I think Belle did develop feelings for Rumple first and she certainly wasn’t complaining when Rumple caught her when she fell but I wouldn’t say she fell in love with him straightaway. She liked him enough to admit to Regina that “I might love him, I mean I could…” but she was still planning on leaving him perhaps thinking Rumple didn’t return her feelings. It was Regina who convinced her that Rumple might love her in return that made her decide to go back to him.
Belle has a very “nurturing” nature, I think. And she’s very open about her feelings. I think she’s also the kind of person who likes to touch to express her feelings. We saw it with her father and Gaston, she touches them reasuringly. And I imagine she’d go around and randomly touching Rumple’s arm or shoulder, just to express her affection or gratitude any given day in his castle. I think that amazed him.
She was only very touchy feely with Rumple after speaking to Regina. They only physical contact Rumple and Belle had before then was when he caught her when she fell and then they were awkward afterwards. Between them I think it was very much, she liked him, he liked her but neither wanted to make the first move incase they’d misread the signals. After returning to Rumple, Belle made the first move.
You know, come to think of it, every time I see that scene when Belle tells Mr. Gold she loves him, and then she throws herself to hug him, I wonder when was the last time someone hugged him like that. When was the last time he had that kind of closeness with someone, that physical contact… those few seconds must’ve been heaven to him. There was Belle, surprising him as always. 🙂
Mr Gold actually hugged her first back in the shop when she didn’t have her memory and she was confused by it all. When they were walking through the woods Gold was way in front of Belle and didn’t even look at her until she said his name. Perhaps he was embarassed that he went for the hug and Belle was all “who are you?” so he backed off from her both physically and emotionally to protect himself. When she said “I remember” he didn’t make any move towards her until she said “I love you”. After he admits he loves her and they hug, he’s the more touchy feely one in contrast to Skin Deep. He touches her face and puts his arm around her when they’re stood at the well.

Keeper of FelixRumple must at least be mentioned in the book because it had the picture of when Charming and Snow went into the mine to talk to Rumple. It could be Rumple is only mentioned by name such as so and so made a deal with Rumplestilskin and there are no pictures of him so Henry didn’t recognise him in Storybrooke.
