ParticipantWhat’s the odds of the three musketeers showing up at some point this series?
This is a case where it’s probably better to not “twist” the source material but let it stay true to the original.
I’m conflicted on this. First off, I’ve never read the count of monte cristo so it doesn’t matter either way. However, it just feels like OUAT has lost its edge, and is now just copying characters rather than re-imagining them. On the other side, some characters are best left as is rather than trying to change for the sake of change.
For the love of god, don’t give us any more Annas.

ParticipantI would disagree that the sole cause of the show’s downfall is the writers promoting CS to the exclusion of all else. Personally, I think OUAT started going downhill around Cora’s death – well before Neal’s death.
I agree. However, I do think the decline in quality became more noticeable around the time that CS began to be pushed more and more to the front. Although just after Cora’s death is when the show became very plot focussed rather than character focussed.

ParticipantYep…it’s official!
Madame Mayor is back!

Lana still looks good with no make up on. It’s noticeable, but in a good way.

ParticipantI wonder if Rumple does something that puts him in a trance like state in order to wake Belle from the sleeping curse and Morpheus acts like a guide whilst he is in the trance realm?

ParticipantThat is such a shame about Josh. Why are people going for them? Snowing aren’t the most popular out of the regulars in that, if people were asked to name their favourite characters, Snowing wouldn’t be top of the list, but Snowing don’t do any harm. They’re kind of just there but it’s not like they’re part of a love triangle or anything.

Participant@POM — I don’t actually disagree with you, I don’t think Rumbelle is creepy, but that’s more a factor of how it is being portrayed by the actors. The potential is there in the writing. If Bobby chose to play Rumple the same way he did with young Cora and EDR did a kind of “wide eyed innocent” take on Belle we would quickly end up in The Secretary/50 Shades territory (which is the same problem as with the vampire stories. They all eroticize a massive power differential between the partners. I think this is what the people who cry Stockholm are responding to in relation to Rumbelle). But the actors chose to do something different, thank heavens.
I agree with that.

ParticipantAll the relationships on OUAT have a high creep factor; even ones that started off well.
Look at Snowing—it began as an epic love story and now they attached to the point that they are willing to die for each other (and sometimes Regina) leaving their two children behind!I still disagree. Whether or not it’s because I’m interpreting creepy a different way from how you interpret creepy, but Snowing isn’t creepy IMO. It gets more problematic with every passing season, and it would be fair to say that ALL the relationships have major problems that seem to expand season after season but IMO SNowing and RumBelle aren’t creepy, they’re just problematic.
OQ had its problems, bordering on creepy because of the Marian drama, but just manages to avoid it so long as you don’t think too hard about it.
CS, just inside the creepiness boundary because of the Milah connection, however its main issues are problematic rather than creepy.
The one ship on the show I do find creepy is the Henry/Violet one (or FlowerPower as I call them) because I think they’re both too young to be having the deep and meaningful relationship the show seems to be aiming for with them. Aside from Henry’s brief interactions with Grace and Gretel in season one, Henry has showed no interest in girls whatsoever now all of a sudden he’s in love with Violet. Where’s the transition? That’s one of the issues of the show, the writers have characters jumping from A to B without taking the time to show how they got there.

ParticipantYup. All the vampire stories seem to have that fundamental element of creepiness to them, and the CS pairing is just another instantiation of that. But then again, RumBelle also has that creep factor potential, with the major difference that Bobby’s interpretation of Rumple really plays down the leery factor, in particular with Belle. Colin, on the other hand, sort of plays it up.
I disagree here in regards to CS and RumBelle. Whilst both ships certainly have their problems, the age gap between them isn’t the problem because the younger partner in the relationship is still a full grown consenting adult.
CS is creepy, not because of the age gap, but because Hook dated Henry’s paternal grandmother and is now dating his mother. It’s that familial connection that makes CS feel wrong. (Much like how an SQ romance would feel wrong, not because it’s two women who’ve fought each other before, but because of Regina’s familial connection to Snow. Regina is in effect Emma’s step-Grandmother much like Hook is Emma’s step-father in law.)
RumBelle’s not creepy. Whilst your right in that Rumple could’ve been leery of Belle, he wasn’t, and if anything it was Belle who was chasing after Rumple in Skin Deep. The master/servant power dynamic was subverted.

ParticipantI know I’ve likened CS to Spuffy before but I’ve changed my mind. CS is like Bangel (or whatever that ship is called). You’ve got a slightly creepy relationship anyway but when Angel loses his soul, he was just plain nasty to Buffy much like Hook was to Emma in 5A. Spuffy had it’s enormous problems but at least it was between two consenting adults. Angel/Buffy was between a 200 year old vampire and a 16 year old girl (when they consummated the relationship) yet Angel was actually sort of dating Buffy when she was 15 because they had sex on her 16th birthday. He first saw her when she was 14 because that’s the age she was chosen as “the slayer” and in the season 2 finale Buffy says her mother has been washing blood out of her clothes for two years.
In regards to Regina, realistically there is no way she should be having another romantic interest before the end of the series unless they do a massive time jump because it would be OOC for her to move on that quickly after Robin.
Since Bobby supposedly said that season 6 will be his last (Never a good sign for a show when actors start leaving especially when it’s a lead actor. Shows can survive when good writing is involved but OUAT currently lacks that at the moment), and ABC might want to continue the show beyond season 6 if they have no replacement, then A&E may draft in new characters to replace the departing ones. However, the new characters would need to be integrated during season 6 because otherwise the sudden shift in focus to new characters is going to kill Once dead in the water.
