Participant@obisgirl, I worked out that Rumple was only between 150-200 tops on the show and this is supported by Maths.
Say Rumple was 50 when he lost Bae through the portal. (based on RC’s age and to start with an easy round number)
6 Months later Bae meets Wendy.
In 3A, Darling Bros said Wendy had been Pan’s prisoner for “over a century”. (I believe the years of imprisonment were over 100 but under 150. If the number had been closer to 200 then they would’ve said “nearly two centuries”. Generally anything over halfway is rounded up whilst anything under is rounded down, so “over a century” is closer to 100 than it is to 200. Since this was 3A, which is post curse, it’s assumed that “over a century” includes the curse years which estimates 130 years imprisonment.
so 50 + 0.5 + 130 = 180.5 years old. Obviously there’s a bit of leeway because “over a century” isn’t an exact number but Rumple clearly is closer to 200 than he is to 300.
Hook is younger than Rumple. If we base Hook’s age on Colin (30s) as we did Rumple’s on RC (50s), Hook is 20 years younger than Rumple. 180 – 20 = 160. As I said, generally anything over half way is rounded up thereby making Hook’s 200 comment technically correct. Also to note, Emma said “like a million years ago” which is a massive over-exaggeration, Hook was correcting her to a more accurate representation “more like 200”. Hook was not saying he is 200 years old.

ParticipantI can’t say I’m surprised about this because Rumple has always been like this, to a degree. He looks down on women who show even the tiniest bit of power over him.
I disagree. Rumple has never looked down on women. In fact, considering the women Rumple has been in a relationship with, it seems Rumple prefers brown haired, intelligent, strong willed, determined, defiant women rather than meek airheads who do as they’re told.
He wanted Milah to stay at home and be a mother to Bae and totally ignored what she wanted, which was to start over fresh.
Rumple and Milah were shunned by the rest of the village because of Rumple’s reputation. They had a young son and Rumple still had to go out and work in order to provide for his family. Did he want Milah to stay home and be a mother to Bae? Probably, because the alternative was that Bae would be left home alone unsupervised and uncared for until Rumple got home. And that is exactly what happened. Did Milah care about what Rumple wanted? No, she couldn’t give a damn.
As for the whole moving away and starting afresh, that was exactly what Rumple wanted to do with his father and look how that turned out. It’s no wonder Rumple was reluctant, same with the bean portal. Rumple feared history would repeat itself.
The whole Rumple/Milah marriage began falling apart the moment he returned from the ogre war. They stayed together for the sake of Bae but they knew their marriage was failing so both were unwilling to make compromises for the other because they knew sooner or later it would go belly up and neither wanted to be in a position where they’d be worse off.
As much as Rumple loves Belle, he knows he can’t have this perfect happily ever after with her as she is now. He needs her to be subservient and basically his yes woman in order for this fantasy to work.
I strongly disagree. Rumple is in awe of Belle, he loves her just the way she is. When Belle was Lacey, and was seemingly more in line with Rumple’s dark nature “his yes woman”, it was Belle he wanted.
The thing with Rumple is he wants his loved ones to be safe, and for him “safe” is as far away from danger as possible. He doesn’t want Belle to be subservient, he’d be heart broken if she was ever like that because that would mean her spirit was broken.
Also, since when is being a housewife the same as being “subservient” and a husband’s “yes woman”? Many women choose to stay at home whilst their husbands work for practical reasons, that doesn’t make them subservient. We don’t even know if Belle is a “housewife” in this AU. All we’ve seen is a few seconds long clip of Belle and Rumple in their home.

ParticipantHook and Rumple are only about 10-20ish years apart. Certainly no more than 30 and definitely not 100.
Correct. Essentially, Milah ditched Rumple for a younger man.

ParticipantZelarian would’ve probably done a pregnancy test before Regina and Emma turned up hence why Robin knew she was pregnant. He probably would’ve already seen the stick.

ParticipantBaelfire never went to the ogre wars though. During the Neverland arc would’ve been the perfect time to show Rumple stopping the ogre war because a) It would contrast Rumple feeling like a coward in Neverland with the day he was a hero and stopped the ogre war, and b) I’m convinced some of the older lost boys actually fought in that ogre war.

ParticipantThe romances that fit into all three categories:
Heterosexual
White
Aged late 20s to early 30sSeem to be presented in a more positive light than couples that don’t fit into all 3 categories. For example, of the 4 main couples (RumBelle, Snowing, OQ and CS), RumBelle is written as the relationship that has the most problems. The only difference between the 4 is that RumBelle does not fit the age category because of Rumple.
We do not see mature couples on the show that end well. For example, Rumple/Milah, Rumple/Cora, Cora/Henry Sr, Milah/Hook, Leopold/Regina etc.
It seems like true love and happiness on the show only happen if you’re under 40.

ParticipantSlight plot hole in Regina and Snow switching roles. Regina is older than Snow. If Regina was a child (say 10 because that was the age Snow was when she told Cora about Daniel) when she told Snow’s secret, then Snow would’ve only been 2 at the time if not younger. Unless this is an intentional plot hole to make the characters realise something is amiss, the James might not be the guy we think he is. A 2 year old Snow’s true love could’ve been her beloved Teddy that got taken away from her because of Regina.
