ParticipantI was thinking about his name and recently was wondering about certain things. It is going to be disorganized.
So with his name Greg Mendell we have the similarity to Gregor Mendel, father of genetics a man of science.
Mendell is a variant of Mendel (Farsi) which means wisdom, learning. Mendel from Jewish (Ashkenazic) “from the Yiddish personal name Mendl, a diminutive of Man”
There is a good connection to Gregor Mendel whose life was studying the realm of man (genetics) who gained further learning and wisdom.
It also made me think of Science of Man and the connection of David Hume to a Jean Jacque Rousseau]
From what I gathered Rousseau and Hobbes have different views of human nature. Mendell seemed excited to have seen something new (which I took to mean that he seemed someone to see the “good” and believe in the possibilities) whereas the other person on the phone could have been his “Hobbes” who might not be able to see the “good” or readily believe.
That said I was thinking about the phonecalls that reminded me of this movie, The Perfect Host, starring David Hyde Pierce. Essentially the host is more than what he seems. He writes postcards to himself from “his sister.” (Though he knows what he is doing for the most part but imagines everything else–and in one scene he has sex with one of the “guests” and his belief in the female guest being real–from what I gathered–was that it was “real” to him.
My belief is that Mendell seems to be Jekyll and Hyde. It may be a case of have dissociative personality disorder where he has more than one personality who can control him at a given time. Possibly similar to Fight Club where he is unaware or believes it is a different person rather than himself versus knowing that it is an alternate personality. There is even a site that can schedule wakeup calls to your phone http://wakerupper.com/ so Mendell may use a site like this to schedule calls (he forcibly blocks out any action that might contradict what he believes) from the other person–was it a girl?

Yes, thank you everyone. Hopefully, Mr. O’Donoghue will be kind enough to come forward on his own and tell everybody what happened. It’d certainly be wiser for him to do that, than to let the public discuss it on their own. That just starts speculation, which turns into rumors, and I’d really hate to see that happen. It will if he doesn’t nip this in the bud. Given the way people are, I’m almost expecting to start seeing people throwing out things all the way from cancer, to who knows what. I read another site this morning where somebody was talking about Lymes Disease. Based on what? Come on, people! I really don’t want to see this happen to him. He’s the one in control here, though. When answers aren’t given people will try to come up with them on their own, and so an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Well, no, the rumors are perpetuated by fans who immediately start to worry if he is not seen for any prolonged amount of time no matter the fact certain fans starting speculating everything under the sun. It seems that as others have mentioned a little common sense and perspective is needed. He’s never really discussed too much about his working so it would stand to reason that some quiet time could be that he’s spending time with his wife, taking bit of a rest etc.
His business is his own. He should not feel obligated to discuss any more then what he feels comfortable or necessary. I would have thought that fans would be respectful of his wishes, and actually think more positively rather than actually speculating all of the doom-and-gloom which seems to be much too negative. Furthermore, I would hope that they actually want this to be false rather than having their moment of “I called it!” which is disturbing.
You said “Based on what? Come on, people!” and that is exactly that. The onus is on fans of Hook (the ones speculating and are always going “omg is his character dead” etc) to stop and relax. It’s becoming a bit ridiculous that the poor man cannot make simple comments (Hook leaving the building), stay relatively quiet on Twitter without fans starting to spazz out.
If fans hear something about a possible injury or whatnot why not simply first assume it is speculation but instead of spiraling into assuming his character was killed off, he is suffering from something really horrible simply state to him that you heard some rumors, hope they are not true but in the least sending some positiveness since everyone needs some positive vibes sent their way. The way I figure let’s say he did sprain an ankle I think he’d appreciate a “Heard you sprained your ankle, hoping you get better soon, sending some positive thoughts your way” etc.
I feel sorry for him. 😕

ParticipantCaptain Hook has become the byronic hero. I sort of hope that Emma or Belle realize that Hook is not rotten but so incredibly broken that he is nearly driven insane from his grief and heartbreak. He is not as bad Heathcliff. It would be an interesting turn of events to have Belle and Hook become friends and possibly Hook trying to insinuate something more to get under Rumpel’s skin

