Apparently Emilie won’t be singing in the musical episode.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantLike she’s trying to cover something up and failing–much like what her clothing would signal to the audience if this were a domestic abuse story.
Here’s a question for discussion. If the show had taken the domestic abuse story route with CS, do you think that would’ve been an empowering storyline eg showing that even a “strong” woman can be a victim of domestic abuse, or do you think it would’ve made Emma look “weak” because she was previously a “strong” character but is now “allowing” herself to be dominated by Hook?
(When I say “allowing herself to be dominated”, I don’t mean and am not implying that real domestic abuse victims “allow” themselves to be dominated. What I mean is that from an audience point of view and Emma being a fictional character, it’s easy to go “Why doesn’t she just punch him in the face? Why is she giving in to him and letting him do that?” Just wanted to clarify that point so that people don’t take it the wrong way.)

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantHappy belated birthday RG!
One thing I noticed about this episode this week is that, despite Emma’s still dubious costume choices, Emma actually seemed more like Emma than she has in a long time. Whether that’s just because JMo’s make up has been done differently or Emma just had a bit of spark about her personality this episode, Emma just seemed to have a bit of colour in her cheeks and looked healthier than she has in previous episode. Her hair styles were normal Emma.
Her choice of clothing is still not Emma. Emma has never been a button-up girl, I think if they just gave her some more open neck tops then that would help her not look like she’s had a complete personality transplant.

Keeper of FelixApril 27, 2017 at 1:05 pm in reply to: 6×18–Where Bluebirds Fly: Favorite/Least Favorite Moments #337352PriceofMagicParticipantA relatively decent episode.
I thought Black Fairy was going to cause the ground to shake when she pressed whatever it was after turning the crystals black. Would’ve been a nice setup for the joke “I thought the earth wasn’t supposed to move until the honeymoon” for CS. Unfortunately that didn’t happen on either front so slightly disappointed at that.
The flashbacks were okay, it wouldn’t have harmed the episode not to have them and that screen time could’ve been better spent for present day action but it is what it is.
I like the little domestic moments between the characters such as the Charmings looking at wedding venues, the CS pancake scene (though I do think the kissing went on a bit long). The show has been missing those kind of everyday elements which breathe life into the characters, instead focusing on plot and McGuffins galore.
The Black Fairy continues to impress. I think Belle might be the one to defeat her rather than Emma because of the thematic symbolism eg Belle going all protective mother over Gideon and the two “mothers” going head to head over their son.
Speaking of Belle, besides being criminally underused this season, it does kind of feel Belle cares a little more about Gideon being good rather than Gideon himself. All her scenes this half season seem to contain the refrain “he’s not evil”.
Also I think they’ve just signposted RumBelle’s fate at the end of the season. Belle’s line (paraphrasing because I can’t remember the exact line) “We missed out on so much with Gideon, that’s time we’ll never get back” suggests to me that they are going to de-age Gideon at this end of the arc and RumBelle will get their happily ever after raising him. At least they should get a HEA since the show couldn’t be bothered to show any of their good times on-screen so naturally their HEA will be off-screen.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantJust watched “Where bluebirds fly” and was pleasantly surprised by CS this episode.
OUAT has been missing the little domestic moments between the characters for a long while so it was nice to see the little wedding planning with the Charmings as they try and find a suitable wedding venue, even the pancake scene was a nice little show of domesticity.
Lol at Hook having to take a cold shower after Snow walked in and put a halt to proceedings, we all know why. For some reason I’m just imagining Hook singing “A pirate’s life” from Disney’s Peter Pan in the shower. It was clear that Emma and Hook had had sex pre-pancakes, I even think Emma may have been wearing something of Hook’s. I do think they could’ve trimmed down on the kissing which seemed to go on slightly too long, especially in a show where every minute counts, so every second is valuable.
Emma finally seemed to act like old Emma personality wise. The costuming choices are still a little dubious, but hair wise, it was vintage Emma. Also, I’m not if JMo’s make up was done differently this episode or whether Emma just had a bit of spark around her personality, but the character just seemed to have a bit of colour in her cheeks and actually looked healthy in comparison to previous episodes.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantThe Spike to her Buffy….. Okay, I’m all out of examples, but you get my point.
I think this is an unfair comparison to make.
1. Spike and Buffy are much better written characters.
2. CS hasn’t reached the levels of toxicness that Spuffy did. Spuffy were physically violent on both sides. The writers could’ve stopped it at a redeemable place- Buffy calls time on the relationship because she realises how unhealthy it is for her AND for Spike- and the two try to remain civil and respectful towards each other. Unfortunately the writers didn’t stop it there then they ignored the consequences of the attempted rape.
3. Spike didn’t suddenly redeem himself in order to get into Buffy’s pants. He was a villain in season 2 where killing Buffy was more a side quest and his main focus was finding a cure for Drusilla. Season 3 was just a drunken revisit. Season 4 was when Spike and Buffy became frenemies. Season 5 was when Spike took an interest in Buffy and started to show that he could do good for non-selfish reasons after demonstrating obsessive behaviour. Also Buffy called Spike on his wrong doing rather than just ignoring it.
4. In a scene where Spike feels entitled to praise for “not feeding on bleeding disaster victims”, both Buffy and Spike have valid points of view. Buffy is right for calling him out that he shouldn’t expect praise for a basic act of decency, however, Spike actually does deserve a little credit since he IS a vampire and all that blood would be making his senses go wild.
There is tons of other reasons as well that I’ve not got time to list.
Do I think A&E were trying to go for a Spike/Buffy dynamic minus the toxicness? Yes, cause this show seems to be stealing more and more things from Buffy. Do I think they were successful? No. A similarity that CS and Spuffy do have though is where the relationship storyline became the character’s main focus. This is certainly true of Hook and Spike (in the later seasons). With Emma and Buffy, Spuffy became a heavy focus for Buffy, however she did have other things going on. Emma just focusses on Hook.
It’s been said before, Emma’s tropes have changed. Emma was THE KNIGHT whereas now she’s the maiden in the tower waiting for her pirate to rescue her. Buffy remained THE CHOSEN ONE despite Spuffy happening. The final scene between Spuffy was where Buffy told Spike she loved him because he was about to die and he turned around and said “No you don’t but thanks for saying it”. That was a powerful moment between the two.
You don’t see me going on the Emma/Neal thread and saying that it’s statutory rape.
Actually, you did do that…..
You were all up in the SF thread calling us bitter this and hateful that, and I was the one who posted the link to the CS thread for you to come to, which you never did at the time.
Lol how Michael just chooses to ignore this point and change the subject because he/she knows he’s/she’s not got a valid comeback.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantAgreed. Emma looks like Emma in the season 2 promo pics, not so much in the season 3 promo pics.

