True, they did a pretty quick cut scene of him crying over her, but who knows, perhaps he was actually looking for her before Regina broke the news, and it was enough to make him believe with him not being able to find her.
Like everyone else, I’m pretty anxious to see what happens between Rumpel/Belle/Regina/Moe.
There are some factors on Regina’s side that would make Rumple believing her more plausible.
1. We don’t know how much time had passed since Belle left the castle to Regina telling Rumple she died. If several weeks had passed and Rumple didn’t look for Belle within those weeks, news of her death would obviously make him feel guilty that he didn’t try and go after her sooner.
2. Regina mentioned Gaston had gone missing. Obviously Rumple knew this because he turned Gaston into the rose but this put an element of truth into Regina’s story therefore making it harder to tell whether it was a lie or not.
3. Rumple didn’t quite believe Regina immediately because he did accuse her of lying. However he was clutching at straws at that point. Regina’s response of “Am I?” neither confirmed nor denied whether or not she was lying but probably tipped Rumple into believing her. Add in the fact that her story had an element of truth (Gaston missing) and the time factor (enough time must have past for Belle to have realistically made it home and be tortured enough to commit suicide) then Rumple had no choice but to believe her.

Rumple’s going to have some stiff competition if he ends up against Spike from Buffy.

Keeper of FelixI can just see Rumple and Maurice clashing repeatedly over Belle and she’s going to feel torn between the two. When Belle finds out Rumple was behind the curse and that he beat up her father, Rumple’s going to have some serious explaining to do.

Would there lives have been better though? True, the dark curse may never have happened (though I still believe the Blue Fairy is partly to blame for that whole scenario) however, lets think of the people that Rumple has helped even if some of them didn’t realise it.
Cinderella- Would of been a maid for her step family. Her fairy godmother may have sent her to the ball but it could have ended like the Disney version and she may have had to return to her life of servitude. She may never have had the glass slippers as that was Rumple’s “memorable detail” and that was how the prince found her because she left a glass slipper behind.
Belle’s father- Was losing the ogre war. Rumple’s assistance saved his town.
Belle- Would of been married to Gaston, a man she didn’t really love. Would never have got the chance to be brave. Rumple technically saved her from a loveless arranged marriage.
Charming- Would never have found Snow without Rumple’s help. Arguably may never have even met Snow if Rumple hadn’t collected him for George.
Snow- Rumple gave her the potion to forget Charming which at that point in time Snow wanted. Rumple never forced it down her throat.
Jiminy- Rumple gave Jiminy a way to escape his parents. He never forced him to use it.
Charming’s parents- Rumple saved their farm the first time in exchange for one of their sons which he then gave to George.
Charming’s twin brother- He grew up as a prince rather than a poor shepherd because of Rumple’s deal with his parents.
King George and his wife- Rumple gave them a son.

Keeper of FelixI had a dream where the events of Stable Boy played out slightly differently. Basically Regina and Daniel were about to runaway together, but they were in a mansion type house instead of the stable, when Daniel realized Regina didn’t really love him and that it would never work out between them and broke up with her. Regina said she did love him but Daniel was like “no you don’t”. Daniel then climbed out of the window onto the porch roof and left Regina crying.