ParticipantPersonally I prefer the idea of Cora being the Miller’s Daughter since Regina seems to have been born into some wealth from birth.
Here is one version of the tale from the Rumpelstiltskin wiki page:
Another of the Grimm’s tales revolves about a girl trapped by false claims about her spinning abilities, The Three Spinners. However, the three women who assist that girl do not demand her firstborn, but instead ask that she invite them to her wedding and say that they are relatives of hers. She complies, and when the three appear at the wedding, amazing the king with their ugliness, they tell the king that their various deformities (an overgrown thumb in one, a pendulous lip in the second, an enormous foot in the third) are the result of their years of spinning. The horrified king decrees that his wife will spin no more. In contrast to Rumpelstiltskin’s self-seeking, therefore, these helpers ask only the “payment” of extending their benevolence to the heroine, and ensure that she will not need their help again. In one Italian variant, the girl must discover their names, as with Rumpelstiltskin, but not for the same reason: she must use their names to invite them, and she has forgotten them.
The one part I really focused on was the idea that the Miller’s daughter lied about her spinning abilities. Perhaps she had some ability but greatly exaggerated for various reasons–wanting to get out of the small village she was from, to use it as a means of escaping an arranged marriage.
I believe that Rumpelstiltskin may have helped Cora because he understood where she was coming from. She was a spinner like him. He understood the desire of wanting to do and be more than simply your occupation. He certainly knew about what it was like to be in a loveless marriage.
However I believe that Rumpelstiltskin wanted Regina to either push along the curse but to also attempt to remember what it was like to be a father. Perhaps he figured that even if he was the Dark One he would still be a better parent then Cora could ever be.
But I do also like the idea of the Miller’s daughter being Snow’s mother. As much of what could happen (Rumple wanting to be a father again as well pushing the curse along etc could be achieved with Snow’s mother being the Miller’s daughter)

ParticipantI think it depends on how the doors works. If it can jump time and space it is possible that Mulan is from China around the time she lived. She may have ended up in their world and had to learn the way of the land on her own. (So apparently one of the doors is a reference to when Buddhism was reaching China and that was around the time Mulan lived.
Or she is from a land that is similar to China but a sort of “fairytale world” for Chinese mythology.
I love the inclusion of different languages though from the book that Belle was reading and what Philip wrote that seemed to asian inspired…unless that is me.

ParticipantI love the idea of being a spinner he might have had a sheepdog and sheep.
Something is whether or not he worked with dogs while in the war. Maybe his role in the war was that of a scout or a tracker and a dog would be a great help.playarita
ParticipantI was extremely irked that Snow let Regina free from her jail cell. I understand her need at wanting to be benevolent. However one can be benevolent but still have them locked away.
I found an interesting concept that I have been mulling over in my head. It seems that the devastation of murder/killing is greatly amplified on the backstory of those involved or if magic is involved
If Snow kills Regina she risks going to the dark side. Now is this because of their history together or does Snow have some innate magical quality in her where an action like this would cause her to become evil like Regina?
We have seen Charming kill soldiers. However he does not seem to have any magic in him nor did he have much of a history with them except they were trying to capture him.
Or did he change in some way that we have yet to see?

I also hated how Cora wasn’t seen in this episode. I understand that Barbara Hershey’s time might be limited, but couldn’t they have come up with something better than just having her conveniently not around Hook’s ship when Belle goes aboard. Likewise, where was Hook’s crew?
That actually bugged me as well. How is it that Hook happened to drop a nautical knot for Belle to decipher. He must have been told by Cora that Belle was very intelligent. By using that against Belle he lured her onto the ship. I think his goal or hope was that upon learning how Rumple had killed Milah that Belle would turn against Rumple. That would definitely cause heartbreak in Rumple’s case. I think Hook wanted to relish in prolonging the heartbreak where Rumple would have to see Belle hate him which is something that would kill him.
Hook shooting Belle–though not fatally–and having her cross the line was his way bringing heartbreak in a different way one where Rumple has to see the consequence of his Dark One ways and the pain that comes along with it.
Though if Hook does turn out to be a villain through and through he will may eventually try and kill Belle once and for all–possibly ripping her heart out in the same way that Milah died. That would cause Rumple to become blind with rage and go after Hook once and for all. I wonder if Hook might wait until Baelfire (assuming he is alive) is in Storybrooke where he will learn of his mother’s fate and see that Rumple is still the “coward” he knew as a child…
That would cause Rumple to not only lose his true love but his son as well…

