battle” to describe what is going to happen, if they don’t plan for it to be that sort of thing. I too would like a mix of glowy hands and emotional stakes.
Matt
ParticipantI am so intrigued about the finale, because we seem to know next to nothing about what is going on!

Participant“In our minds, the Final Battle is probably not what you think it is,” Kitsis says. “Like any good battle, sometimes it’s not a battle in the literal sense of a fight.” Horowitz adds: “It is a battle, it is different than the ones we’ve seen before, and it is very personal to Emma.”
*eyeroll* But some of us would actually like to see a battle in the literal sense! I wonder what it is actually going to be then. We know so little at this stage..
Matt
ParticipantI am beginning to think that – especially given how they want the stakes to be in the finale – we won’t know whether or not the show is renewed until the finale airs. If they reveal who is or isn’t coming back then it makes it less compelling watching as you will know who will and won’t die. It would be nice to have some genuine surprises.
