I’ve seen people mention the sea goddess name connection before. That also ties in with Calypso and Pirates of the Carribean.
A lot of pieces don’t fit about her.
She mentioned to the Dragon about having analyzed the vial with the best technology. Well, ordinary folks don’t have access to that. How could she afford all the stuff? Either she is working for a private but well funded group of paranormal type investigators or the government. Is she just working Greg or working with him? If he were a fellow magic hunter, perhaps they have known each other for years through the quest to find magic.
I also wonder about the picture. Maybe her grandmother had cancer and died, but that much was true that she started looking for real magic. Then she met Greg.
I do wonder why August leaped to the conclusion about her “stealing magic”. I got that he connected her to killing the Dragon, but why not ask if she was there for or to use the magic? Or destroy it? Why steal?
(I do a lot of references so pardon me) but in District 9 we see the military go through extreme lengths to reverse engineer the alien’s weaponry.
The only thing I can think of is that there is some sort of biotechnology company (or some sort of well funded individual or company) who either has more intel and methods than the government (ie area 51) that shows evidence otherworldly technology and they want to harness this for their own gain (either to control this world and maybe other worlds)…
Though at the same time I’d feel like the show would be stretched thin with all the directions or basically adding another element would make a full plate already that much fuller. If this is a possible direction I hope it is well balanced
What ties would the employer have to FTL? Could it be the sea witch (hence the references through Tamara’s name–maybe her grandma ;o ). Maybe the witch is trying to amass the magic to make herself stronger to take on the other worlds?
I would love introduction to our own “magical” creatures or from another world outside of FTL. I believe that this world used to have magic or have better communication/connection to other realms but our own corruption and lack of magic (whatever that means here) meant that we are a dying place and creatures are either fleeing or trying to hold on by any means possible

ParticipantThe only issue I have with the taser is that with wood it can conduct electricity but only when hit by lightening where the resins and water heat up causing the wood to explode.
As for the other parts I am not quite sure how to feel. However overall I do like the story and its progression.

ParticipantResearching racy I found an old saying “racy of the soil” which led me to this (the source) and this (discussion of the saying)
Given that workmanship behind the making of lace and that race can denote someone “of the earth” (or someone who is of the class that would work the earth so I took that to mean working class) and that lace can mean “noose, string, from Vulgar Latin *laceum, from Latin laqueus, noose; probably akin to lacere, to entice, ensnare.”
I am wondering if this was Regina’s way of snubbing Belle and Rumplestiltskin.
The whole “racy lacey” was a means of Regina saying that Belle was an ensnarer who used her feminine wiles to have Rumple fall in love with her and carried that over into our world. Instead of Belle using her goodness and innocence (though I wonder if Regina thought it an act?) she uses cunning, and scheming to get what she wants. Then there’s her belief that Belle was nothing more than a country lass which to her is why she fell prey to Rumple and his sob story.

Could “The Dragon” be a “God” figure who somehow is in the land without magic??? I don’t think he died, but the human form was just stunned. Very fascinating character. I’ve been wondering about the whole back story to the overall power behind the Dark One and whether or not there were counter-characters such as a “Good One”??? Ok..clearly this show is consuming me… 🙂 😀
I like this idea. He has to be alive (or I would like him to be) because it seems so odd to build him to being this mystical man/creature and then bam dead. It would of course depend on that taser if it was meant to kill or absorb.
I was wondering if there are alternate dimensions of our world (was thinking of Fringe mostly) where there may be alternate universes that has magic, different technology (think Victorian steampunk) and because of this it may be possible to traverse into our world (whether able to leave?) something where we can be accessed by other worlds but worlds like FTL and the like have to take a serious of steps rather than directly coming to our world.
Or like in the Charles De Lint stories where we have the spirit world that can be accessed that leads to many different worlds and have it’s own ways and rules. Then in one story we have a world where the beloved stories have come to life and whose existence is rooted in this belief.

