ParticipantI don’t know, I just get the feeling that the peasantry weren’t as into arranged marriages as the royals were. A theory that just popped into my head is what if Rumple knew his wife was having an affair but his self esteem was so low that he pretended that he didn’t know. When his wife gets pregnant, she makes out the child is Rumple’s and he just goes along with it.

ParticipantWould marriages have been arranged at that level? We know that the royals did it because it was convenient for the kingdoms (if Charming had wed Abigail, Midas would have given George gold for the kingdom) but Rumple didn’t look exactly well off.

The reason why i think Regina is more redeemable then Rumpel is because Regina has actually lost something. Daniel was murdered in front of her. And she was abused as a child. Everything Rumpel had happen, he did to himself. And he continues to do it to himself, by letting Bae go and throwing Belle out.
I disagree. Regina chose the path of revenge despite the fact that her father and Maleficent tried to talk her out of it. When will Regina decide that Snow has paid enough? At least with Rumple once he finds Bae he can start making up for his misdeeds. With Regina, when will she stop? She’s killed Snow’s father, outlawed Snow, tried to have Snow killed, put Snow under the sleeping curse, was going to kill Charming until the huntsman rescued him, cast the dark curse to destroy Snow’s happiness, tried to frame Mary Margaret for murder, tried to keep Snow and Charming apart in Storybrooke, Regina’s done so many things to Snow and yet it’s never enough to satisfy her need for revenge.
Also i don’t think that they are going to be able to use magic in Storybrooke. At least not the way they used magic in fairytale land.
In an interview, they said that magic was going to be like “currency”. What that means, I have no idea.

There’s also a scene where Belle looks at Rumpel lovingly, and Rumpel responds, “No has ever looked at me like that. Not even my wife.” So sweet. π
That says so much about the state of Rumple’s first marriage, his wife never looked at him with love. Which begs the question why they married in the first place? Perhaps his wife was already pregnant with Bae as a result of fooling around with some other guy so she married Rumple so that she wouldn’t be an unwed single mother. Maybe she didn’t even want Bae in the first place but because abortions weren’t available she had no choice. She was then stuck at home looking after Bae whilst Rumple was away at the ogre wars. When Rumple returned and was declared a coward, the wife just took off and left Rumple to look after Bae because she didn’t want either of them in the first place.

That’s a wonderful idea that I hadn’t thought of. While I want Belle to continue to be a strong and compassionate character, I just feel that it would just be unlikely all things considered even on this show, if she suddenly had the idea on her own to run the library.
Maybe Rumple gives her the library. I have a feeling that Skin Deep is only half of the beauty and the beast story. In the Disney version, Belle gives up her freedom to live with the beast, the beast throws her out, the beast protects Belle, they get along better afterwards and begin falling in love with one another, the beast gives Belle the library, Belle’s declaration of love turns the beast back into a prince. I know that’s a very general summary of the Disney verion and OUaT is doing their own version of the story and changing details but there are very similar parallels between the two.
However, I admit when pictures first came out, first I was happy because “The Crocodile” looks to be an action-filled episode featuring Rumple, which is always a bonus for me, but then I became somewhat grumpy reading some of the reactions to it, not here but elsewhere. I felt that in some places, again not here, that Rumple was being given too much of a free pass for his past actions. I love the character and Robert Carlyle’s portrayal of him, and maybe at the end of the series if he’s really atoned for the evil deeds he’s committed, I’ll feel he has earned the right to his happy ending, but right now I’m just waiting for everyone in Storybrooke to find out who was really behind the Curse, and for Bae to find out that not only did his father create the Curse but he brought magic here to Earth.
(Of course, I can be quite contrary, so when I feel the balance has tipped too much into Rumple-hate at least in comparison to Regina’s actions, I want to defend him, at least in comparison to Regina; but they’re both evil right now and yet both have equal chances to be redeemed even though I might prefer one over another right now. π )
I think people can sympathise with Rumple more because all of his actions have stemmed from the basic parental instinct to protect his child. He became the dark one in order to protect Baelfire and it’s not exactly clear whether the dark one curse is just power or a separate entity in itself that latches on to hosts like a parasite, influencing its host’s behaviour and actions. Rumple started out wanting to use the power for good but got corrupted in the process. What if the dark one curse is like a little voice in Rumple’s head. He sees the soldiers about to take Baelfire, the dark one curse tells him he needs to kill them all to protect Bae. He sees Bae injured by the cart, the dark one curse tells him the man with the cart did it deliberately and needs to be punished. Belle’s love is a threat to the dark one curse, the dark one curse tells Rumple that Belle doesn’t really love him and it’s all a trick.
If true love breaks any curse then it makes sense that Rumple’s feelings of love for Bae and Belle are able to overide the dark one curse’s evil. Blue Fairy said to Bae ” You are the part of him that keeps him human. That little light inside of him that still glows. Itβs his love for you.”
If Rumple were to lose both Bae and Belle then his humanity would be lost as well hence why he seems more evil in the first part of the season set after Skin Deep and The Return. He has no one to love. As far as he was concerned, Belle was dead but there was still a chance to find Baelfire which is why he was focussed on creating the curse. In Storybrooke, where the dark one curse is inactive, he’s still driven by the desire to find Bae. What if the dark one curse was laying dormant and when Rumple woke up, the dark one curse woke up as well?
I’m not excusing Rumple’s actions but he may not be as aware of them as say Regina is of hers. Regina deliberately sets out to hurt Snow White and Emma as much as possible, Rumple just has his attention on a set goal and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process.

Are we sure he is reoccurring?
Yes, the role is “potentially reoccurring,” according to TV line.
To me, potentially reoccurring sounds like he’ll appear heavily in this episode, maybe get some sort of comeuppance and then perhaps reappear later on in the season. Similar to how Jefferson was a main character in Hat Trick then had minimal roles in the last two episodes of the season.

ParticipantHenry was in therapy before he got the book which suggests there were already problems between him and Regina. The book made the situation worse between them because Henry then had the proof that everyone was a fairytale character.