Keeper of FelixApril 25, 2017 at 7:04 pm in reply to: EW April 25th: Once Upon a Time – Potential vignette episode #337203PriceofMagicParticipantThey could also just have a scene where the characters TELL us what’s happening with the secondary ones eg
Snow: I saw Kathryn at Neal’s nursery today, her little boy looks just like Frederick.
Right there, the audience has been informed that 1. Kathryn is alive and well, and 2. She and Frederick have had a son together.

Keeper of FelixPriceofMagicParticipantIn my opinion, killing off Neal was actually bad for CS because Emma never actually CHOSE Hook over Neal, he just won by default. Also if a “love rival” has to be killed off in order for the guy to get the girl, then that doesn’t really say “true love”.
I’ve said before about Hook and Emma being on adjustable platforms, never being equal beyond Tallahassee, she was too good for him, now he’s too good for her etc. I think the main problem with CS is that it came about when the show took a nose dive in quality so it looked like a cause and effect kind of thing eg CS happened which caused the quality decline, rather than CS happened to coincide with the show’s decline in quality.
Hook was an absolute pig in the first couple of seasons and there was absolutely no reason why Emma, the strong independent protagonist would go for him, yet she did because the writers were too lazy or incapable of writing a proper redemption arc for Hook. The fact that Hook’s misdeeds would often get overlooked or instantly forgiven by the “heroes” whilst the likes of Regina and Rumple had to earn their redemption can also make fans resentful because Regina and Rumple go through emotional pain whilst Hook get a free-pass.
Hook is actually a decent guy now but Emma is just awful. Hook gets blamed for a lot of things but in actual fact Hook is not the problem, it’s the “heroes” or more specifically Emma. When you compare season 1 and season 6 Emma they are like two different characters. We’re not talking about “walls” but personality. Emma’s writing took a jump off a cliff and because her storyline has become so Hook focussed, he gets the blame even though he’s not the problem, it’s Emma who’s the problem. To be honest, I’m half expecting Emma to go all Misery on Hook at some point in time just so that he can’t leave her.
Also it’s the fact that simple “redemption” things took ages to occur eg it took 4 seasons which is 4 YEARS real-time for Hook to genuinely apologise to Belle. The show has a problem in that it prefers to TELL rather than SHOW when it should be the other way round. For example, the show kept trying to TELL us that Hook was redeemed/changed rather than SHOWING it and what they did show was contradicting what they were telling us. I have no sympathy for Hook in 4A, it’s his own fault that he tried to mess with Rumple and got his fingers burned.
There is a lot more positive reaction towards Hook in season 6 (I like him and I used to absolutely hate him in seasons 2-5) because they are SHOWING us Hook has changed. They SHOWED him genuinely apologising to Belle and they SHOWED him stepping up to help Belle when Emma didn’t give a toss.
In conclusion, Hook is so divisive (he’s probably the marmite character of OUAT)because:
1. His redemption arc was poorly written and apparently completely happened off-screen.
2. He makes the “heroes” look bad with their blasé attitude to any wrong doing he does.
3. Emma’s character took a complete nose dive which happened to coincide with CS.
4. There was no real resolution to the CaptainSwanfire love triangle plot, it was literally killed off in 3B.
5. Other characters get pushed aside in favour of Hook which builds resentment amongst fans of those characters.
6. His attitude in season 2 and 3 was not love interest material which is what the show was trying to push for.
7. He comes out with comments about returning Milah to Rumple “Soiled” which is a massive NO if the character is meant to be the lead protagonist’s love interest. There are tons of reasons why people don’t like Hook and/or CS. In my opinion, CS is the issue, Hook is just its unfortunate casualty.
