ParticipantI think Rumple’s trapped in a cycle of addiction.
He wants power because it makes him feel brave and he’s afraid of going back to his former “coward” self. He’s been at it so long, it’s become a way of life to him and he doesn’t know how to get out of it. It’s basically asking someone to break a lifelong habit at the drop of a hat which is impossible and Rumple’s had this habit for several lifetimes.
Rumple’s go to solution for any problem is magic, it’s almost as if he’s lost the ability to solve a problem without magic.
As has already been said, Rumple going for the shard wasn’t him choosing the crystal over the Belle, he went for it because he thinks he needs it to save Belle plus as was pointed out, the crystal had already been stolen and got back already in the episode so it was logical to think someone wanted to steal it again.. He dove for the box as quickly as he could when he saw it going through the portal.
Had to laugh at Rumple having the box sat comfortably on the car passenger seat, talking to it, putting it on the bed (in fact what would be Belle’s side of the bed since that is the side she slept on in “the crocodile”
Rumple is not beyond hope of redemption.

Participant^ I had thought I had seen someone that reminded me of Esmeralda too.
Same here.

Neal?
He does look an awful lot like Neal.
And Maleficent is actually Lily’s mom
You mean Violet?
As in Violet and Lily are full blown sisters?
I thought the same thing in another thread, only Lily and Violet are half sisters (same dad, different mom). Both of them have flower names.

ParticipantI know that but it almost seemed as if Snow’s own dark side was briefly coming out to play.

ParticipantI don’t ship SQ romantically, but I like their relationship and I think they bring the best of each other. The season finale was the only time in this season I felt like Emma was really Emma and that’s thanks to Regina, along with Henry and Rumple.
I agree, especially when Emma was apologising to Regina for being selfish. For a split second it was like we had the old Emma back. Hook and Emma are much more bearable when they are in separate scenes from each other.
Henry was such a pain in the arse this episode, he is currently my least favourite of the regulars at the moment. This is how I currently rank them (the bottom 3 tend to be interchangeable)
Regina- The past few episodes where she has called Emma out on her hypocrisy and Lana’s brilliant acting showing Regina dealing with Robin’s death have put Regina to the top of the list. Also she is the character that has shown the most hard earned progression since season 1.
Rumple- The only reason he’s not top is because the writers are constantly relegating him to villain to fill in the gaps between villains. As a consequence, his character evolution has become static and is constantly going round in circles. RC’s acting is the only thing saving Rumple and showing that he’s not quite past the point of redemption yet.
Zelena- Considering I absolutely despised her in season 3B, it’s impressive that she now ranks in the top 3. I’m actually half tempted to watch 3B again and the desire to rewatch past seasons is something that hasn’t happened since pre-season 3. Season 5 has been a great season for Zelena and has actually made her likeable. I love how she snarks the “heroes”.
Belle- The only reason that Belle doesn’t rank higher is because she doesn’t get enough screen time and what she does get is constantly the same thing of telling Rumple not to do something, he does it anyway, she leaves then eventually comes back to him. Much like Rumple, her characterisation is going in circles. Seeing RumBelle squabbling like an old married couple and working together even if they didn’t agree on the methods in “Her handsome hero” was a refreshing change. It also doesn’t help that RumBelle’s plotline in 5B was so separate to the rest of the cast. Emilie is a real trooper for putting up with the way her character is treated.
Charming- I prefer Charming over Snow because he doesn’t get high and mighty like Snow does. There’s nothing dislikeable about him but he’s not the most exciting of characters so he sits comfortably in the middle. He’s a bit more open minded than Snow.
Snow- They ridiculously dumbed her down in season 3 and made her wildly insensitive and narrow minded. She’s still not one of my favourite characters. She’s never getting back to her season 1 status but 5B has made her more bearable.
Hook- Since I dislike him at some point almost every season, the fact he’s this high shows just how much I dislike some other characters. He’s fine when he shares a scene with another male character like Charming, when he’s not in a scene with Emma, and when he’s not provoking Rumple then crying foul when Rumple gets his own back.
Emma- Emma’s character has been wrecked because of CS. There’s a difference between character evolution and completely rewriting a character to make a ship work because otherwise it won’t. Emma has become Snow 0.2 but worse. All she cares about is Hook. That scene where she’s making out with Hook at Robin’s funeral when is coffin wasn’t even in the ground was awful. It was inappropriate and disrespectful.
Henry- The last two episodes have caused Henry to be ranked bottom of the list. He’s such a brat but no longer has the cuteness factor to get away with it. It’s the whole dynamite at the well situation again, and still I’m rooting for the dynamite. Henry is so irrelevant these days, he’s just become an annoyance. The show would’ve been better off keeping Neal alive, have him move back to New York, then have Henry stay with him for quite a bit and only reappearing now and then every few episodes. This new “romance” with violet is corny. He’s a teenager, showing interest in girls (or boys) is one thing, but to try and go the full blown puppy love romance route is unrealistic. I hope Henry gets his heart broken so we don’t have to sit through his “relationship” any more.