ParticipantI love the idea of the tomato and it being known as a love apple.
An idea that was floating in my head that is believed in my family and I have seen in at least one movie is the idea that strong emotions can flavor food. For instance in Like Water for Food there is a scene where Tita cooks Quail in Rose Petal Sauce. The roses were given by her unrequited love (who had to marry her sister) and this immense love and passion went into the food and it was sensed by the people who were eating it (to put it lightly). Then there is another scene where she is scolded for crying into the wedding cake which would have embittered the marriage.
So combined with tomatoes are known as and how strong emotional responses can flavor food it may be that the tomatoes are also reflecting Regina’s emotional state and her intentions

ParticipantMy guess is that:
1) Tamara is an evolved human. Or in the least a group of humans who have been able to do magic. Maybe not magic in the sense that the fairy tale lands know but to reference a movie, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice where for instance fire is created by agitating molecules and the like. So it’s a bit magic and science blended together.
2) She may be a human from another dimension or alternate dimension. Pardon the references but in Fringe we see that certain characters have technology (very advanced bionic arm for instance) that came from the alternate dimension where such technology exists in that same present time
3) Again sorry for the references it could be that some sort of alien (or other dimension) power was found by her and her ancestors… like for instance Tony Stark using the power that is Asgardin in origin.
4) Another may be that her ancestors had an altercation with someone from another land who wielded power similar to fairy tale land and then seeks this power to try and destroy those like that person.
I can only assume that given her mannerisms, and the way she is seeking and collecting magic it is due to some sort of tragedy that happened in her childhood (to her or a loved one) or early adulthood and plans to use it in some sort act towards the person who committed the tragedious act or those like this person in general. That or perhaps something happened where she witness real magic, wanted to learn it but was betrayed (either purposefully or unintentionally) and has this anger and thus wants to prove that humans can wield magic.

ParticipantI wonder if her relatives were ones who used or were in tune with magic but were driven away/persecuted for it and she’s trying to collect magic to either use it against those who have wronged her (either directly, or to the general who would disbelieve etc) or to prove magic is real. Or maybe it is a bitterness towards other lands like Enchanted Forest that believes in magic where it flourishes and not have those who use it persecuted (not for the use of magic only for the crimes one might commit)

ParticipantSomething I was wondering is that for some characters it’s a shame that they were only flashback characters. It’d be nice to see some expanded though I know some might not work. But I was wondering how they could expand and could they maybe make use of the webisode format? I know it could limit the audience (though I wonder if dedicated oncers would be the ones interested or would it be across the board) but maybe they could do special tv short clips or something to make it available to the masses but also available on the web…
Now if we were to take the webisode approach what characters would you want expanded that might not get their own flashback episode. For instance Granny, I would love some on her especially with how likely would she get a flashback episode outside of Red? How about George how much would his flashback show if possible (is he going to side with Regina)?
Maybe even include random scenes (funny etc) of smaller characters such as the dwarves. Maybe more happy jokes or something…I kind of think of how Marvel movies have the ending scenes. But then for the Avengers they had the shawarma scene…

Interesting theories…thanks for sharing. It would make sense for Tamara to be related to the sea via hook/Calypso…and as far as the engagement between Neal and Tamara I thought it was so wierd how they greeted each other so formely in front of Emma…No kiss, just a hug like friends. I also think that Neal was a lost boy. Ii thought for a while that he was peter pan but that seems too obvious. I’m guessing they want to leave that charector open for other plots.
I’ve left thoughts in the Tamara is thread but something else that caught my eye is the fact that in next episode Bae and Emma are treating each other goes simply beyond working with each other to stop Regina and Cora. Bae was joking with Emma but I got a flirtatiousness vibe from it. That either means he’s gauging how much Emma can tolerate or to see how angry she is.

I knew Tamara couldn’t be trusted; she just seemed a little too nice and trusting of her fiancé going off on a mysterious quest with his ex-girlfriend and his kid.
Plus she sort of reminds me of the situation in Shameless with Jimmy marrying a drug lord’s daughter (to get out of a situation crime related) for her to be able to move the US. Anyways he’s been tailed by the drug lord’s people and got his finger broken…
Maybe it’s me I didn’t see happy as much as I got someone who caught Neal into a situation that he couldn’t back out of. Tamara is the daughter only it’s not the US it’s SB. Only difference is that she seems to be capable of having people persuaded to remember the deals or favors etc.