ParticipantThe characters:
Belle: I loved that they finally gave glimpses into her intelligence that goes beyond “book smart” but that she seems to be a good strategist as well or in the very least had she been given training to become a warrior I think that she would have definitely honed her skills. After her rather silly attempt of meeting the Yaoguai I am glad that we see her strategy ability when she lures the Yaoguai into the courtyard.Hook: I cannot imagine that a pirate who has been a pirate for centuries is going to be possible. Not when he was successfully captaining his ship and had the respect of his men. If he was not a good fighter I do not think that would be possible. As others have pointed out I do think his “rotten” heart is not due to being evil but out of heartbreak. His heartbreak is over losing Milah.
Rumple: He still has his issues of his insecurity regarding his image as a coward. It is a driving force in his lust for power, anger and revenge. What he did to Smee I feel is a step back to the Dark One and I hope that is not a sign of things to come. Though my gut tells me that if anything Rumple might definitely tap into his dark side–only hope he does not lose the last shred of his humanity.
Snow: I am glad she stood up for what she wanted. She made good points as to why she wanted to stay. I think it goes beyond not wanting to fight anymore which seems to be something she knows will happen in the Enchanted Forest–if they go back then they have to risk dealing with people like Regina–who I assume would want to go back because she is powerful there. Anyways I think she wants to stay for Emma and Henry. This world is the only place that Emma has ever known even if the Enchanted Forest changes with the societal dynamics these people have learned they are still going to live a way of life that is very different–no modern amenities and the like. As much as Henry loves fairy tales etc it is vastly different to reading them and actually living them. If he goes back he might realize how unprepared he is for that world–and if Emma does not want to return he would likely stay with her.
Henry: I was annoyed with his “I knew it” because with the way he was grieving I don’t really think that he did know. I wonder if his proclamation was more his way of reassuring himself that Regina does want to make a change and that like Rumple might still have some goodness in her that needs to be loved and nurtured.
Some possible theories:
1. This seems to show that losing one’s true love (at the hands of another in a vicious way–murder, etc) seems to send some into sheer anguish where they are self destructive or evil.
Example: Hook seems to be in complete self-destructive mode where he wants to die–in the same way either poetic or something more to it–to meet Milah.
Example: Regina–though unsure if the creators will redeem her, I suspect Cora might have lost her true love or was betrayed and her lust for power and her hubris is due to her not wanting to be weak or vulnerable again.2. I definitely get Peter Pan vibes regarding Baelfire. Hook mentions about how Bae might not want to be found. He might have meant it as simply offering a different perspective but it felt as if he said it because he had met Bae before. Now the question is if Bae is still alive or who might Bae might be and Neal’s possible connection–either as a descendent or Bae himself–and how Emma plays into the story (as Wendy).
3. If fairy dust (or good magic) can lift a curse then something that once has been done cannot be done–can in fact be undone. I suspect that is the case but I think the fairies keep that under wraps so that they don’t have people trying to steal fairy dust.
4. I love the idea that Hook might have placed a curse on his heart where if Rumple takes it he faces the same fate as Hook. Perhaps that is a test of sorts–a way of showing Belle that Rumple was “evil” to the bitter end.
5. About Frankenstein maybe the key is not only the magical heart but that it has to be a willing sacrificial heart from someone who allows the heart to be used to resurrect another person.
What I want to see:
1. I want to see if one loses their true love in a way other than their meeting death if the same can occur (turning evil, self destructive etc).2. There is a lot of emphasis on the power of true love. I would love it explored on whether or not one can have more than one true love–something I would love to see or know is whether or not one can find a new one–and how that might be–i.e. age, experience etc.
3. I definitely want to see a lot more exploration of the fact that now that the curse is broken we are going to see a town divided on either returning to Storybrooke or trying to go back to the enchanted forest. Though I suspect that it is going to cause derision among “couples” that extend more than Snow and Charming but Nova and Grumpy since if Nova goes back she might have to go back to being a fairy out of a sense of duty.
4. What Rumple will do with Belle. I know he is going to try and lift the curse so that Belle will be able to remember again. I suspect that he will use Sneezy and Smee as experiments. He created a talisman to cross the border I think he should be able to create a potion to return her memories
5. That said will Rumple try and woo Belle again (whoever her counterpart is) but with her being a person of this world she might be unable to “love” him the way Belle had unless her spirit who she was in Fairytale Land still exists deep down.

ParticipantAs for reappearance it would probably depend on the story. It might be that they return to Storybrook or the story in general or as a flashback. There are so many characters who all have a story that left to be told.
Additionally what about Kathryn Nolan? We know that she was married to David however where is her true love Fredrick? Or maybe an additional flashback (personally I believe King Midas might have turned Fredrick to gold on purpose with the prospect of a more advantageous marriage. Plus I am reminded of Rabbit Hearted Girl from Florence and the Machine and how that could play into her story.)
I love the ideas everyone has brought up for the other characters. I like the idea of Lancelot reappearing only because otherwise that would seem too short-lived for what is such an iconic character. The same really of Maleficent and if they focus on Aurora then Maleficent will more than likely be featured in some way.