ParticipantWhen Snow was talking about being present at the birth of the evil Queen and wanting to see Regina “end her”, Snow’s voice kind of went like dark Snow, like she was really into seeing Regina kill the EQ.

Participant1) What was your favorite episode of S5B?
Her handsome Hero- I liked that we got to see RumBelle squabbling like an old married couple. It’s a shame that Belle and the ship get pushed to the side because the writers need Rumple to be a villain and he can’t do that if Belle is in a scene with him.
2) What was your least favorite episode of S5B?
Ruby Slippers- It was a waste of time. Its only purpose was to throw an LGBT relationship at the fandom to keep them quiet but it wasn’t even a good one. The episode wasted time on characters we didn’t care about or had got past caring about. It was unsatisfying.
Runners up:
Last Rites- It was an unsatisfying conclusion to the Underworld arc. Zeus was such a plot device, they killed off Robin unnecessarily and bringing Hook back but leaving Robin dead was salt in the wound.
3) What did you think of Hades and the Underworld?
I liked Hades and would rank him as one of the most entertaining and decent villains to date. I was sad to see him go and would’ve liked him to have joined the regular cast. His chemistry with Zelena was off the charts.
4) What was your favorite and least favorite moment?
Least favourite is easily CS making out at Robin’s funeral when the coffin was right there and not even in the ground (the implications of what happened after that scene ended are even worse). I thought it very inappropriate given the setting.
Runner up: Every scene involving Henry in the two part finale. He was such a brat.
Favourite moment: I guess the Zades bike ride. The chemistry between the two of them was electric and I was shipping it from that moment on. That’s how you write a ship.
5) We had a lot of old favorite (and least favorite) characters return this arc; which character did you most like seeing? Who do you wish we saw?
I guess Cruella was the character I most liked seeing because she’s always entertaining.
The character I wish we saw was Felix because we hardly know anything about him. I wished we could’ve seen him confront Pan about killing him.
6) Thing you’re most looking forward to in S6?
RumBelle, Hyde, Regina, WickedSisters.
7) Overall grade and final thoughts on S5B?
[/quote]B
Definitely one of the better arcs since 3A. I would actually rate it slightly higher than 3A because we could actually see what was going on at all times.

ParticipantI wonder if the “final battle” prophesised in the Pilot is going to be the battle between everyone’s good and evil side?
This was a decent episode and I’m actually looking forward to next season.Liked
Hyde- it’ll be interesting to see where that goes.
RumBelle is still sailing- Rumple is still focussed on saving Belle. He’s the only one that cares about her because everyone else doesn’t seem to give a damn now that they got the people who “matter” back.
Anyone else noticed that when Snow was talking about being at the birth of the EQ and now wanting to see Regina “end
her”, Ginny’s voice changed to “Dark Snow”?Mixed
Separating the dark side from the light- Whilst it’s good to have the evil Queen back, I think Rumple’s right in that the dark side is a part of you and trying to ignore it isn’t going to end well. I think season 6 might be about finding a balance between the two rather than going one way or the other.
Dislike
Henry making the year in New York about CS- Henry talking about how it was just him and Emma then Henry made a wish and Hook came two days later. Did Henry completely forget about Walshe? The guy who dated Emma and was going to ask her to marry him?
Henry- Henry is annoying. He gets ideas above his station and he makes the situation worse because he thinks he knows best. I’m glad he felt guilty about his actions because he should.
Henry and Violet- It is so boring. Henry’s too young to be involved in a deep and meaningful relationship. Yes he’d show an interest in girls (or they could’ve done something unexpected and made Henry gay) but the way the scenes were written between Henry and Violet, it’s not how teenagers would act. I hope Henry gets his heartbroken. How did Violet know her dad didn’t return to Camelot, she was out of town when everybody else returned to the EF then when she did get back to Storybrooke, she hadn’t even spoken to her father?
