Or she could work together with Rumple and the rest of the “heroes” to find away to make the contract invalid.

What were the four symbols again? Perhaps it’s got to be people related.

Wisdom is something that is exclusive to people. A person can be called wise, an animal isn’t really wise but people attribute this trait to them eg a wise owl, three wise monkeys. Wisdom is basically the ability to see the full picture whilst fools rush in. Little fish see a bright light in the darkness and rush towards it, regardless of the fact it’s attached to an angler fish that wants to eat them. A wise person will see the light and go “I don’t know what that is so I’m not going to get too close in case it’s a trap and something wants to eat me”

Innocence- A baby is essentially the most innocent person you can find before life and circumstances begin to corrupt them.

Redeemed heart or whatever it was- Again people related. Animals have no concept of right and wrong just that they need to eat whereas people do.

    Can’t remember the other one.

    Interesting points on both sides.

I think both Belle and Rumple are right in what they both say, however I think the conflict between them is in how they view what the darkness/being the dark one actually is.

Rumple sees it as part of his identity. He’s been the dark one for so long that it’s literally become a part of him. That is who he is. I don’t think he’s necessarily telling Belle that she has to accept he’s going to go out murdering the peasants, but he’s essentially saying “I am the dark one and you need to accept that if this relationship is going to work”. The only thing I can liken it to as such is being part of a religion. Eg Rumple has been part of a religion for many years before he met Belle who is an atheist. Rumple loves Belle and Belle loves him but she wants him to give up his religion for her. Rumple has tried but it never felt right because he felt he was trying to deny a part of himself. He knew Belle would be upset that he hadn’t given up his religion for her so he lied to her because he wanted her to be happy whilst he indulged in his religion on the sly. Belle found out about the lies then got upset.

Belle see it as an addiction that has taken hold of Rumple. She wants him to get better so she is constantly encouraging him to fight his addiction. When she finds out Rumple is still “using”, she gets upset that Rumple has lied to her. She gives him ultimatums “tough love” to try and force him to give up because his addiction isn’t good for him. Belle loves him but she can’t condone him being an addict.

So what if it is Ruby & Dorothy who is the LGBT couple, and Dorothy being killed and sent to the Underworld would make sense for Ruby to be going there to get her back.

Which is kind of the same plot they’ve got going with CS.

I think it plays into the (Machiavellian?) saying “Is it better to be loved or feared?”

IMO, from a leadership point of view it’s better to be loved. If the people love you, they’ll fight and die for you. If they fear you, they will turn on you as soon as a better offer comes along.

Definitely one of the top episodes of season 5 so far.

    Liked

Zelena and Hades- As a couple and separately. I’m shipping Halena. I loved the bike ride and it’s ironic that Hades, lord of the underworld, shows Zelena, the wicked witch, more respect than Hook show Emma. When Zelena told Hades to back off, he backed off. He didn’t continue to harass her until she eventually gave in. He stated his case then has given her space to make her decision. Also Zelena was so on point with her criticisms of Robin and his attitude towards his daughter.

The RumBelle library scene- Rumple told Belle the truth about the baby deal AND being the dark one again. So kudos to him. It’ll be interesting to see how things develop between them since Rumple gave an accept me as I am speech or leave. I’m kind of hoping we get a dark Belle in the vein of Lacey and then Rumple realises that the power is corrupting Belle and he choses her over the power because he doesn’t want to see the woman he loves destroyed by his darkness.

Hook having a minimal role- The show is better when Hook is not being pushed centre stage.

    Mixed

Dorothy- I don’t like her but I don’t dislike her. She’s rather bland. I hope we don’t have to put up with her too much longer.

Henry as the author- I thought his comments about how everyone’s an author, how he’s doing his best etc etc was actually very meta and was aimed at the audience as well as the other characters.

The reveal that the babies were plonked in the nuns’ nursery- It just makes Snowing and Robin’s decision to run off on the save Hook mission with no thought for their children even worse. The babies weren’t even with people they knew. Belle only visited, she wasn’t actually looking after the babies, and she brought bottles with her? Considering the babies were being housed at the nunnery, shouldn’t the nuns have bottles on hand, instead of waiting for Belle to travel there?

    Disliked

Hook- He’s whining at Henry because Henry is unable to work as fast as he likes and both Henry’s mother’s say nothing? At least they complimented Henry on his penmanship but still they should have stuck up for Henry against Hook.

Maybe Henry is really in an asylum.

    Quote

That would be very Buffyesque for them to do and they do seem to like taking ideas from Buffy.

Henry would have to decide which world was real, Storybrooke or that he’s actually a disturbed kid in an asylum.

Is anyone else bothered by Fictional Kansas? How many fictional lands are there? When it was lands like Wonderland, Oz, and Neverland, it made a lot of sense (those are actual fictional worlds) but Kansas, London–Victorian and Jazz Age–and it’s getting extremely silly.

    Quote

I’m bothered as well. Adding more pointless worlds ruin the worldbuilding. I never understand why some characters need to have a world of their own.

    Quote

Yes, and not to mention that Rumple was in search of a certain pair of slippers that coule transport him to A Land Without Magic. Back in “The Doctor”, Rumple hired Jefferson to travel to Oz to get him the slippers; however, the slippers had vanished before Jefferson could acquire them from Zelena on Rumple’s behalf. The implicaiton is that Dorothy had used the slippers to return home to REAL Kansas.

    Quote

Don’t forget we had the Darlings as well who were from “real” London. It would’ve been easier just to make everything a fictional world.
