So far, it appears Hook lures women in and makes them feel special then brings them aboard his ship to provide “companionship” for his crew.

Keeper of FelixI think the mysterious man is Henry’s father but also Bae’s son. He looks to be around a similar age as Emma. Bae went through the portal when he was 14. Even if he came through to our world around the time when Emma came through, he would still have aged 28 years and been 14 years older than Emma. Would he have just been stuck in a void until he came through our side? He went through the portal hundreds of years before Regina cast the curse.
With the mysterious man being Bae’s son, there can be closure on what happened to Bae after he went through the portal and the mysterious man would know about fairytale land from Bae who may have told him about it in the form of stories.

Keeper of FelixI think Emma was the main character in season 1 because she was the saviour and the point of season 1 was for her to break the curse. The audience needed to see her go on the journey of non-believer to believer. She was also a way to introduce the storybrooke counterparts to the audience.
Now that the audience knows who the characters are and have grown attached to them, Emma is no longer required as an introduction device. In season 1, Mr Gold was introduced through Emma then Moe French was introduced through Mr Gold.
